Qunari yes, elf- definitely not.

I love elves, but not these elves. I can't get past the huge heads on extremely underdeveloped bodies. These are not even extremely thin, which would have been totally fine. These are underdeveloped. These huge heads on bodies with neither the body bone structure or musculature to carry it around. Those poor necks! No, I couldn't be a DA2 elf. For me it has zero to do with the faces and everything to do with the missing logic of the bodies. I like that they *tried* to make them distinct, but I can't look at them for long without that nagging the fun out of it for me. that and they were supposed to be *better* looking than humans, lore wise... I tried to like them. Over and over again. But i just can't. Sorry. this is, I think, the only game where being an elf doesn't fit for me (I am usually an elf).

I understand it is a personal preference thing and I am happy for people who love the new elves though. (As I am sure the artists do as well!)

Dwarf I would. Qunari sure. Both are proportionate (though stocky in different ways, still balanced). I loved my DAO dwarf. She was adorable!

Elves can look beautiful to humans and at the same time look like a different race. They took a shortcut in DAO and just made them like small humans with pointed ears, but the direction in DA2 doesn't even follow the elf lore (not that many things did in DA2).

HEY ART DESIGNERS! How hard would it be to just google ELF images and get some decent idea's. Seriously.

On the one hand I think making stuff look more distinct is a good idea, but you can't really do this after you've established what the elves look like. It would be like Mass Effect 2 coming out and Turians suddenly sport orange fur and antennae.

If they were so adamant that they wanted to make more races, why didn't they just do that, rather than doing this rather silly 'upgrade'?

I'm curious if they focus tested these designs. If so, the focus groups must have been anime enthusiasts or WoW players. Or they were just in it for the free pizza.

I'm guessing it's a bit of both. In my opinion, I just don't see how they thought, "These elves are BEAUTIFUL! Yes, this follows lore and are just... awesome." I think Dragon Age 2 wouldn't have been so bad if the elves weren't so hideous. It seems the more they create beings, the worse they get (gorilla genlocks). At least the female dwarves made it out alive... or at least I think they're alive

Some DA2 elves were hideous, just like most of the Origins elves were hideous too (the alienage and dalish camp were not exactly full of beauty). The good looking DA2 elves are quite pretty, and I actually quite like the redesign. But keep on b!tching about it, I mean, what would this forum be without that. 

As for the OP's question, I rarely play anything other than human but I wouldn't mind playing a redesigned DA2 elf.

Good point. If the elves are supposed to be considered to be attractive by humans, I'm not really sure where the idea of making them look like something from a H.P Lovecraft story came from.

But then, the Darkspawn got changed into the putties from Power Rangers and the Qunari got turned into clones of Hellboy, so I guess logic was never a factor in their design. I'm just glad the dwarves weren't changed into dinosaurs or something.

I kept wanting to romance Fenris because I liked his personality and his voice was sexy, but everytime I went to speak to him...he looks like a pre-pubescent human/alien hybrid. The new design is terrible.

I'm not sure that people complaining about the design somehow invalidates their desire to play as an elf, however. It just makes it slightly less disappointing that we can't, while making the franchile as a whole more disappointing. Its not our fault they look disturbing now.

This thread highlights one of the points I will be making in my upcoming review thread. Game design companies very often don't even understand the variables of what made their title "Game of the Year".

One of the first things I noticed when I began DA2 was that the facial beauty was absent. The facial structure of the races within previous title was much more beautiful in my opinion. If you take a look at the psychology of immersion in video games... just as in real life... beauty affects opinions and emotions.

I don't really know about the males... but some of the female characters in DA:O were very beautiful to look at. I cannot say the same for many of the faces in DA2.

Yes, I would like to play as an ugly elf. I would prefer it to non-ugly elf, but ugly elf character would be better than no option to roll an elf.

Or you know, people can like it without loving anime or WoW. I like the new design and I don't care for either anime or WoW.
