UPDATE (Nov 2, 2012):

We've replaced the 1.05 file linked to below with a new version of the BETA. This updated 1.05 BETA resolves the excessive load times and slow downs that some users with DirectX10-era video cards were reporting with the previous file.

As a result, we're locking this thread and directing further discussion here.

Note that we continue to encounter one remaining authentication issue regarding the Blood Dragon Armor not appearing under the current 1.05 BETA. We're working on it and hope to release an official 1.05 patch once that issue has been successfully addressed.

Thanks,
Rob

-------------------------

Hi everyone,

PC Patch 1.05 has been in a private beta and we're now rolling it out to the general public as a PUBLIC BETA. Please click here to download the Patch 1.05 BETA install file.

Q: What issues does Patch 1.05 fix?
A: Patch 1.05 is entirely focused on addressing two key issues:
  • We restructured our DLC authentication process. If you were previously unable to authenticate your DLC, that should now be fixed with 1.05.
  • The Ultimate Edition installer for EA Download Manager (EADM) version of the game was placing the CD-Key in the wrong location in the Windows registry, causing a variety of issues with online functionality, tracking of achievements, and integration with the social site. The Patch 1.05 installer now copies that CD-Key into the correct location. You can confirm that this is fixed by looking at your Product Key entry in the Games tab of the Configuration Utility (available from the launcher). If your Dragon Age Origins CD-Key is no longer blank, it's been fixed.
Q: Why is Patch 1.05 a BETA? What are the risks?
A: All of our private beta testers confirmed that the two fixes listed above are now working as intended. However, some members reported a sudden increase in area loading times with the patch. In an effort to gather more data about this issue, we've decided to release 1.05 as a public beta. Based on the experiences of our private beta testers, WE EXPECT THAT SOME USERS MAY ENCOUNTER INCREASED AREA LOADING TIMES WITH 1.05.

Q: What do I do if I encounter increased loading times after installing the 1.05 BETA?
A: If you simply want to go back to how things were, you can roll back to Patch 1.04 at any time, returning your game to its previous state. That said, we'd really appreciate your help in tracking down the source of this issue. Please post to this Long Load Times thread and provide us with the requested information so we can better assess and understand the issue.

Q: Can Steam users apply the 1.05 BETA patch?
A: The Steam service unfortunately doesn't support BETA patches. However, all PC/Mac users who have registered their game automatically receive free access to the full-game download via EA's Origin service. If they wish, users who have purchased the game through Steam can uninstall their Steam version and replace it with their Origin version, thereby gaining access to the 1.05 BETA patch. Once the patch is no longer in BETA and sees an official release, Steam users will be able to access it via Steam's normal patching process.

Thanks,
Rob

UPDATE: I'm unlocking this thread (not sure why I locked it in the first place - sorry about that!) Please feel free to discuss the beta patch here as you see fit.

A quick note for Steam users... if you decide to uninstall your Steam version, you may want to reboot your PC before installing the EADM/Origin version.

Kudos for the info - I had bought the ultimate edition some time ago via steam - I had a nightmare with DLC content.

I'm currently downloading it via Origin and will give this patch a go, I'll be sure to update the said thread above should I have problems with loading etc.

Just want to add along with increased loading times, crashes have been reported more frequent. My suggestion would be to use your F5 key for quick saves before any game turning points or just for paranoid gamers. Save often, so when it does crash you don't have to go through a whole lot of trouble. That said I personally have seen or heard it crash most during major plot events, don't know why just does. *Spoiler alert* The times it has crashed for me have been during the archdemon battle, confronting Arl Howe and battling him, and random but very rare crashes that occur sporadically during gameplay.

With that stated this patch makes this game playable for anyone who wants to use DLC or is having problems with DAUpdaterSvc. The only cons I see is crashes are more frequent and loading times increase after extended gameplay, but I rather have 2 headaches then 1 headache that causes the game to be unplayable.

Thanks to the BioWare community that helped make the patch possible and those that helped me get to playing DA : )

Exactly where has this been reported?

I've played with 1.05 for several hours at a time, and other than the load/transition time increase, I haven't had one glitch.

I would note, of course, that anyone testing the patch with third-party mods or fixes installed may see different results.

Brilliant. So, having just spent my money on DA:UE, I now have to wait until this patch is ready before I can play my game - else I've got to download about 15gigs of data all over again. Is there any idea when this patch will be ready?

Only in the games industry would people be allowed to sell a product that doesn't work, then make paying customers wait to use it.

Or you could just download the beta and play (or just play, unless you have DLC authentication issues).

I heavily suspect that the loading problem wasn't introduced in 1.05 (I see behavior that fits the description all the time in 1.04), and I heavily suspect they're not going to do anything to fix it (once they're satisfied that they didn't break it, they'll release the patch).

@Stumpy: There is a host of ways to manually fix DLC authorization issues listed in the Solutions Round Up thread pinned to the top of the forum if you don't want to wait or re-download.

@devSin: While I understand frustration with various bugs and DLC authorization issues, and there are many bugs that have been known since release and haven't been patched, this particular patch is still in beta specifically because of the long load times it is causing. The initial beta went to the beta group weeks ago and the devs spent several weeks trying to track down the issue before going to a public beta to try to get a larger data set to help in tracking the issue down. It may be that the patch is exacerbating an issue that already existed and will help the devs identify it (increasing load time length has been reported by some since the game came out). Whatever the case, they are trying to identify the problem.

Unfortunately, I have the Steam version, so cannot apply the patch - hence my annoyance. As I have the UE, I have DLC authentication issues. I've run the manual fixes littered throughout the forum, and managed to get one of them to work - I can't remember which it was, now. When I fixed it, I though "Ahh, that's it!" and was quite happy on my first play - indeed, I never visited these boards to even complain about it. However, when I went to log back in last night, I found that all my content was "unauthorized" again. I am simply not prepared to keep having to manually fix my game every single time I want to play it.

I paid for this game and its expansions in good faith, and all I want to be able to do is play it. I find it ridiculous that such a big-name title, from a major publisher, and recently offered up as a key part of the Steam sale, basically doesn't work.

Is this patch intended to fix more than UE related issues? There are plenty of other issues with Origins that could use patching, and it would be nice if 1.05 addressed at least some of them.

I would love to test this out considering I have Leliana's Song, Golems, Darkspawn Chronicles, Return to Ostagar and Witch Hunt, yet haven't been able to get any of them working with my Steam version of DA:O.

I downloaded EA's Origin thingamijig, but it's not displaying DA:O or Awakening despite them being registered. So...I'm kinda wondering how we re-download the game? Is there some trick to it I'm missing? DA2 and ME2 are there, so it's got my account details right.

IIRC, you need to enter the actual CD keys for DAO and Awakening into the EADM/Origins program.  You should have received those in an e-mail from Steam when you bought the games... you can also find them in both the Steam library and on the DAO launcher screen under Configure > Game

You might want to go back and read some of the other threads pinned to this forum...  lots of discussion on this already.  But to be brief:

1) No, the patch is not just for Ultimate Edition.  It is for both the original and UE editions of DA: Origins.

2) No, the patch only addresses DLC authorization issues.

3) Check out the "Community Fixit Project" thread for info on some other bug fixes for the games.

Sounds to me like you should be annoyed at Steam.  If you must complain to EA/Bioware, this is not the place to do it.  Go to support.ea.com, click on "contact us", log in, and select your method of communication.

We realize how frustrating this must be for Steam users. If the Steam infrastructure supported the notion of beta patches, we would definitely be making use of it right now but that's simply not a reality right now. In the meantime, we've done everything we can to make the patch available in its current form to all PC users who require it.

It's good to see that the patch has progressed into a public beta stage. I have never had DLC problems and I have the Steam version, so I feel no need to re-install DA:O through Origin to test it, but keep up the good work!

So does this latest patch address the issue regarding the delay in spell effects being applied when multiple enemies are on screen at once?

As it states in Rob's first post in this thread that describes the patch, 1.05 only addresses DLC authorization issues.

Finally, I can access my DLC! =)

I played Witch Hunt with no problems. Mainly the beta patch seems to cause progressively slow gameplay (main story without the DLC); and loading screens are taking much longer.

I am noticing that the game slows down after an hour or so of playing. In recent gameplay, it took up to 10 seconds to loot a corpse. Character creation is extremely slow- it takes longer than usual to customize your character (switching eye shapes, presets, hair styles, etc.).

Loading screens for the game start-up, area transitions, and saved games have been between 2 and 5 minutes, so far.

Success! Thanks again. FWIW, you answered in one fell swoop what an EA customer service rep hasn't been able to do in two.

Now I just have to download the game again. XD There goes my monthly limit...

Edit: And thanks to the patch my DLCs are finally working! I have noticed some increase in loading times (not only area transitions, but ending dialogue and trade), but it's not extreme yet (under 2 hours of play). Will post to the relevant thread when I do a bit more testing tomorrow.

I suppose it does say in the initial post what the patch does, though I was hoping that it did fix more than these two issues.

For those of us who don't play this on pc, we have to wait for Bioware to get in the mood to release patches, so mods don't help.

I don't believe they intend content patches. So there won't be any title updates for the consoles.

This patch exists only because they realized their authentication system wasn't bulletproof when it went down for over a week, leaving every PC player in the world unable to authenticate their content.

Hopefully they're more committed to support for DA2 (it looks like at least one more patch, and although it's probably futile, I'm still holding out hope for more).
