For those of you wanting to download the game through EA's Origin service, you can download the service here:
* http://www.origin.com/about
Within the Origin service, there's a little gear button at the top. In the resulting dropdown menu, select "Redeem Product Code" and you'll be prompted to enter the Product Key for your game. For Steam users, they will have emailed you this code as part of the purchase process. Enter the code and the game will be added to your collection, allowing you to download a copy at any time. Within the settings tab, I recommend ensuring that the "Keep Installers" button is checked so that you don't have to redownload it again later if you're going back and forth between Steam and Origin versions.

Unfortunately, I have the Steam version, so cannot apply the patch - hence my annoyance.
Sounds to me like you should be annoyed at Steam. If you must complain to EA/Bioware, this is not the place to do it. Go to support.ea.com, click on "contact us", log in, and select your method of communication.

No, believe me, my annoyance is at Bioware for releasing a product on Steam that doesn't work without a significant amount of manual fixing. The fact that Steam doesn't support Beta patches is neither here nor there; this isn't a minor patch to correct a couple of gameplay issues - it's a patch to actually allow people to play the content they've paid for.

I get why you're annoyed, and I'm not about to tell you that you've no right to be, but they are working to fix it as quickly as possible in a way that won't cause more frustration for players.Stumpy82 wrote...

It's frustrating, certainly. I pre-ordered DA2 and due to an authentication/DRM issue couldn't play it legitimately for about 2 months until a patch was released. The irony is that EA gave me the DA:O DLCs as compensation for said frustration...and of course I couldn't get them to work until this beta patch was released. XD
I didn't bother going back to EA to complain about it that time.
At least a patchis being worked on. With DA2 out I didn't think they'd bother with official DA:O fixes anymore, given the age of the content. Glad to be shown otherwise.

As it states in Rob's first post in this thread that describes the patch, 1.05 only addresses DLC authorization issues.
So this only deals with DLC issues......still no aceint elven boots huh? Or the other few dozen bugs that has carried over in this game for the past year and a half. So I guess a 15 year old hacker living in their parents basement can provide these fixes but a billion dollar gaming corporation can't seem to find the personnel, time, or talent to get it done after selling millions of copies of the game.

No, it can't. Or won't. Although it's been stated that the objective of the coming patch is the DLC issues, there may still be other issues addressed. Though nothing of that nature assured as yet, if at all.
I largely gave up complaining and simply voted with my wallet (e.g. as you may notice from the lack of further icons under my avatar) and didn't buy anything else from Awakenings onwards. Far less stress that way. Plus, it creates less mess on these forums for those people who wish to stick with it. I strongly recommend the same.
I still peek back here periodically to see if the game ever actaully gets to the state it should have been at release, since the age of a game rarely bothers me (I still play NWN2 and only last year stopped NWN1!).

I applaud Rob Bartel's efforts, though I still condemn Bioware as a whole for not dedicating appropriate resources to get this done earlier or faster. Updates are not coming as fast as I'd like to see, which unfortunately suggests that few resources are devoted the current effort. There has also still not been any word on future commitments on Bioware's part to fixing the existing bugs once the DLC authorization issues (aimed primarily at making the Ultimate Edition a more viable purchase, I suspect) are fixed. A more comprehensive roadmap would be appreciated, though this amount of disclosure is not the norm for Bioware.
One question I have for Rob Bartel is this: previous patches, such as 1.04, included content from earlier patch versions and did not necessarily require that other patches be applied prior to their installation. Will 1.05 include content from 1.04, or is it going to be considered more of a hotfix since it only addresses authorization issues?

In doing that I had the same authorization issue and none of the trouble shooting that fixed it for my initial steam install worked now that I'm using it on origin. This beta patch fixed the problem beautifully. I'm not seeing increased load times either.

Well, is anybody there with a problem weirder than mine? My redeem code from my DA Ultimate actually authorizes... Dragon Age 2 content! I'll give a try at patch 1.05 tonight
Registering pretty much any game on the Bioware site gives you access to some of the free DLC items for DA2. It's a marketing thing.

The only thing about increased loading times that I've found is that if I start playing the game and then head back to the main menu everything slows down. Not played for long sessions so can't be sure if loading times will increase over time of not, so will not say anything about that.
In short: thanks for this patch! Gave me a couple of complete new (for me) hours of one of my favorite games of all time!

I got this problem on Steam, locate DAOrigins.exe in (install directory)\\bin_ship\\ and for me it gave a comprehendable error. If it's a PhysX error, download the latest update of PhysX.Drakhiei wrote...
So, I downloaded Origin, downloaded DA: O Ultimate Edition on Origin, launched it to make sure everything was in working order, downloaded patch 1.05, tried to launch DA: O Ultimate Edition and it won't launch. Anyone else have this problem?
