my authorization probs were fixed when i manualy added da updater service in services.exe. i had to format windows and this time i found an installer for that service in the da folder since its from ea origin. those who havnt tried this shud do so. i think its really useful for the steam version too. if u dont know how to add it manually -iam happy to help. without this service running in services.exe da doesnt have the required connection to check your ea account for purchased DLCs. i dont know y this service is not installed during game installation. iam using dao ultimate

This method has been recommended in several threads, and a lot of people have been equally happy with the solution - for many people it seems to correct the problems regarding the DLC authorization issue.

However, I've also been trying to make it work, but I've reached a stumbling block. I downloaded "DA - Ultimate Edition" from Steam yesterday, and been reading for hours and hours about potential solutions. My Registered Game Content in my Bioware account shows that I've got all the DLC's, but in the game menu is says that it's enabled, but unauthorized (just to sum up my personal situation).

- My question is: When I go to the services.msc, in order to activate the 'Dragon Age - Updater Services', it doesn't show up on the list at all - not even the expanded list. Can you tell me how to add it to the list, as I'm at my wits end here, he he he?

When can I expect 1.5 to be out, so I can update via steam?
I'm growing impatient.

I appreciate this is frustrating for everyone who just wants to get on and play the game, but until the devs nail down exactly what's causing the slow down problem there's no way to tell how long it will take to fix, so no way to give a date for release.

-re-installed DA:O, patch 1.04, manually added all DLC - while much of the DLC is now accessible, The Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep still don't show up.
-- uninstalled yet again.

Edit: Found another post on another site about the firewall. I checked into the firewall rules and found out that 2 rules were added for DA that probably blocked out Warden's Keep and Stone Prisoner. Unusual in that my firewall always asks permission for outbound and to make a rule, so I'm guessing the DA:O window (I don't play full screen) overrides the Firewall permissions window and it timed out and blocked outbound traffic by default. After I changed the permission to allow traffic, eventually both DLC appeared in-game.

However, loading still gets progressively slower. I'm guessing that each time DA:O loads a new area (or ambush), it's stuck searching for an IP address that no longer exists or non-existing data when it attempts to authorize DLC.

Don Numa wrote that he would gladly assist anyone with this method, so I simply jusk asked politely. Am I not allowed to do so in here, and is he not permitted to respond and help? Or would you rather want us both to leave this thread, write private messages to each other in order to discuss where else he can share this information with other people who might need it (I assume I'm not the only one who would like to know)?

I've read through threads for many hours, and my problem is that I need to add the "DA - Content Updater" to my services-list. He clearly knows how to do it, and so I asked. I've seen the method being mentioned several times, including in your aforementioned threads, but I haven't seen any threads mentioning HOW to add it to the list, if it simply isn't there... I've only read that one should either add it to the list ("how", is my question), and if it's already there on the list, then one should just 'place it on auto'.

This might be the thread concerning the Patch 1.05, but since there aren't any official released patch yet, and no one knows when it'll come out, then we'd might as well talk about WHAT ELSE can be done for us poor Steam suckers... ;-) Others have already done so, without you just referring them to another thread or mentioning "posting guidelines".

However, I hope this didn't sound too much like an attack at you, because that certainly wasn't the purpose. You've done a fine job in this thread helping people out.

EDIT: HEY, I actually figured it out, he he he! :-D Been working on it last night, then I slept on it, and discovered how to do it this morning. If anyone else with Steam needs to get their problems fixed without the patch, then I'll also be glad to assist. :-)

OMG am I dreaming? Origins is getting a patch? I literally gave up after DA2 came out. I only came in here today to see if there was a mod to fix the crash to desktop issue :'D

@Noctivagus: I'm not certain how pointing you towards another place that has the instructions could be construed as some sort of personal attack, but it was certainly not meant as such. When people are in need of instructions that are already linked in a public location, I try to point people to them. As this is a help forum, assistance provided via PM only benefits one person, not everyone who stumbles this way looking for assistance. Please do help eachother.

Hmmmm *scratches head * not tech savy :(

Im wondering if I need this patch too - I have no understanding of what you are discussing except my game crashes a lot more than I believe it should. I thought maybe my system or graphics card could not handle things because it got a gazillion processors - but maybe that is more a problem than a good thing.

I have had an issue of a a mod (Zev's wedding not triggering) and I read here that it can have problems tracking achievements etc - although they turn up fine on my profile. I cannot think of anything else other than I need to do a runscript thingy but Im not sure what that would be for this mod.

Ill post my system details in case anybody can shed some light for me in regards to getting this patch -

Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X6 1035T Processor (6 CPUs), ~2.6GHz

Memory: 6144MB RAM

Hard Drive: 987 GB

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5770

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503)

I would download the patch anyway - but Im wary of putting stuff in and not knowing how to remove it if it stuffs things up - mods are easy to remove.

Feedback would be appreciated

/thankyou

@Tryynity: this is not really the place to ask for help. There are posting guidelines in the read-first post pinned to the top of this forum. There is also solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of this forum. Based on what you posted, I suspect you are experiencing a known issue with multi-core processors. There is more information and instructions on how to set processor affinity to one or two cores linked in the solutions round-up thread (it's toward the bottom of the first post). If you need further help, please start your own help thread using the guidelines in the read first thread.

sorry noctivagus. i was not here for some days. iam glad u found it. for others- either use a setup to install daupdater service into services.msc or add it manually using cmd and installutil.exe found in one of the folders here=D:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework. copy installutil to binship in da. then change dir in cmd to binship like=F:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age™ Origins - Ultimate Edition\\bin_ship>. then type InstallUtil.exe DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe (its case sensitive-try it without space between files too). now find the da service in services.msc and change the startup type in properties to automatic so that it will run during startup. if u quit da after playing some time this service stops- u will have to go to services.msc to start it again. if u use the setup u get from origin to install the service, u will not have to start it up manually. it corrects most authorization issues in all editions digital or retail. run cmd as admin.

I reinstalled DA:O today. I own the regular edition and bought Awakenings separately.
I downloaded all the minor DLC items through links at the unofficial Wiki and had no problem, even though some of them showed up as not purchased as did the bigger DLC even though I own ll of them. Selecting "Re-download previously bought DLC" in the game options took care of that. So I wanted to play while downloading of the bigger DLC through the DLC menu in game, but the download always failed. So I downloaded the bigger DLC (Golems, Withhunt,...) from the social site and since then the authorisation issue has appeared.
After I installed patch 1.05 I can no longer start the game from the game order (Windows 7 home premium) and have to launch it from disk, but the DLC seems to work as intended. I have not played much yet, so I can not give feedback on increased loading times for now.

The patch seems to disassociate the shortcuts for the game for some people. It is easy to fix. Under "My Computer" in the Windows menu, navigate to the drive the game is installed on (usually C) then go to Program Filesx86. There should be a folder for Dragon Age Origins there. Open it and go to the bin_ship folder. Inside there will be an application file. Right click and select create shortcut. You can then put that shortcut any place you wish and copy it to add it to other locations.

You might want to go back and read some of the other threads pinned to this forum...  lots of discussion on this already.  But to be brief:

1) No, the patch is not just for Ultimate Edition.  It is for both the original and UE editions of DA: Origins.

2) No, the patch only addresses DLC authorization issues.

3) Check out the "Community Fixit Project" thread for info on some other bug fixes for the games.

I would like some clarification on this. Is there EVER going to be an OFFICIAL patch for the various bugs that remain in Origins, or are you just going to have us rely on the community for those? I think it's great that you have a community willing to make mods and such for optional/custom content, but IMO actual problems with the game should be fixed by the company.

If those problems have been put on the back burner (aside from this authentication issue) and 1.04 was the last major bugfix patch, that's fine I guess, I would just like official word on this.

FYI: Raen is just a volunteer, not BioWare staff. BW staff are rarely in this forum. Comments made in the community fixit thread would suggest that they may combine the best of the community bug fixes into a semi-official patch, but that has been the closest to "official" word on this as we have gotten or are likely to get.

@Vincentdante

The patch isn't designed to fix CTD issues, just the DLC ones. So far the game still crashes when I use smite, but you never know, the crashes could be related to whatever's causing the slow downs, so fixing one might just fix the other. No guarantees mind!

Is this patch gonna fix the crashes on Windows 7 with 2 or 4 core procesor? I've had issueds when I've been beating DAO again. It crashes in random moments, sometimes even don't.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1
Intel Core i7 920 @2,66GHz
MSI GeForce 560Ti
3x2GB Ram DDR3

Nope, this is only to solve the DLC issues, have a look in the solutions round up stickies for help, things like the fallout memory fix might help.

What kinda BS is this!!!
First off this patch is surpose to "fix" the DLC problem but only wardens keep is working, RTO and my SP is Not in the game and when i play the load time can be up to 10 min, seriusly this is F... up, And i can see that you Stil havent fixed the stability problem.

i only play DAO/AW because i need a new import save file.

I appreciate it's frustrating, but that's why this is a clearly marked beta and not a full on patch yet. It might be worth checking your firewall settings for the DLC along with the stickies in the rest of the PC Tech Support forums, alternatively there's a DA2 import generating application you can download if you don't want to replay the game again.

The firewall thing? Possibly. The importer? Not sure - been a while since I used it and no worries.
