So, I was playing ME2 scanning planets when suddenly a blue screen flashed and the computer restarted. When I reopened the game, it asked me to "register to cerberus network" as if it was the first time I was playing the game. Nothing seem to have changed in my saved games, except I lost all the achievements I had. Wtf? Should I adress BioWare tech support or something? Or is it gone for good?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like you lost your Player1.prf file (found under My Documents\\Bioware\\ etc, not in the install folder) during the crash. If your computer is set to back up files automatically, you could try right-clicking on it, select Properties, see if anything's available under the "Previous Versions" tab. Otherwise, the only solution is to get someone else's achievement-complete Player1.prf.

If you're interested, I found a player1.prf file with everything BUT the arrival achievements. I got the pc version and transferred my 360 savefile with epic legion's tool.

Give me your email, and I'll send you the player1.prf

I am going to manually back up my player1.prf file before I play, ever again! I had my first real ingame crash in ME2 last night, shut my computer down, and then came across posts about crashes here this morning and now I'm nervous that my player1.prf file might be corrupted.  I'm too afraid (and too lazy) to truck it on over to the "East Wing" (joke) to where my desktop is to check it out.

I hadn't had one single crash (masseffect2.exe application error) until I started installing additional DLC.  Installed 3 of them last night (Cerberus Armor, Blood Dragon Armor, and the Normandy Crash Site) and had finished playing the Normandy Crash Site one, went to recruit Tali, and the game just randomly crashed during the mission. I QuickSave like a fiend, so hopefully everything will be allright...

I just shut my PC down in disgust and went to bed.  Hopefully my player1.prf file is okay...like I said, I'm too chicken to check it out.  Also, I usually play late at night (from 9 to midnight on my pc) and do all my email, web surfing, bioware socializing, from my netbook in he mornings.  What a life, eh?

I installed all my DLC a day before this crash. So yeah... might have something to do with it.
Is there any problem in using someone else's player1.prf? Is there any other function that relies on this archive or is it just the achievements?

It's kinda funny finnishing the collector's base mission to get "the first new codex entry out of 15" achievement. It's not even possible to get there without any codex entries. Lol stupid AI.

Thank you, but I'm okay...for now. Player1.prf file was still intact. All achievements accounted for. Game just decided to crash, that's all. I'm still backing up my achievements file, just the same.

Has anyone compiled a listing of user-configured files that would be a good handful or so to keep backed up? Save files would be an obvious set, but what about configuration settings?

Any suggestions?

Guess it would be just that. Save file, along with DLC and player1.prf file. I don't know if you can use the extracted dlc files, or if you have to install them from scratch every time though.

Bit late, but I had to reinstall the game (for reasons I won't go into here, my DLC wouldn't install to the correct directory - I'd installed to a custom dir and was never asked where to put the DLC) but made sure to backup my saves first. Player1.prf obviously wasn't with it.... I can't accept someone else's player1.prf either, because I had yet to get Insanity, Paramour and a few others. damn it all!

Check the Mass Effect wiki and you can find out how to create a keybind to cheat your achievements back.

I can probably hack the coalesced but I can't remember exactly which achievements I had left to get apart from the insanity and paramour ones. But thanks Bogsnot. I'll have a peek... I actually found a backup from an earlier install on another drive, but it has paramour (which I don't want), I'll see if I can cheat it out. :D
