Because it's not a big deal, it only takes a second to put on a damn seatbelt and it increases the chance of you not flying out of your seat and head first into your windshield if you get into a crash. But like most people said if a person dies because they didn't bother to put their seatbelt on, hey one less idiot on the road and great population control.

Laws on how people live every aspect of our lives IS population control

Right... because a law requiring people to wear a seatbelt for their own good is controlling every aspect of their life, you must think requiring people to wear clothes is also controlling thier life as well. Image IPB

For their own good? lol yes stepping on human rights with bull**** is for peoples own good. The only thing this is for is to have a sorry excuse to have the opportunity to extort money from people, no other reason.

A-are you serious!? You wouldn't have to worry about the government 'extorting' money from you if you wore the seatbelt in the first place. And oh look its the 'oh noes gov'ment trying to take my humans whites away!?' shall we discuss why speed limits exist? Or how about we discuss why we must get drivers lincenses?

This issue isn't black or white.

It is actually...

*suffle suffle* Inserts the lock into the casing *click*

There, 2 seconds later, I'm wearing a seatbelt.

I seriously can't get it into my head why some people have to make this such a big freaking deal. It's one click. One freaking click. Something you do as a habit whenever you start up your car. I drive during winter. I drive during summer. Long trips, short trips. Burning hot temperatures, freezing sub zero temperatures. And not once have I been bothered by the existense of seatbelts.

Whenever I have something heavy on the back seat, like my computer and the monitor, I buckle them both up with seatbelts. I do NOT want a piece of plastic and metal and circuits penetrating my goddamn skull if I get in a car crash. Now imagine if the "thing" on the back seat was a bag of meat called a human. I don't want that penetrating my skull either...nor my windshield...

And I don't give a rat's ass what the supposed studies say. I prefer to rely on common sense.

Jeez, no need to be hostile. You can disagree without being disagreeable... :?

I am in no way arguing that people shouldn't be wearing seatbelts, instead I am merely speaking against the law requiring them. Just because I like to wear seatbelts doesn't mean I want to force everyone to, for numerous reasons. I find that enforcing these laws are a waste of time for police officers, considering they could be using that time to look out for actual crime. I also find it as a more or less victimless crime (unless they fly through the window and hit someone, but that is probably rare), so I don't see the reason for the law. Also, studies show that making people wear seatbelts who normally don't tends to make them drive faster, due to risk compensation. I am not saying "Durr, seatbelts are teh evilz", I simply don't support laws pertaining to wearing seatbelts.

@Swordfishtrombone, thanks for the statistics, I will have to consider them in shaping my beliefs.

I don't worry as the only reason I do wear the seat belt in the city is only because I don't want my money to end up in these theives grubby hands. Oh you're probably right, the people in goverment are all F***king Angels wanting what's best for us. Congradulations for the goverment counts on blissfuly ignorant people like you for support... job well done! :police:

Oh you don't want to get in the speed limits debate, trust me. I really don't have the time to waste with someone who doesn't use their Gawd given brain to think on things and just follow hearsay like a good little sheep.

Right I'm a 'sheep' just because I don't ****** and moan about something so minor. I'd love to discuss this more with you but I don't have the time to waste on an arrogant individual who lacks enough common sense to worry about their safety or other's safety.

In Pennsylvania, it is requirement to wear seatbelts. Why? Furthermore, motorcyclists who have over two years cycle driving experience and over age 21 don't need to wear a helmet.

What's up with this whole ordeal?

1. Because otherwise, you'll die.
2. Because otherwise when you fly over that cliff you'll fly around all over your car headbutting your passengers to death, in other words it's preventing you from commiting MURDER.
3. Because it's not that frickin hard to put a seatbelt on, even a small child can do it, if you can't that says a whole lot about your intelligence.
4. Because if you don't wear it you'll get a fine.

As for the helmet-deal, one stupid law doesn't exclude a good one, if you're not adult enough to see that then maybe you shouldn't  have a license in the first place.

Stop being a baby.
:police:

<--------same principle applies to a car, and this was conducted at a standstill, do you think it'll be better or worse if we add some speed to that crash? If you really think you shouldn't wear a seatbelt then you shouldn't have a license, immature idiots like you is the biggest reason people die in traffic.

I bet you're 16 or 17 and think your last name is schumacker, am I right? An automotive god among mortals, right?
People like you really ****** me off.

I'll tackle this point by point.

1.) And? Why should we be prevented from that, it's a personal choice.

2.) You have a strange definition of murder. Also, no one forces you to be a passenger (assuming you have passengers in the car).

3.) No one ever said putting on seatbelts was difficult, the issue is why the government should force you to.

4.) What? You need seatbelt laws because if you don't wear one you get fined?

Also, being against a law doesn't mean that you're for or against the action itself. That's like saying "If your against drug laws then you want to smoke meth all day", or "If your against violent video game laws then you want all children to play Grand Theft Auto and kill hookers".

Because government today has decided they must protect us from ourselves with stupid laws like this.

That, and they need money, so they think of ways to fine us for things - such as this, talking on a phone while driving, etc.

Big brother syndrome. It sucks.

Absolutely, however, the gorverment needs money like god needs money, there is never enough ;)

Well talking on the phone is the same as talking on a CB radio and like anything it should be left to good
judgement. If you can't drive properly while talking on either phone or CB Radio, one should not drive while
doing so and should pull over in order to or wait at their next stop. While I can drive and talk on my cell phone
at the same time, I have seen first hand (rarely mind you) people who clearly can't do both. But like you I'm
not for lost of liberty because of a select few... totaly unacceptable.

I must add that texting while driving however, not very bright.

The thing I don't get about phones is that you CAN use one while driving - you just can't hold it in your hand.  Handsfree devices are fine.  And personally, I've always figured the act of HAVING the conversation was the distracting part, not holding the phone.

I mean, i generally drive with one hand on the wheel.  That's legal.  I often change radio stations.  That's legal.  I can use a handsfree phone.  That's legal.  Hell, I can hold my phone in my hand if I'm not talking on it - that's legal.  I just can't hold it to my ear and spak with someone.  That, for some odd reason, is illegal.

Makes no sense.

I do agree about texting and driving, though.

1. If you're going to off yourself, do it privately, not on public roads.
2. Murder is when you by a deliberate action that you can reasonably predict could kill someone else kills someone, again, if you want to kill yourself go ahead, just don't infringe on my right to live by doing so, and yes passengers can choose not to ride with you, but do I really need to cut this out in cardboard for your viewing pleasure?.
3. Because you seem incapable of doing it yourself if you're making all this fuzz about it? Oh it's not like there are a whole lot of people who die every year because they're to stupid to use it is there? Oh wait...

4. No, you need to wear a seatbelt or you'll be fined, I was just stating the most obvious answer to the question posed in the OP.
As for being for or against a law: I don't need to read between a whole lot of lines to get what this topic is about, and it's not the principle of laws stating the obvious but an obvious ****ing kid complaining about how unfair it is that he can't drive his car while hanging halway out the window or doing some other stupid stunt like that.

and FYI: The Anarchy proponents died out like 25 years ago, if you want to live where nobody is controling you I can heartily suggest Somalia, nobody is going to force you to wear a seatbelt, clothes or anything like that there, just don't expect anyone to save you from the AK47-wielding warlords.

I didn't mean to make you mad. I'm sorry you got angry. However, your assertion of committing murder through "headbutting" passengers is both false and fanatical...murder requires intent to kill, plus the statistical likelihood is astronomically against that occurring.

Anyways, why would you care if I wear a seatbelt or not? Whatever happened to I live my life they way I want, you live yours they way you want? Many people use this motto involving marijuana (California), why can't it apply in every aspect of life?

I am an individual. I want to have freedom in my life. To live free. Inform me of risks, educate...but don't tell me what I can and can't do. It's pretty simple...leave me alone and let me live my life.

So what if i die? Isn't that my choice? Am I not aware of the risks?

Guess you could say im pro-choice on seatbelts. It's my body, isnt it???

The only thing I see about that is the headbutting passengers thing.

If that's not your argument, please enlighten me.

If you don't see that as trampling of human rights, then you're in big trouble and one of these days you'll find out the hard way. Anyhow, "Me get killed in a car crash?" not likely as I'm an expert driver... however if against all odds some tractor trailer hits me and I really can't prevent it? I wouldn't be suprised given the fact that cars are practicaly made out of cardboard since the 80s and being tied up by a seat belt and all...

I could equally say to you, if you don't see a law that bans individuals from purchasing/owning hand grenades, then you're in big trouble and one of these days you'll find out the hard way.

What exactly constitutes a 'trampling' of your 'rights' is entirely subjective - depending on what you percieve your own rights to be.  If you are personally offended by the notion that the government legally requires you to wear a seatbelt, then by all means, please, express your displeasure.  Some will agree with you, some will not.  Please do not state or imply however, that other people are wrong simply because their idea of 'trampled rights' differs to your own.  There is no place for such childishness here.

A seatbelt saved my life in a head-on collision.
Seriously, I am very "live and let live", but I have zero tolerance for people who whine about having to wear seat belts. If you don't wear one, you are just plain stupid. Why wouldn't you?!?
