Portal 2 sold more on PC than on console.

Also, the game won't ship with DRM. These Polish devs sure are making everyone else look like a bunch of corporate douchebags.

A small team creating a game and aiming it exclusively at PCs? It seems like a risky move financially. Zych disagrees. "Consoles are past their peak of interest. In my opinion everyone is moving their focus to mobile devices: iOS and Android mobiles, to social games on Facebook and finally to digital distribution on PCs," he told Ars. "The number of copies sold for all the other systems is not as big as for consoles, but the royalties a developer gets from the deal are much, much higher."

Amen. The sooner consoles die the better.

Consoles die?  You remind me of the black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail who still thinks he can win after getting all of his limbs cut off.
The game will come to console because despite their noble rhetoric they're still a business and console gaming is where the money is at.

Of course it's where the money is at, it's where the entire gimped industry is at. I hear Harry Potter is pretty popular as well...

Anyway, you get the demo? What do you think?

Harry Potter's awesome. He is, as you say, my boy.

Consoles won't die for the exact same reason the PC (if not computers in general) won't. And now consoles are becoming more than just game players. Consoles are becoming limited PCs.

Anyway... demo?

Partly due to boredom, partly due to curiosity, I'm downloading it. I don't expect to be surprised, but we'll see.

It was a lot more fun than I imagined. I played the demo a second time.

Hint: you can blow up walls to find a secret vending machine that gives you an upgrade

Well, it definitely was a HARD RESET. And when I say HARD, I mean HARD. The game is merciless in how retro it is. It's basically the Cthulhu Saves The World of FPS' (only it takes itself seriously).

I didn't like the comic book cutscenes. They felt extremely out of place.

Everything else was decent. Nothing mindblowing, but fun.

It's not really tactical, but it requires a bit of thinking and some fast reflexes. They could have done without the comic book cut-scenes, poorly done.

I think I'll get it though. It's good fun.

Now that I've played the demo I feel kind of torn on it. The world is gorgeous, but I was hoping for more RPG elements and a plot I could follow. And the weapons didn't thrill me either.

It was Hard as Bryy said though. But I really hope you don't have to spend every fight running backwards while shooting. That got old after the second fight.

It took several attempts to beat the last demo stage on "Insanity" mode.

There are a few weapon upgrades that seem to be essential to survive.

I didn't notice any cut scenes in the game - unless you are referring to the introduction sequence?

The part at the end of the demo that feels like a comic book is not a cut scene IMO - I think it is a sort of low budget trailer they made using screenshots to try to convince us to buy the game.

Has anyone found this game available on a digital site other than Steam?

I bought the game from Steam. So far I've played it for about 4 hours (using "Insane" mode) and I believe I've completed about 30-40% of the game. Really enjoyed it so far, as I enjoyed the demo.

I can't believe how well the game runs on my laptop at 1920x1080, all settings maxed, without even overclocking my GPU (AMD 5830m).

I have absolutely no problem with the checkpoints. If you could easily save everywhere, then the game would be too easy and it would probably only take a few hours to beat.

With the checkpoints it's much more challenging and results in significantly more game time. Also, you have to figure out tactically how to beat some of the really tough areas.

A new patch is available for Hard Reset, improving gameplay mechanics. More content is in the works. Looks like they could well  be another great Polish dev to support.

So, are patches for Steam games applied automatically, or do you have to click a link on the site and download it?

patches are applied automatically unless you specifically change the setting for the game not to update.

This game is awesome. Straight up mayhem, creative levels, and incredible graphics. My only complaint is there could have been more enemy types to mix up the combat a bit.

The giant mechanical spider boss fight is the most impressive set peice I've ever seen in a shooter. And my god it never ends. Tears are streaming down my face when that thing crawls up the second time.

Lord..make it stop. :crying:

I'm hoping for a cyberpunk RPG one day, though I doubt we'll ever see one. Preferably one where you can design your own character.

It's a love letter to old school run-and-gun shooter fans. Don't expect the kind of tactical depth in BF3, but it does have some strategic elements and it's crazy fun. It's also one of the best looking games I own, and runs beautifully on an average rig. The graphics engine is a friggin beast. Only Frostbite 2 and RED engine look better imo.

Edit: Also, I believe there is a demo available.

I'll have to check the specs on my 3 machines and see if I can run it on them. With me, I simply love the atmosphere, so it doesn't have to be a shooter that's meant to be realistic like BF3 or MW3, I'd just appreciate something that feels like its taking place in a Cyberpunk space.

It runs very well even at max I suggest trying the demo first.

A comment from the devs on Steam:

As the Kalypso guy stated:

'We (Kalypso) don't have the rights for digital.'

Also:

They are charging $30 for the Extended Edition, which all but confirms the DLC will be free for the rest of us. Plus the new graphics engine enhancements. That's my take.

They say in the vid the game is 6-8 hrs long. I can say from experience it's only that short if you never die. Good luck with that.

As expected ( because Polish devs are awesome), the new dlc for Hard Reset will be free.

"Hey guys, First of all thanks for all the support you showed us with our first game!
To show our respect for all the PC gamers who picked up Hard Reset, we decided that the upcoming Expansion will be
FREE for all those who already own Hard Reset on Steam! Image IPB
The DLC should be available sometime between the last week of April and the first week of May.

Have Fun!"
