Tactical cam, ditch the final fantasy - fable graphics lovechild, more choice, less pigeon holed combat for the sake of having **** loads of combat, don't try to create a moral dilemma wth mages saying "oooh we would never do blood magic" right before they all do it, don't destroy any exisiting characters you choose to use, make the inventory iteresting (the design was waaay better, the items were not), return to items that might be worthwhile to keep rather than just get the most powerful and sell the rest, most passive abilities, RPG's NEED to have a greater level of persuasion / charm / intimidate dialogue choices and skills, keep the friendship / rivalry but beef it up a bit more, if you're going to set a timeline - effect changes over the course of that timeline, make the world breath - its empty and its hollow and lifeless - the cheesewheels had more character.

Yeah ok, so some of that MAY have been a bit harsh, but the way I see it, DA2 is a colour by numbers of a Picaso thats only half done. The base is there, it just needs someone to give it some time and love.

Finally, unless you fully voice EVERY dialogue option and have more than a few, a voiced avatar with a dialogue wheel doesn't provide enough depth to get into the world. It makes the character feel less like your character, and you feel like you're watching someone elses.

^

Currently not planning on buying DA3.  I'll wait until someone lets me try it out, like I did with DA2, and then determine whether its worth my money.

I don't want my hand held by the developer.  I want to jump on a game and tear it apart with my teeth.  I like challenging games (both skill challenges and mental/emotional challenges) that aren't tedious--DA2 was tedious.

I'm going to leave this open, with one caveat - that it not be used as a vehicle to attack specific individuals. Feel free to discuss design decisions or other aspects of the game as a whole that you feel would be a must-have, but avoid the 'as long as person X is gone'.

That we get to continue Hawke's story, and that we'll see Aveline and Isabela again.

Allow me to clarify.

'Character X needs to be gone', groovy. No problem.

'Developer X needs to be gone', nope. Not something we're going to be doing here.

"We're getting rid of the paraphrases."
Also: "We're re-adding a working camera to PC so that AoE aiming is not a nightmare."
"We're re-adding non-combat skills and allowing to resolve confrotations through the use of them instead of combat."
"We're re-adding pace breakers and puzzle level to reduce the dullness of cyclic combat-talk-combat-talk dynamic."
"We're reworking the system so that it could be converted to tabletop RPG, thus ensuing integrity and coherence in the gameplay and character design."
"We're re-adding proper characterization of of NPCs so we can remove silly, uncalled for restrictions in their configuration that had no real point."
"We're avoiding facepalm inducing autoattack animations."
"We're allowing you to play as a dorf."
There's so many stuff gone wrong in DA 2.

They need to get rid of that John Epler guy. As a dwarf gamer, I am personally offended by the tall person bias Bioware displays in both in its developers and selection of love interests.

I will not be satisfied unless DA3 is staffed entirely by persons under 4'10" and there are at least 4 dwarf love interests for me to choose from.

Knowing Hawke won't be in DA3 as the main protagonist (preferably not in DA3 at all) would boost my confidence massively. Nothing worse than your favourite franchise being ruined for you because you absolutely hate the character you're being given to play.

Agreed.

It's not any one thing really. Just a general sense that the franchise is moving back to classic RPG elements, with emphasis on deep, well crafted single player games and mod support. I'm not sure anything could make me like DA2, but release of a toolset/ mod support would be a great signal that for DA at least, that BioWare is not going to continue in the consolization/ McRPG/ pay as you go model.

As far as in-game, the feature I most want back is silent PC. That's not going to happen, so I'd rejoice over isometric camera and being able to equip your party members and talk to them anywhere. Basically more of a sense that I'm the one crafting how the story goes, not that I'm being hand-led through a linear story. If I wanted that, I'd play JRPGs. Or, watch a movie.

I don't exactly -need- a confidence bolster, but I think Dragon Age needs some awesome music. What we've gotten so far is good, but it's not very memorable. In fact, most of my favorite music from DAO are variations of the same song. DA2 isn't much better, with only 3-4 songs I remembered after I was done playing.

So I want awesome music. When I hear the music from DA3+, I want it to make me shiver with its grandness. When I move on from a scene with great music, I want to think "I need this music." That's the music that makes me buy the soundtrack.

I don't need my confidence restored. Its a game company, not my spouse/friend/relative/congressman. Image IPB

That said, I do hope isometric camera comes back. As does broader weapon selection.

I want BioWare to stay true to their vision of the franchise, and not give in to fan suggestions. I'd rather they present their game to me as it should be, not as how I want it to be.

The 'sticky' targeting for AoE spells bothered me. I would much prefer to place it exactly where I want.

Aside from that, I want more character moments in a group setting that allow the companions to show their personalities. For example, imagine a gathering of nobles to vote for something (like the Landsmeet). But instead of it all being canned before entering, the night before there is a gala party, and the PC has to go and convince key nobles to vote the "right" way. The companions are all at the party, where each of their individual personalities get to shine a little. The PC can utilize their unique strengths to help convince/threaten/blackmail/replace/etc. each noble to secure a vote, or can try to do it him/herself.

Damn it... if DA3 is in Orlais and this doesn't happen I will be upset and have to blame you. :crying:

It's an interesting question. As I search my soul, the overwhelming thought is: It's not going to happen!
I don't believe Bioware want to make that game any longer. They are going to "listen to their old fans" as they say. But just about things like more varied and creative sets of combat, less reused locations, no freefalling enemies, maybe an attempt at slightly less linear story. Pretty obvious and superficial things.
But those flaws were never by intention. They were just a natural outcome from making a 'sequel' on a somewhat tight shedule, while also having the goal to completely redo the style and character of that game franchise. If anything, I agree with the hard choices I can see having been made, to complete the game on shedule. Rather reused dungeons than a shortened game.

I don't hate those flaws. They're disappointing but don't make me angry. They don't make me feel insulted. They don't make DA2 into a kind of game I don't want to play.

The changed style does! And the restyling was intentional.
...And I don't think Bioware is prepared to give up that. To me it's perfectly clear though, I don't want to purchase a DA game again that features characters styled like Fenris Image IPB or revamped Flemeth Image IPB, exploding bodies Image IPB, horned qunari Image IPB or all those retarded armor designs Image IPB.
I have a theory: There are two very different kinds of players. Those who play a game like they watch a movie, with thrown in combat for 'wow-Hawke-so-awesome' -kicks. And those others who want to experience something, maybe an adventure, including the experience of responsibility and grit.
There is one issue that i suspect divides them. I've decided to take hold of that:

If Bioware abandons the dialogue wheel and voiced protagonist - That will restore my hopes for DA.
See? I told you. It's not going to happen.

Hmmm where do I start.

Plot - DA2 was somewhat lacking in this department. Several times I'd ask myself 'why am I even doing this?' while playing. Act 1 = get money. Act 2 = get famous. Act 3 = get the hell out. I feel like there wasn't enough consistency between the three acts and that either the Qunari invasion or the Mage/Templar issue should've been the main focus. There was too much going on and it all happened too quickly for me to even care about what was going on. Oh, a ragtag team of qunari are throwing a fit? Whatever, why should I care. Oh, the mages and templars can't get along? Whatever, that has nothing to do with me.

Player Character - Hawke was an okay dude/lady but I didn't really like him/her. I think the name is the first issue I have. It just rubs me the wrong way. I guess this is more an issue of taste, but bluh. It might also feel like there was a lack of customization. First off, does my customHawke look all that different from your customHawke? Probably not. Getting a unique face was difficult. One advantage Origins had was having different races with more distinct features. And on the topic of different races; DIFFERENT RACES. I was tickled pink at the origin part of Origins. It felt personal and made your character much more interesting. It showed their background and a little bit of their culture. All we hear about Hawke is he/she was from Lothering, and all we see is them running away. Should we care about them losing their home to darkspawn? I don't because I never had a reason to. I had a "Whatever dude, deal with it" kind of feeling.

Music - The soundtrack just... didn't do anything for me. Again, this might just be an issue of taste.

Characters - Round characters with rich backgrounds and interesting designs. Varric was a huge step in the right direction and I still wish more had been done with him. I'd also like a return to the old conversation system from Origins. I liked being able to talk to my companions whenever I wanted. Another taste issue.

In terms of gameplay, I wouldn't mind it being a bit slower and requiring more tact. DW Rogues might need a little beefing up, too. On harder difficulties, they don't stand a chance, especially in the fight with the Arishok.

But that's just my two cents, and I'll probably add more later.

Well said, and pretty much exactly how I feel as well.

Make looting the joyful experience it used to be, Bioware. Pretty please?

Yes, this!

I loved DA2 and actually prefer the direction they're taking the franchise in, so I don't need to have my confidence bolstered or any of that nonsense, but I was a bit disappointed with the music in DA2. There were some excellent tunes in there, but there were others that just fell flat to me. Though my biggest issue at times was the lack of any music in key moments (the speeches at the end being the most glaring example).

Other than that though, I don't share any of the caveats most people on this kind of thread do (stupid Hawke hate, wanting a mute back, disliking the new combat, etc.), so eh, I don't really have much else to add.

Oh gawd, that too. It was a pain setting AoE spells in both games, though it was easier in Origins due to the iso camera.

Yeah, better music is about it. It seems that the best tunes were criminally underused in both games, which is a damn shame. I also agree, the speeches with proper music could have been fantastic.

In addition, tone down the generic loot, especially the rings, amulets, and belts. I felt like a jewelry store on all my playtroughs.

And for last, have enough dev time to finish the game good. I think 2 can easily cover it.
