I'm going to guess it's some kind've shareable customization feature. Not genuine multiplayer but some way to upload/share your modded/painted guns and armor, something like they do with cars in Forza.

I'm gonna hope for this, because that then means the customization options will be through the roof.

Something tells me it might be a depiction of the Theater mode from Halo 3, which was also featured in other games such as Ninja Gaiden II. But then again I don't see it since PC gamers can already do that with FRAPS and the likes.
