Is it just me?? Are the problems that many players are having just being ignored??
I emailed EA support on the 10 November, yet to recieve a reply!! No news about it on EA tech support.
I have vista 64sp2, core2 quad8200, 4gb ram and ati 4870. The game looks great, runs smooth, no graphical glitches, pc temps are ok, Now for the bad bit... it crashes alot ....play crash, play crash... Posted Image .somtimes its BSOD sometimes just stops responding and somtimes drops back to desktop, it can hapen any time eg while the game is paused or during dialogue, or in combat.
My pc is normally rock solid, no over clocking and  ive tried ati drivers 9.6, 9.7, 9.9 and  9.10 with no noticeble difference.
What really worries me is looking round the net, i found many people having same trouble even with very diferent spec machines eg Xp amd cpu and nvidia gpu,

Just really getting fedup with the fact EA cant even acknoledge the probelm even existsPosted Image

yes i agree no one from ea or Bioware has responded to me either its a real shame that they are doing this cause the game seems fun but they want fix the crashing bugs and they dont seem to care either i guess they figure they got our money they dont need to fix it. i just wish bioware would post something and let us know its being worked on so atleast we would know we are going to get a fix

EA's support for this game appears to be borderline useless. There's apparently a link to chat or something in a sticky on top of this forum, but it doesn't seem to be that helpful.

Leaving that aside, you say that you sometimes get a BSOD. When that happens, can you write down the error code it gives you and post it here? It is in the form of a hexadecimal number followed by up to 4 other hexadecimal numbers in parenthesis, e.g.

STOP: 0x000000A1 (0x00B2C3E4, 0x00056789, 0x13579246, 0x00000000)

I just made that one up; so it probably doesn't exist, but the format is correct.

I have the same issues. Core i7, Gigabyyte EX58-UD5,Radeon 4870x2,Vist SP2 DX11 update all other games solid. This one drops to desktop totally random can re-maximize usually, freezes too, but try this... when changing menus dont click over too fast. I know its frustrating with a fast machine I have all settings maxed, and its all beautiful until the locks. They happen less when you are "patient" when you change from menus. Also use CATALYST 9.8 I have tested and cleaned and re-cleaned all 9.6 to 9.11, and 9.8 is THE BEST.

Also SAVE OFTEN, seems like an Obvious one, but it will stop you from punching your monitor.

I'm assuming you have tried this from the troubleshooting sticky:

http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

scroll down to:

vcredist_x86.exe --> DOWNLOAD ( regardless of whether you are running 32bit or 64bit you need THAT x86 file )

(To confirm you got the right file, you can check the file size; should be approx. 2.61 MB).

You will want to use the x86 version for ALL OS’s!

I was having very random crashes tested eveything, drivers, memory, cpu all fine. After installing this file i've had no crashes for over 20 hours of gameplay :)

My game has crashed 3 times so far, first was a 'memory could not be read' error, then a BSOD when I Alt+Entered to go windowed and lastly it just randomly crashed & came up with a "Send Error Report' / 'Don't Send' screen. I don't think this is the game though, my computer constantly Blue Screens when I'm browsing the net(firefox) & chatting in vent, even when vent isn't open the pc crashes, time for a format =]

I have had very mild problems compared to some of the issues others are facing. Installs fine cutscenes, screencaps, only a couple minimizes to desktop that remaximize, and a few irritating freezes.

I did read this sticky, but I though it was to get it to install. If you say this is a fix for the locks and freezes I will re-read carefully. I don't want to make anything worse. I have patch 1.01a installed fine on vista SP2 32bit, just want to get rid of that feeling please don't let this be the time.thankfully it only locked in 2 battles, usually it does it once its pausede or sits in menu for a break. Not too horrible to stop playing, but NEEDS a fix PATCH....PATCH 1.02 yet BIOWARE??

I went to update history and the link they provided for the fix from MS I already had --Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update- good to update often! It definately fixes all the install download bvase stability stuff.

I think I need to adjust my processor affinity fore core i7s as suggested using threads 5,6,7,8 in the processes for dragon age in windows task manager

I to allready have that Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update installed,

I havn't tried changing the cpu affinity yet, I will try tomorow, allthough, i read a post somware about a chap who had tried this amoungst other things, but it made no differnence...

This perticular chap had even tried a clean windows install many other things such as playing with no sound ect ect. and he still had exact same problems,

I havn't been this disapionted in a games reliability since Ultima IX: Ascension! or trying to run dungeon keeper 2 on vista 64.

lets hope EA Bioware come up with a patch soon... b4 i loose the will to keep playing!

thanx everyone for your assitance . I hope it works for others who are strugling to play because of crashes.

Dragon Age also freezes for me every 20 minutes or so... sometimes less. But I've managed to play until the end of the battle in Ostagar. I've been trying all day to get past "the travelling" to the Lotherin village, without success as it always crashes.

I want to try the affinity suggestion. But the option to "set affinity" doesn't appear in the task bar. Is this normal or do I need to do/install smth to have access to that option?

Computer Specs:

OS: Windows Vista 64
Intel i7 CPU 920 @ 2,67 GHz
Motherboard: P6T Deluxe
RAM: 6 GB
Gfx Card: HD 4870 1 GB (I downgraded drivers to catalyst 9.7 due to a suggestion in these forums)

Thx for any help, I'm trying to go through all the suggestion to get this game to work properly!

I am gald to hear it wish, I did it to my core i7 affinity set to 4,5,6,7, work great. then I found out the drops to desktop are caused by the new AVG 9.0 upgrade. I unuinstalled it and used Microsoft security essentials and it has been all smooth on max settings, anti-aliasing 8x, pre-buffering, vert-sync on

I didn't use 1.01b didn't need too,

I am so in love.I hope you all get your DAO working it is truly something and I am not that far yet. IT IS AN EPIC.  GOOD LUCK to all!!!

Make sure you get the Visual C++ upgrade as stated, (it is in patch 1.01b) then do as wish says alt tab,
(I didn't have to because my game would drop to desktop because AVG 9.0 was kicking me out.) when it did I=

CTRL,SHIFT,ESC, bring up task manager go to processes, click the bottom apply to all users button, then find DAO origins- Then RIGHT CLICK scroll to AFFINITY and click it you will have threads 0-7, UN-CHECK 0,1,2,3 and leave 4,5,6,7 CHECKED. then exit. Run Game and Test.Try it its worth it. It has worked for quite a few of us Core i7 users.

Also, If you use AVG 9.0-uninstall and try another Anti Virus. I used MS Security Essentials (it hogs a little memory) but runs games so stable, and really shields your machine well.

Installing that C++ update helped with the crashing. I also change the CPU affinities for the game as well and it seems to help.

Only problem is that I can't figure out how to get the game running so it automatically changes to those affinities instead of manually doing it everytime I run the game. Sometimes I forget to change it myself.

I (S3) sleep my machine so it keeps the affinities set, I am not sure if it changes on reboot. We could investigate this, but I am not sure perhaps a shortcut edit could do this, but I am not sure. Also ATI catalyst driver 9.8 works well, although I read on a post that 9.11 runs it very good.

I think a patch for i7s may become necessary, but I have played it forgetting to set the affinities after reboot and I played fine for 3 hours and no issue so- the Visual C++ update seems most important.

I really think a high powered machine helps as well. even though they have min specs lower. I just built my Core i7 940 about 6 months ago with a 4870x2 and it blows through it after I got the little bugs out.
