I personally never use the WASD keys to navigate the user window, as I've wound them to be clunky in their accuracy/speed.
For preview viewport (not camera but rather the "stage") purposes I use the mousewheel moving it forward and back until I get the desired distance from the characters (for precision animation coordination) since with every mousewheel increment forward and back, the distance slightly differs.
Also, Alt+middle click allows you to rotate around a point and middle click moves the entre area when navigating.
As far as moving the cameras themselves I rely entirely on
manually moving the camera navigation arrows to the exact point I would like my cameras to be placed, by toggling the 3D axis movement/rotation switches on the menu bar and adjusting them accordingly with the mouse itself in the user window, while previewing the actual shot in the camera preview viewport.
Middle wheel clicking directly in a camera preview window allows for you to rotate the camera for fine tuning shot rotationwise.
Nevertheless, if you prefer to use the auto keys there are settings you can make by going to Tools>Options>Cutscene Editor>Camera and manually edit zoom speeds in the appropriate fields.
