So, I was thinking. I'd like to see a few new races and creatures. I can think of one example for race and a few for creatures.

RACES:

1.) Centaur --- It would be interesting to see centaurs. Maybe have them as forest dwellers in the ancient forest of Arlathan, once friends to the ancient elves. For centuries they've remained hidden from humans and dwarves, and to this day live in peace in the forests. Any intruder in their domain meets only one thing: a quick death.

CREATURES:

1.) Gorilla --- many posters have seen me express my want of a gorilla companion/summon. So I feel the need to mention this.
2.) Horses --- goes without saying
3.) Yeti --- According to the codex on what's beyond the Korcari Wilds to the South, there is a frozen tundra down there. So if we ever explore down there, we should see some Yetis. I do recall that it does have barbarians living

I don't know, maybe some others. Also, an interesting note. A book in the Circle in Witch Hunt talked about trolls. I'm not saying I want to see them. I kinda don't. But there was a book there, though IIRC it talked about how they were a myth in Thedas

And I'm not saying I want new races to be introduced in DA3. We know so little about the 6 races we have so far (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Kossith, Fex, Darkspawn). But maybe sometime in the future, like around DA4 or DA5.

So, thoughts? Opinions? Other ideas? What other creatures (which extends to fightable enemies) would you like to see?

Human female with small breasts.

Since it is a fantasy universe, I think that even something this mythical could very well exist.

If we can get this, how about different body and face shapes for everyone? Well everyone important anyway ;)

I would prefer they create entirely new races and creatures, or at least interpretations of more obscure mythological creatures, rather than implementing the same old tired cliches for which the medieval fantasy genre is known for. Fantasy isn't about elves and dwarves and orcs and trolls, fantasy is about imagination, creativity, not copy-pasting.

The Architect for example is brilliant in that respect. Probably my favorite design in the entire series.

Maybe they make something called a Wraith? I know we have various creatures with Wraith in their name, like Rock Wraiths, but I'd like to see some other incarnation that are true to the idea of Wraiths.

Filament, your fancy self never ceases to amaze me. I vote for Krakens in a future Dragon Age!

EDIT: I'd like to see some Cyclops as well. Maybe some Minotaurs? And Hydras? Although I'm delving too much into Greek Mythos, and God of War does that well enough.

Heh, my genius loci idea in that thread is vaguely reminiscent of what the Rock Wraith turned out to be. Not that I think my posting it had anything to do with that.

Something like this could work for a possessed/corrupted mage or darkspawn design.

And Hydras?

I think a hydra could be great... maybe a blighted dragon? Possessed? (I mean, anything from a corpse to a tree to a human can become possessed, why not an animal of dolphin-like intelligence?)

Back to being serious for a moment, I'd also like to see various dragons. So far the only dragons we've seen have been the Fire breathing type and an Archdemon, who dealt spirit damage.

I'm unsure of the nature of the Queen of the Blackmarsh prior to being all spectral. Was she a dragon that used electrical attacks prior to her spectral nature? Or was that the result of her spectral nature?

I'd like to see frost dragons and maybe even nature dragons. Skyrim is going to have frost and fire dragons, so I'd like for Dragon Age to do the same.

^this

I'm a bloke and all, but Dragon Age does seem to have a ... boob problem. I thought Origins was bad, but then I saw how DA2 had "enhanced" this even further by giving every woman in the game gigantomastia.

xDDDDDDD
The sad part: it's true. A bit of variety on human/elf/qunari/dwarf body appearance would be much appreciated.

Something that really want about "new" races is about elves. More than including new species or so, I would like to see how ancient-inmortal elves were. With the depressing setting for elves on DA universe, something like this could provide some great potential.

Ah, and the "volutes" (sorry, not sure how are they called in english; in spanish they are "volutas", and keep appearing in the fade as the lesser enemies). I know its weird, but I really miss them on the fade ^_^ As some kind of pure raw power, Im sure they could be expanded and refined as hostile creatures from the fade.

the wisps? I think the codex on them called them remnants of demons.

Yes ^_^ Those little things. I was not sure about the lesser demons part, though. But if that's the case, why not expand them? Anger/rage demons are lesser demons, and we see them in many forms -some powerful, some others weak.

Monsters or enemies like "wisps" are so different from any other creatures in the game that I'm sure they could be a great addition if perfected in some ways ^_^

EDIT: Like big wisps, capable of powerful sleeping spells; or big hordes of them, acting like one big, intelligent creature :D

I'm getting a strong Might & Magic vibe :P

...which isn't a bad thing, considering.

I'd like "regional" creatures. Yetis beyond the Korcari Wilds, Effrits in the north, Centaurs in the forests, Vampires in cemetaries, Cthuluesque things in the deep Deep Roads, Elementals... things that would come from various myths and brand new things, but with a "surroundings" theme. I'd also like flying things swooping down from the sky, provided you can hit them and they don't come pestering you in numbers (Cliff Racers, I'm looking at you <_<).

FFXII had a great way of dealing with flying creatures. They made it so that only magic, certain techniques, and bows and arrows could hit the flying creatures.

^ One of the good things in FFXII.. when I was doing that "every hunt as soon as possible and most optional bosses as soon as possible, without endless hours spent grinding"-playtrough that one flying-hunt monster was one of the most amazing and satisfying fights in the whole game because it was so hard because my characters sucked and couldn't deal that much damage with ranged attacks.

But well, that was about the only good thing about the game, some hard encounters, the first demon wall the first time you had the chance without having spend endless amount of time grinding was awesome and extremely satisfying once I figured out how to beat it.

It would be/could be nice to see something like those flying monsters only hittable by certain things.. But then they really need to bring back weapon choices for every class & weapon swap button.

You didn't like FFXII?

I thought FFXII was amazing. A story that was more political and ideological than anything else, and even when the supernatural elements came into play, the game still kept going on with the political aspect with the Occuria as a background element.

The world was also incredibly open, as far as sections go. At least in there you could travel from Rabanastre to the Tomb of Raithwall, or Rabanastre to Archadia.

The music score, while not as good as FFX's, had some really amazing songs.

FFXII is one of my favorite games. But I've gone off topic now.

What about the Fex we were going to learn about in DA2? Unless they are going to be used later in a DLC at some point.

Something to keep in mind is in the Dragon Age Universe there are only four types of creatures:

Races:  Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Kossuth, Fex.  Obviously we need to see the Fex eventually, although I'm worried they'll be some "awesomeized" in some manner.  These are only the known races of course, there may be other races on the other side of Thedas that we know nothing about.  The developers have said quite bluntly there will be no evil intelligent races.

Darkspawn:  This includes both the basic Darkspawn sub-races (haven't seen fex darkspawn, of course), along with tainted humanoids (ghouls) and tainted animals (blight wolves and the like).  There are more options here as of yet.  I'm surprised no blight spiders have been done.

Demons/Spirits:
We've seen all the major types of demon except for hunger.  Also in this catagory are possessed creatures, like abominations, sylvans, corpses, arcane horrors, etc.  There's clearly more options here, as the rock wraiths showed.  As with darkspawn, virtually any natural beast could be possessed.

Beasts:  Includes both the realistic (wolves, bears), the somewhat out-there (giant spiders ahoy) and the really out there (Dragons).  Bioware has said that all beasts will remain unintelligent.  Another thing they have in common is none of them wield magic.  There would be a lot of opening for weird new creatures here - but probably only if we went somewhere with a really different climate.  I like the idea of traveling to Rivain, for example, and having giant reptiles.

The worst part about FFXII was not getting experience or loot from boss-level monsters... I fought Yiazmat for over 8 hours and all I got was a lousy badge... other than that, fantastic game, and one of the best in the series.

But on topic, yeah this game could use some new enemy types, if only for the sake of variety... I mean, you can only fight "bandits" so many times before it just gets dull... the Darkspawn, Broodmothers, and "blighted" animals were a great start, but they aren't really featured in DA2. I'm not really sure what you could add without going too far from the core idea of the series, but I wouldn't mind fighting a hydra or something along those lines...

And some game needs that "Bearataur..." That thing looks like it would own.
