Miranda and Grunt, or Legion and Grunt are best pair in ME2 for me. Miranda helps Grunt become tougher and she is very flexible. Fully upgraded Legion is just awesome.
Who's the most useful squad mate?

Lol! No, but seriously she is useful in ME1...for um....combat. In ME2 I'd have to say Miranda.Son of Illusive Man wrote...

Tali and Legion when you fight synthetics. When you are not fighting machines, Miranda.

I find it situational, dependent mainly on what class and build you're making.
For me, it's Thane, with the bonus to weapon damage. I'm a sniper Adept, and with the sniper rifle upgrades and him having warp, it's sharp-shooting, warp-bombing fun time. I have energy drain, so if I give him the Incisor, we can deal with any sort of enemy.

talis rules vs collectors.
her drone keeps the harbinger busy while i snipe the rest with my anti material rifle.
i wish i could bring liara and her stasis
Stasis doesn't work on Harbinger....have tried it a few times...
I did have fun having Liara and one of my Sheps throw stasis on Vasir like there was no tomorrow.
Liara in ME1
Miranda/Mordin in ME2.
Miranda and Mordin together with a soldier Shep are unstoppable. The baby Terminator reaper never stood a chance.
Thats my Insanity method for bringing Vasir down....

I like using my krogan squad member the most. For both games it's been my Shep, Wrex/Grunt, and Tali.

ME1: Wrex with that Geth armor, armed with either a heavily modified sniper rifle (damage enhancers and Explosive Ammo, etc., that **** is better than a round from the Mako main gun) or a ditto shotgun. He just won't die, and the geth just don't stand a chance.
ME2: It can't be discussed - Miranda is pretty versatile with Warp and Overload. But I can't stand playing with her and her style, so I usually mix my squad up with characters I like. Samara, Grunt, Legion and Thane are all good ones, and IMO they all overpower Miranda and nullify her pesky versatility.

ME1- Tali, because the AI was so bad in that game, your allies never helped you anyway. So why not use a teammate that helps you outside of combat? Shes also the best against synthetics, and you fight a lot of synthetics in ME1.
ME2-Legion. He uses a sniper/AR, has Geth shielding and has a drone.

Tali's combat drone has saved me so many times. Same with Legion. I just have them put drones out, hack some enemies, and then start shooting. The enemies don't even shoot at me. When I'm not fighting geth or mechs, I take them with me anyway because I don't play on insanity and can afford to take the characters I like, versus the characters that are practical.

I don't care. I take the squad members I like. Garrus and Wrex in ME1, Garrus and either Mordin or Legion in ME2, occasionally Jack. I like Miranda and she's probably the most useful, but yeesh, I just get tired of the asscrack.

I was never one for balancing skills. I used garrus and grunt. Garrus was my guy if I needed armor blown away and Grunt was there for barriers. It could take down shields with disrupt. ammo and an smg.
I aslo like tali's combat drone. Most people dont understand that the drone isnt meant to be a damage dealing juggernaut, it just gives you some time to get the enemy off your back and line up a shot.
