I have a visual problem in nwn2 now it used to run fine with no problems then one day poof the odd thing happened.

everything loads up fine and all is well but once you get to playing the screen goes odd in the top left corner it displays everything correctly HOWEVER the rest of the screen just shows the background such as the sky or ocean but no hills trees boxes ect. and in some places it shows only the sky all around so it looks like the entire place is the sky now if you hold Z the highlight usable objects it will show them but just the highlight in the part of the screen that is not working in the top left the display is normal even if you turn the camera (the UI such as the player HP bar and skill bar displays fine)

i got nwn2 platinum on steam i do not know if that matters or not

my system info is as follows any help will be nice

Sounds like the old nVidia graphics driver problem ..

updated drivers from nVidia lately?

( if that's not it, don't have a clue; you've got Dx9c too? )

sorry about being late on the reply but to tell the truth im not sure i know that one of the cards is updated but the problem is because im on a laptop with 2 graphics cards i can not tell if the second one is updated although i know that one of them is. and i think i may have Dx10or11

my confusion is it did work fine for quite a long time then one day all of this

hey Hash, np

uhm, you'll have to dig through your Device Manager or somewhere to find what's with your 2 cards. I noticed that for DriverVersion you'd specified "8.15" - that throws me off 'cause i'm using recent drivers from nVidia and mine says "6.14". But that's not the issue ..

you should be able to just download and install the most recent from nVidia and the installer will do the rest (hopefully both cards are nVidia)

but I don't think that's the issue either (yeh, i'm great with hardware, not)

But i do know you'll need Dx9c specifically. Dx10 & 11 apparently have some files that are *not* backward compatible w/ 9c.

From what i've read here & there, your symptoms (works fine, works fine, works fine .. wtf?) could well be a DirectX issue. Since it's a core component I have to suggest that you read the page in the link above and feel comfortable before installing,

- but i've never heard of it not working, more informed opinions than mine state 9.0c is fully compatible with higher versions.

ps. open a Run dialog from the Start menu and type in dxdiag [Enter] - this should give you a readout on your Dx version ...

Another cause could be that the game is using the wrong card. There's probably a low power card for windows, and a high power card for games and such. I don't know how to tell whichthe game is running from though. But you can probably disable the low power card and try somehow.

i think i found a problem but if its the problem that makes things rather confusing because of the fact that nwn2 used to work but it seems that one of my cards refuses to update and when i try to update it the installer says that the card is not the right one i think this may be because i have 2 cards and it sees one and not the other but i guess i have to talk to nvidia about the cards also i don't use the high power card because it causes my computer to crash its one of them hybrid SLI cards a real pain works great runs stuff amazing for say 10mins then my system just crashes then when i switched to integrated and run nwn like i used to same as above it just fails visually.

also i did go back to Dx9 and it is indeed not that so untill i fix my cards i dont think i will be able to play.

no not overheating that would be simple this is something that makes my brain hurt it is also why i will never buy anything with an SLI card in it ever again.

not really, Did you disable - really Disable - in Device Manager, one vidcard then the other (and the glitch happens with both) ?

I was going to suggest borrowing a vidcard from a friend if you could but if both your video chipsets are doing the same glitch i think the cause is something wonky in the OS, again (it's just barely possible that something went south on your mobo but i'm out of my league & say it just to get ya thinkin in left field ..)

SLI. are there two connected SLI cards (plus a 3rd, integrated chip) - disconnect them, try them in different modes. I'm using two connected GT8500s, and they're good ( but i'm not on a laptop ). .........

it used to work fine: what changed,

yes only one was enabled i did try the SLI in both modes two things though one this issue i have only happens in some maps such as the start of the SOZ module where you are on the ship or the first campaign where you are a harbor man the starting point where you are in the house was fine no problems the town also no problems it was not until the map that kelgar gets in to the fight that i had this issue pop up once inside the inn the display worked again after we left the inn the surrounding area was still messed up and on the next map with the fort also messed up (its at the fort where i rage because i cant see the landscape and get stuck behind some non displayed object) so those are the maps that i know are messed up that is why this issue is really confusing me sorry ab out not saying that beforehand but it only occurred to me last night that it may be helpful (some people wanted me to host a server and i joined them up to a point) that's how i got reminded about only some areas not working.

this is the same nomatter what card i use.

somehow i think i may have made things a bit more complex.

Remove your graphics drivers, reboot, then reinstall them.

could it be a problem with steam perhaps? because i would much prefer not to factory restore because that's a lot of stuff i would have to go re get some 500 gigs of stuff and i don't have an external hard drive

I am so sure this is a driver issue.

No. You say you are reinstalling drivers. You never say you are actually removing the drivers. Ergo, you are not getting a clean install of the drivers. You can do something like this
