Wells - from 1898 - and/or the 1953 movie version by George Pal BECAUSE EVERY MOVIE OR GAME EVER SINCE THEN WITH EVEN REMOTELY SIMILAR LIFE-FORMS, ORGANISMS OR ROBOTIC ENTITIES IS UNORIGINAL! *sarcasm*

But this cuttlefish/insectoid/jellyfish/spider/octopus alien-machine design has been done to death so many times already in movies/comics/cartoons, that it's really just about using the general alien design archetype rather than copying anything specifically. Of course that ain't original either, anyone who sees the Reapers immiedately thinks of tens of aliens/machines from other games/movies/comics.

Alright, I had to Google some images to clarify this. I'd say they were clearly influenced by Gears of War art design ( unfortunately), but they aren't trying to copy it outright, maybe a bit of the convenient visual association we frequently see in games nowadays. They were very much influenced by the gameplay of Gears of War, were they not? So this is fitting. I'm not too concerned. Unless the dev is CDPR, I don't expect a new level of originality.


* I've played a total of about 30 minutes of G.O.W. Not an expert on the lore.

Come on, the amount of time and money this has they have to do better than replicating an old series that's next game is 'going back to it's roots'. You'll be playing one game, and you'll have Master Chief hopping round Scarabs, then you'll go on Mass Effect and have Shepard jumping round Scarabs...

Or the War Machines from War of the Worlds. You know something that is from a book, that was written in 1898...

And don't get me started on how "original" Halo was. Can anyone say "Aliens"?

Hmm.. I DO see the similarities.

Hell look at these creatures with the same angle shots and you would barely tell a difference.

I mean it's not bad per se... but I was hoping for some more originality. They're metal killing machines from space. Try to make them look more other-worldly.

Haha! OP is sure funny. He/she sees four legs, purple coating, and a laser from a Reaper and automatically thinks "Copyright infringement from Halo's Scarab". Reapers in general look much different in size and design than Scarabs.
