Yeah when I first saw promos for ME1 with the mako I thought that ME was just a halo clone. Honestly the only reason I bought ME1 was because I heard from gametrailers that you could have sex with aliens lol.

This. It looks nothing alike.

How odd this communty is why dont I see people compare the end boss to a terminator, only to have lots of people "terminator didnt invent robots."

Exactly my point. I could say Terminator is un-original because they copied Robocop.

No its the opposite.

I said that confusing them.

Let me fix it.

The community is odd, everyone says the reaper is a teminator, a blatant copy. Yet the scarab and reaper are completely different. No its pretty much the same.

Your example isnt as specific, robocop and the terminator are similar (robots), but they dont look the same. They are different enough to not be considered copies.

I have to concede the second I saw the reapers landing in London, in the teaser trailer, I said "Ooh, War Of The Worlds shoutout!"

And then, when I saw the new reaper walkers in the Fall Of Earth trailer, I went, "WOOHOO! They're going back to the source, for their invasion inspiration!"

I find it easier to assume every giant mechanical walker ting, in every film, book or game, EVER, is a WOTW shoutout. I do not have a problem with this, since it was the Jeff Wayne musical version that got me hooked on sci-fi in the first place.

In fact, it made me want ME3 even more... /nerdishness

Hmm... Reapers would pwn Covenant Scarabs, all those Scarabs would do is tickle their kinetic barriers.

And as others have said Halo is not the beginning of sci fi, (and I thought a Scarab was in the first Halo game too):bandit:

Haha! OP is sure funny. He/she sees four legs, purple coating, and a laser from a Reaper and automatically thinks "Copyright infringement from Halo's Scarab". Reapers in general look much different in size and design than Scarabs.

Its not a copy

I disagree way too similar.

I admit, there have been one or two other movies or games set in outer space. Does that make us Un-Orignal?

Of course not. However, is using invertebrates' torso + multiple legs/tentacles for the villains' design (esp. aliens and machines) un-original? Unfortunately yes IMO.

Don't forget everything that came before it too.

The OP is trying to hard.

Also, it's not a reaper, it's Geth, they even say so in the interview...at least in the video I saw (I think it was machinima.com at E3, not sure, I've been watching a lot of interviews lately and the name of the interviewer-network/company isn't my biggest concern).

edit:
BTW: Halo ripped off Half-Life what with their headcrabs and Zombies and all that jazz, even those big dumb things with dreadlocks look exactly like Half Life's Gargantuas only smaller. Then they ripped off Predator with the covenant elites, they are exactly alike. Then they ripped off Aliens with their Marines, they have the exact same armor as in the movies. They also ripped off Lord of the Rings with that huge ass ring they've got going on floating in space, it's an almost exact copy of the one ring. Oh I almost forgot, they totally ripped of Star Wars talking aliens with weird voices.

Ideas are constantly recycled in science fiction. E.g. instantaneous interstellar travel: farcaster network, wormhole gates, mass effect relay network, stargate network, etc.; or super-advanced AI being the main enemy: the Cylons, the Technocore, the Reapers, etc.; or faster than light travel: hyperspace, warp drive, FTL, etc...

For me, what matters is how well they write the characters and tell a good story.

Spider war-machine things are a development of any galactic conqueror. Because after awhile you get bored of killing things with more conventional machines.

Go play Halo 2, drive through the tunnel on the Warthog (which was probably copied -_- ) and pop up onto the street. Get in the tank (which is also probably copied)... and get blown up... run across the rooftops and look down. At that moment the Scarab there (which you have to board and blow up) is the same as the Geth.. thing. It doesn't have tentacle legs like wotw, it's got four mechanical legs, a cannon in its face, and a cannon on its back. I'm just quizzing why the exact same? Why not made it black? Everything looks cooler in black

Have you ever seen troll healthcare? It's terrible. No argument needed.

Journey to the Moon?  Forgot the title.  The one that the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" music video was based on.

Screened it in film class.

Actually trolls heal really well on their own so why would they need health care? Well ok, maybe if they were burned to ashes but then I'd say it's too late...

how else is an alien 4 legged robot supposed to look? you want racing stripes or maybe 5 legs would be enough?

i dont care about being unoriginal. id take the movie avatar over dances with wolves or ferngully, because even tho there essentially the same stories, i liked avatars version the best.

also, if ME3 can steal from gears of war, why cant it steal from halo?

Exactly, it can steal from whatever it wants, and is apparently doing so.

You could, but that'd be silly because Terminator came out in 1984 and Robocop came out in 1987.
