I like the Quarians and the geth but they are total rip off of battlestar galactica,
I like battlestar galactica but they are a total rip of from ... battlestar galactica ( a 1970 series with the same name)
I wouldn't like battlestar galactica ('70's version) because that would make me old but they actually had plagiarisme lawsuits the most famous one are 34 ideas from the star wars universe but it also stole from the 1930 buck rogers series and the movie silent running.
Now I like silent running but... I could go on to 16the century jewish myth abouth the golem and even that story will probably not be original.

That said their is no crime in reusing old stories, the important thing is that they can tell a good story and they manage that.

Well done, fanboys.

Well, when the OP is complaining about something being ripped off from Halo 2 when the basic idea is really 113 years old, there's a lot of fun to be had in exageration and mocking. We have to get our entertainment somewhere, yknow.

except OP never said Halo was the first to do it, and you know that

Right... but they did mention them which then makes Chris Priestly's post all the more correct. Seriously Marsh, you gonna stick up for such a clueless brainfart as the OP? *shakes head in disbelief*

If it makes Mass Effect look bad, Marsh is automatically for it. Rule of thumb.

Yep, boring life when you hang out on a forum for a video game that you hate...

On second thought, that was a bit much.

marshalleck is the only person that seems to gather I didn't mention, nor do I care about what ripped each other off, except the Scarab. The fact is the walker-reaper, and the Halo Scarab, look incredibly alike (if you can't see that you are plain dumb, and part of the BDF), and I mentioned how its almost an exact copy, which it is... and the people saying ones a machine one alive thats why they aren't alike, WHERE did I mention that they had the same characteristics? or the same uses? I just stated they looked very alike, which they do

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mass Effect series supposed one big Shout Out to the Sci-Fi genre in general?

Also, that seems to be one small(in comparison) Reaper. Check out the Escape from Earth Gameplay footage. The Reapers look more like Sovereign in that clip.

I get the impression it's just a case of one specific alternate looking Reaper just happened to have a few similarities with the Scarab(purple, four legs and lazer face). not to say that doesn't make it un-original, but more fuss is being made of this than I think needs to be.

Side note: Scarabs aren't just war machines. They consist of the worm things that make up Hunters. Just more of them.

No you said it's an exact copy and while I agree they do look similar they're not the exact same. Also just because one enemy looks similar to an enemy in another game doesn't mean ME3 is replicating Halo.

Well, then I would tell big reapers are tripods from the War of the Warlds with some aditional legs grown. I don't mind this common thing, because it's hard to design something new in modern science fiction. (BTW tripods attacked London! lol)

Why all the hate? You may not agree with him most of the time, I may not agree with him some of the time yet he still had valid points. One of the more intelligent people on here, I think.

I do think they look similiar. And I do think it matters very little. What else are they going to do? four legs is pretty much the standard for "crawling thing". Just for the record, I think Halo is stupid, but that doesn't make it matter whether they knocked something off if they can pull it off properly. Someone said in here that nothing is original, it's all about presentation. That is very true.

Halo is the greatest video game series of all time, and without it gaming wouldn't be were it is nowadays, best plot I have ever seen (from 1 to 3, wars and reach and ODST is just trying to build on something that peaked and ended)

If anything the four legged reaper looks far more like the four legged walking tanks from Resistance than the scarab from halo 2.

In the end who the hell cares, A reaper is a totally different beast than than the other two.

Halo has no protagonist and no other characters but Arbie. There is nothing in it but PURE combat. That makes it an awful game in my opinion. However, the one thing that really stuck out to me is at the end of three, when Arbie is standing by John's "grave" and says "words so easy." Don't ask me why, but that is the one thing of significance that i liked about the games.

That said, I think the books are fantastic, mostly because the books are about the Halo universe, not big explosions.

But I'm way off topic.

Personally, I see more similarity to Quadraxis from Metroid Prime 2:

Even then, however, there're still a lot of, shall we say "anatomical", differences between all three.

If science fiction wants to be taken more seriously it needs to have giant mechanical spiders as often as possible. "Firefly" could have been so epic.

To be honest it's a matter of opinion and cannot be wrong...

And whoever said the main character is only Arbie... erm, Master Chief!?

I just watched one of the trailers for ME3, and the game looks absolutely amazing and I cannot wait... but, there are giant four legged purple robots with lasers in their heads walking around earth's streets killing people. I'm sorry but the second I saw this the word 'scarab' burned across my brain. This is the EXACT same as Halo 2. They were four legged purple robots with lasers on their heads... you can't just take Covenant aliens and dump them into mass-effect... you just can't, its wrong. Come on, the amount of time and money this has they have to do better than replicating an old series that's next game is 'going back to it's roots'. You'll be playing one game, and you'll have Master Chief hopping round Scarabs, then you'll go on Mass Effect and have Shepard jumping round Scarabs...

Everything created by human imagination is pretty unoriginal and based on something they have seen before in their lives. We are pretty limited when it comes to imagination. Why you think aliens in these games look so much like what we already have in earth and why do they act like humans?

To the OP:
Reapers-
Black
In the shape of a hand with forearm
Fires red laser

Scarab:
Purple
Four legged spider
Fires green laser

Nowhere even close to looking alike, especially since the reapers look like an arm. To those who don't notice, play ME1, and watch Sovereign at the end attach to the tower, it looks like a hand reaching down to grab the tower.

They changed more in ME3, but still similar looking to their ME1 counterpart.
