Sigh @ that picture. I wonder how he has the time to be a marine as he's obviously spending all his time at the gym.
Because as part of the job of being in the military is keeping in shape.

Wow. I'm getting extremely sick with all the comments of, "He looks so gay." Seriously, dudes. That's messed.
I just looked for an "upvote" option for your post, but then I remembered the BSN doesn't have that kind of functionality.
Nothing frustrates me quite like sexuality stereotypes. Nothing. Ugh.
If he's effeminite and lisping, he's gay. If he's built like a tank with a tight shirt, he's gay. Jesus...

I was also under the impression that you couldn't tell if a person was gay from his appearance because gay people tend to look like everyone else. Because they are people.
Two outfits isn't any way to judge a person's personality so I remain neutral to Vega

Finally I must say I like the idea of the tattoo, it doesn't look gay, as I read somewhere... It actually surprises me this is the first human tattoo we'll be seeing on the entire trilogy. Thumbs up for realism to Bioware!
Also, I haven't seen anyone talking about the dog-tags. I really like this small detail. I always wanted my Shep to have them while on the Normandy.

I'm not going to get into a "no, you're wrong" back and forth with you. Let me just say this. Gene Therapy and Gravity Training aside, the human body is very similar to putty, and has a remarkable ability to adapt, and evolve to compensate new environments. His body's proportions aren't even that out of wack at all. If he was something like Gears of War bulky all around, I could say, Maybe, but he's not.Stardusk78 wrote...

Why are people crying "Steroids" all of the sudden. There are plenty ways for humans to get that muscled without the use of steroids, one of them being NOT sitting on a couch playing a video game (Crazy, I know, right?)
You obviously know nothing about bodybuilding and what is naturally possible and what is not.
Why don't you try an experiment. Every time you play a game, and there's a loading screen, do 20 pushups. Do a before and after picture after 2 years.
I have been lifting for over 6 years; I have ****ty genes and there are plenty of people with better genes, sure he might have great ones, but generally people have a distorted idea about what is natural and what is not or what is possible and what is not...
I don't think so at all. If you work hard and take advantage of all the modern advances in sports nutrition, you might see more of an improvement. You can't assume that since your genes aren't what you'd like them to be, growth past a certain point is impossible without drugs.
I think James looks fine the way he is. This game needs marines who actually LOOK like they can take on Krogans, Turians, and other aliens out there. Peronally, I think we have enough small, average looking soilders who probably wouldn't last a minute against a real threat.

Based solely on appearance .....
Positive:
The outfit (casual wear) is cool, his body is a tank and he looks like he has a few scars & tatts.
Negative:
The hair is a little "glee", the nose puggish and the eyes a tad close together.
So a few pros & a few cons on the visual but less cons than I have on my own personal appearance .. so Vega is ahead of the game. And there is a 99% chance that this guy, even if romanceable, will go to the endgame single .. so how he looks in the face is really not an issue ... except maybe for the haircut.
I will reserve overall judgement on the character until Shepard spends time with him on the Normandy & in battle. It will be interesting to see how my different Shepards feel about him.
I hope that he has a sense of humor, interesting past that does not include daddy/mommy issues and enough self-confidence that he does not have a need to sling his .... er, well ... all over the ship. Just one decent, friendly and funny guy would be nice. It would be nice for my Shepard to have one person on board that doesn't come with all the past luggage (ME1/ME2).
Now if he is romancing the VS that would be cool, except to one of my Shepards that's in love with Ash.
Now he would have issues!
Joker: "So what's your decision, Commander? Shall I proceed through the Omega-4 Relay?"
Shepard: "Kill Reapers. Kill Vega ... no, no focus Shepard. Kill Reapers then kill Vega."
Ashley: "What are you mumbling?"
Shepard: "Ash! I didn't hear you ... I was saying 'kill reapers then to Vegas'. Right Joker?"
Ashley: "You two are thinking of gambling at a time like this?"
Joker:

I don't know why people is complaining about the image shown so far. My first impression was: finally, someone (other than Shepard) which looks like a real soldier. I never liked light armors in this game, they look, so, skinny... (and I'm a Kaidan and adept lover). I don't mean they should be a big tank of muscles, but still they are soldiers and are suppose to be the best of the best, so I approve of his body shape. Also, I think this could be the first person I will call a brother of arms for my male shep. Nor Kaidan, nor Jacob completely fulfilled that role. Still I need to meet him, but from his facial expression on the picture and the little background we know I think I might be right.
Finally I must say I like the idea of the tattoo, it doesn't look gay, as I read somewhere... It actually surprises me this is the first human tattoo we'll be seeing on the entire trilogy. Thumbs up for realism to Bioware!

Does it really matter? 3/4 of this forum thinks that they know everything about everything.
Ask them about ME3, and they'll rattle off reasons why characters we have only seen tiny glimpses of are bad characters (Ash and Vega for example). Most of this is based on appearance, but half the members on this forum are so arrogant, they feel they've it all figured out.
Ask them about who their Shepard is, and many of them respond with a "My Shepard is a soldier, therefore (s)he doesn't _____ and ___________ because soldiers are all about professionalism!" *hint hint* Most of them haven't met actual soldiers.
Ask them about the developers, and they rant off reasons why Bioware has gone to the dogs. "Derp, look at Miranda derp look at DAII".
In the end, nobody will be happy until we see these new features, characters, and elements at work. The difference is, the smart people on this board don't go around stating their opinions as fact. The dumb masses, however, troll you until you want to punch something, while remaining completely genuine in their perception. Seriously, I could show everyone on this board a video of James (well, I couldn't, but lets just say I did), and a huge number of people would go "lerp derp herp I'm gonna herp stay with my LI because this guy is OBVIOUSLY a douche bag derp Jersey Shore is a reality for me herp derp"
This guy is one of the few people with brains in these forums, general gaming population as well..
Fact is, what a guy in 2nd page said, the number of douchebags in this thread is just...wow... Makes me feel ashamed that these are the infamous fellow Bioware/ME fans... People are so shallow.
Let me enlighten you kids. 99% of you here have NO idea what it's like to be a soldier, but think and claim you do, just because you've watched something, whether that be a movie or the news. Nor do you have any idea the kind of mental strength it requires for someone to be a GOOD soldier, see so much ****, then be absolutely normal.
A few days ago, over 30 of my brothers in arms died from an accidental explosion in a base near a power plant. Pieces of them flew 3km away from the site. So you tell me smartasses, how exactly can YOU judge that Vega (who knows what he's been through and seen) is a douchebag? Many people look like douchebags, but are awesome guys if you bother looking a bit closer and past appearance.
So do us real fans a favor and shut the **** up.
P.s Sorry for being so aggressive, after 20 pages of this thread I feel completely ashamed of some people here.
p.p.s for the REALLY stupid people here - my point was that some soldiers look like douchebags sometimes, but they're really great people. Grow the fk up already, shallow people.

Why are so many people screaming steroids? What, it isn't possible to get into great shape unless you use drugs? I know plenty of guys this size and even some larger..they just enjoy working out...a lot! LOL
There was a guy in my unit, saw him once in a gym I was trying out when I moved, he was bigger than Vega, a lot bigger I might add... Wouldn't be in my unit if he was using drugs to get more muscle growth. So that reveals most losers in this post to be well.. idiots.
Personally I like where they are going with him. The detail is stunning.

As for Big Ben sniper, I'd totally have him in my team.
