They are referring to Soap Mactavish. Not Captain Price. I think Vega looks just fine IMO.Mesina2 wrote...

He must? Its written in some book? Ashley is also soldier/tank but Bioware went in very unique way with her look. Its very clear to what audience is Vega targeted. Even Bioware doesnt make a secret of their interest in CoD audience.Phaedon wrote...
Vega is a soldier/tank and must look like it. You have no idea what his personality is like.
They look nothing alike.
Also CoD fans really like muscled guys in their games?
wut?

I don't know why people is complaining about the image shown so far. My first impression was: finally, someone (other than Shepard) which looks like a real soldier. I never liked light armors in this game, they look, so, skinny... (and I'm a Kaidan and adept lover). I don't mean they should be a big tank of muscles, but still they are soldiers and are suppose to be the best of the best, so I approve of his body shape. Also, I think this could be the first person I will call a brother of arms for my male shep. Nor Kaidan, nor Jacob completely fulfilled that role. Still I need to meet him, but from his facial expression on the picture and the little background we know I think I might be right.
Finally I must say I like the idea of the tattoo, it doesn't look gay, as I read somewhere... It actually surprises me this is the first human tattoo we'll be seeing on the entire trilogy. Thumbs up for realism to Bioware!
Also, I haven't seen anyone talking about the dog-tags. I really like this small detail. I always wanted my Shep to have them while on the Normandy.
Jack would like a word with you ...
Wow! I really feel embarrased of forgetting her. She even is one of my favourtite squaddies in ME 2. Let's change my post to the first MALE human with tattoos. :innocent: Thanks for pointing it out!

Would you honestly be saying the same thing if a female character was introduced who had features that you consider unattractive? Why can't we have equal opportunity eye candy?
The people who found the female companions in Dragon Age 2 unattractive or imperfect were very quick to be called misogynistic and nothing but hormoned up boys liking boobs and asses and conventionally pretty faces over tastefulness, style and realism.
I loathe double standards.

This. The only reason I was displeased with the initial Isabella screenshot was because her facial features were unnaturally pinched.
Vega's features, however, aren't unnatural. Ergo, I'm happy.

In video games, the ME series included, the unfortunate deep-seated rule is pretty or gtfo. I don't see why Vega should be the exception to that rule, especially if he's the token M/M option. Personally, the Big Ben sniper would be an improvement 100%. No supermodel required, no way.

After Ashley's little makeover, any complaint that Vega is ugly should be valid. It should be a totally reasonable concern. Mind you, I never agreed that Ashley was ugly before the makeover, but she got an undeniable... treatment.

Ashley was fine before the makeover; she's a soldier that shoots geth for a living, just like Vega; and him being the M/M LI(allegedly) shouldn't be an issue. Heck, him not being a posterboy would be a breath of fresh air for me after all the pretty boys I've had to work with.

The resemblance Vega has to someone I knew almost disturbs me... they have that same nose... hair... general facial structure...
same here, reminds me of my first long term boyfriend (long long time ago)... and he was a p**ck. I don't think Vega is going to be a favourite of mine.

I suppose the generic, buff physique/tribal tatoo, perfectly bonestructured, douchy look is designed to appeal to the ladies, just like us guys got Miranda, the generic australian babe with the flawless bum and perfect, buyoant tanks to boot
I'm curious how this wandering, cardboard-cut cliché looking stereotype will play out in ME3. I gotta say, though, that my first impression is that Bioware accidentally aquired a cast member from jersey shore (that wonderful example of how far humanity has progressed culturally), while the real james vega is running around a beach house filming the next season, not really sure what the hell he is doing there.

Every time I come here, I just want to face-sun, to the ridiculous reactions people have. :Oh he has muscles, that's makes him a meathead douchebag" This comes off as straight up nerd insecurity, like the guy is going to be throwing you against lockers or something. This is why BioWare should never listen to their audience.
Some of us are hoping he will throw us against some lockers.

I don't get why this guy gets so much hate outside of the apparent dudebroification of the series that people seemingly fear of Mass Effect, when it's kinda already there. Can there not be a muscular character created this gen that's not going to be considered a dudebro? It must be a terrible job to be a character designer in this current generational climate. I half believe that if this guy was some blonde haired twig with a headband and a leather outfit with belts and zippers on it, with a rainbow hair barrette, and some beads in his hair, or some ****, he would be more well received than this guy. It seemed like Jack was more well received than this guy and she is straight up embarrassing character design.
I'd still bet this guy is going to be gay to troll the dudebros the marketing for Mass Effect seems to cater to, though.

lol OK well there's that.MACharlie1 wrote...Some of us are hoping he will throw us against some lockers.
^Your right, it must suck for character designers these days, since everything has to be compartmentalized, if he was a guy with long hair and slump in his shoulder its "Oh he's emo" If he is a normal looking guy with no real defining characteristics its "Oh he's bland like Jacob" Its a no win situation, from first look the character is going to be generalized and their personalities long before word one said is by them. Did people not think that all their whining about general looking guys like Jacob and Kaiden is why this character was designed to stand out? And of course he cant be a regular nice guy, that would be boring, he has to be an absolute head case, Then we is, everyone hates him, its a no win.

I thought slapping kittens all over him would make people accept him more, but it didn't work on everyone.
I find it interesting how the complaints are he's cliche looking or he's ugly looking. Then people try to make him look handsome and like Sheploo who looks like 90% of the lead males in video games.
People need to stop judging by appearances and just wait till we find out what this guy is like when the game comes out. Maybe we'll be lucky and see a trailer for him before the games release.
