Eh either way, I believe there need to be restrictions in games so I'm not budging on the gender mattering in character interest (it should matter to some characters and others it shouldn't though). At this point (3rd game of trilogy) it's to late to have characters realize they're bi or finally admit they're bi IMO. Let's agree to disagree and leave it at that.
There are restrictions...some characters are not designed to be LIs and turn you down no matter what.
Some are LIs...and they go unrestricted in everything besides gender (until DA2). Do you understand my frustration with that? XD If LIs are going to be open...open them up to gender as well. This has nothing to do with politics, just 'game play options'.
However, I will reiterate that they probably won't make all the past ME LIs bi due to resource restrictions.

Of course not. They just try to satisfy as many as possible given their budget/time limits.

I don't get this why is people so fix about the characters sexual orientation. It's like hey that person is walking let's bang him/her.
People (both those that want s/s and o/s romances) just want to bang their fave person.

I don't know why...there are differing explanations for that.
Apparently, they didn't add s/s content to ME2 b/c they wanted to keep the game 'PG-13' and more family oriented...

2) Why is sexuality diversity so important?

Hey, I actually want OTHER people to bang their fave person!!
No, really, I want as much content as possible in my games whether or not I'll personally ever play it. And when it comes to romance, I am all for the all bisexual model because that gives players the most freedom of choice.

Don't forget that Femshep/Liara is not a lesbian romance. Even though they're both females.<_<

For some people, the fact that it is more exclusive (ie. not everyone will play it) makes it more appeling. It's the same mentality behind exclusive memberships and clubs, that the fact that only a limit of people will experience it makes it all the more richer.
Or to put it in another way, limiting a character's romance scope makes it more "unique" and thus the people who "get" to experience it stand apart form others among their "people."

It's kind of a downer to know that the romance content for <character X> is already included in game, but you can't access it just because of a gender check, especially when considering that there's no other 'realistic' checks on the romance.
It's true. Gender is overwhelmingly the sole variable that either activates or denies a romance. Shouldn't be that way,
because all else considered, I was hardly convinced any romance happened for any reason outside Shepard wanting it to happen. And (non-gay) Shepard gets what (s)he wants, don't ya know?

In DA2, gay PCs had as many choices as straight ones and I think that's a big deal for us and it sets the gay PC on equal footing to the straight one.
Interesting. Do the ****** scenes recycle from the hetero scenes, just the same but swapping voices and character models? Or are they distinct and refined?

Agreed. Too many bipeds by far! Too many bipeds with breasts and/or hips and/or broad shoulders by far! BioWare should have been brave enough to make asari look like elcor and the whole not enough/too much ******/bi/heterosexual LI argument would have been moot. Once you go monogendered, non-human you never go back...Caythark wrote...

On the other hand, being able to define your Shepard's gender and sexual orientation at startup would have been just as cool if you were thus able to turn down hetero advances with your gay Shepard (or vice versa), or simply have potential LIs simply turn you down. Cry me a river that your favourite character will never be your LI, it's far more realistic than every single character in ME3 being Shepard-sexual (swoons and all).

It comes down to this...we play the game and really like <character X> and we want to get to know <character X> better...especially if they are an LI. We want to romance the <character X> LI just like others already are doing...but we want to do it with our idealized version of 'Shepard', which may be based on ourselves or on a character we've created and have grown attached to (which would explain why straight people want to do s/s romances as well).
It's kind of a downer to know that the romance content for <character X> is already included in game, but you can't access it just because of a gender check, especially when considering that there's no other 'realistic' checks on the romance.
Some tend to misconstrue this issue as something greater than that when it's not. People simply really like a character and connect with them and want them to be 'their' Shepard's LI...period. They want the same freedom to pick their LI as some others have and already enjoy.
I would like the option to romance EDI or Aveline from DA2, but guess what, it's not happening(nor should it). Just because you want something that doesn't mean you get it. No matter what anyone says, the DA/JE method is best, some are straight, some are bi and maybe in tfuture games, bio will have a gay only character. Everyone is happy and characters aren't reduced to love dolls for fanatics.
Bio is already putting to greater focus on such an insignificant part of a game and it's threads like this that are a reason for it. There shouldn't even be any new romances in ME3.
jlb524 wrote...
However, given the mechanics of adding it in and the fact that most don't even play through it, I can't see a good argument for limiting it based only on gender. If you do...please let me know.
- Waste of resources
- Not in character
- Breaks 'immersion'
- Shows the writers have no respect for their work
And how would you feel if the most attractive/awesome female was gay only? And the straight/bisexual options totally sucked?
Would, you know 'move on'. Not run to the forums saying that bio didn't give me a choice. Because they did. And a huge majority would do the same, it's just a vocal small minority that would bring it up. When hand is waved to shoehorn romance for everyone the effect and often the quality is lessened.
