Hmmmm....I am so conflicted whether I should get Dishonored or XCOM or neither next week. Both Dishonored and XCOM look great but I have such a backlog I know I won't get around to Dishonored or XCOM anytime soon. I'll probably just wait and read impressions in any event.
It's going to be an instant classic. Join us day one. Anyways, this game and studio deserve support.

I am so looking forward to going for these two achievements ..
1) Shadow: You completed all missions after the prologue without alerting anyone
2) Clean Hands: You completed the game without killing anyone

I avoided most almost all the article, but I saw the words "story-driven rpg". Interesting perception...

Nice quote with which I concur:
"That’s why Dishonored is important right now. It feels like a game from another timeline, one where Thief and System Shock set the bar for what first-person games could be, leading to designs that were built around intelligent use of space and world-building. "
Please game gods let this be popular.

The Media Cows have started releasing Early Playthroughs, and it's looking quite impressive. The introduction seems to take inspiration from BioShock's introductory reveal of rapture. So far, so good. Slight Language Warning on the playthrough, just B-words.

I will surely get this game once I play retaliation, and it looks really promissing story wise, but it's not very suitable for action oriented player, taking an single slash from an sword on normal can take about 1/4 of your health, and since it uses an health bar, it's better to keep stealthy.

Plus, the fact that it's published by Bethesda doesn't win it any favors in my book.(I've declared a bit of a Jihaad on them after Skyrim.)
That aside, it looks interesting and new, which is a plus, and I may consider picking it up after I've seen a bit more player feedback.
Til then; XCOM.

22 hours isn't short:
http://vgtoday.net/2...rs-of-gameplay/
In fact that length sounds just about right. I'd imagine a "destructive" playthrough would be quicker though but the fact that missions have multiple ways to for the player to beat them adds to the replay value and if the city in the game is anything like the City in Thief (i.e we get to roam it freely doing what we want) then there's bound to be lots of fun to have.
(I did just see a review with the reviewer saying it took him six hours to beat Dishonored but maybe he didn't explore everything and rushed through the game. Who knows? Maybe that developer above is lying about the length but I guess we'll know for sure when the game releases. I've only seen one review mentioning a short length and that's the one below.)
Totally agree on your point about Bethesda hence why I'll be waiting for this game to price-drop before I pick it up. I too will also be looking to see what users think of it. Also I have a few unfinished games to finish so there's no point me adding yet another game to that collection.
Edit:
Supposedly DLC is already on its way:
"If 6-12 hours isn’t enough for you to justify a purchase, provided that you’re not a fan of replaying things or tracking down every last trinket, there’s also DLC on the way (at least, the main menu indicates this) — which, given the mission-based format and replayability of the game, will lend itself very well to Dishonored."

Maybe a buy next year when the GOTY edition comes out? I have no rush to buy the game and I have no doubts that Bethesda will be all over Dishonored milking it.

Oh, well then I was misinformed. 20 Hours is plenty of game for $60.
As for the "Does Not Compute" thing, Yes It Does, I'm just not going to get into it here. I have plenty of great reasons to hate what Bethesda has become, but this is not the place.
I'll definitely check this out later though. It's an original game in a sea of copies.

so Corvo a specific person like Witcher 2? Or can we customize them like Shepard?
The protagonist is not customizable, other than the ability progression path, gadgets and weapons you choose along the way. This is not really an RPG, more of an action stealth game along the lines of Deus Ex.

I'm tempted, but 22 hrs..I dunno. Truth is Arkham City's core campaign is around that long and I didn't feel gypped in the least. If it's an RPG I definitely want something longer, but this is more of an action game I suppose. It's got some very solid reviews behind it.
This Rock, Paper, Shotgun article gets to the point with Dishonored's length:
But there is one complaint that may reach a crescendo in short order, and that is the issue of length. For me, Dishonored was a deliciously long game, clocking in at about 25 hours even without the total replay I intend on having very soon. For someone else – someone who has a lot of numbers in the name they use when playing Halo 4, say – it will be insultingly short. It may not even make a double figures quantity of hours. That’s not the game’s fault, it’s theirs (or, perhaps, the fault of the marketeers who sold the game as an action opus). They gobbled the onion up whole, too greedy or too lazy or too accustomed to inflexible fare to peel apart its layers.
Basically, if you just rush through the game it'll be crazy short. If you take your time to explore and experiment, it'll last north of 20 hours. Which is about how long I put into Deus Ex: Human Revolution for one playthrough, so that seems fine to me.
Also, some fine gifs:

Even Arkane don't see it as an rpg, if you find some early interviews with them they talk about how they moved their games away from being rpgs after Arx Fatalis.
