New info coming soon on Dishonored...from Arkane Studios and Bethesda

I have begun to fall for the game, having realized that the multitude of reviewers calling it wholly original and unlike any other were Idiots. To me, while not as good as Bioshock, Dishonored is in the same subgenre of "**** the Norm, let's do what WE want to do." Which needs to be expanded upon more.
I still wish the writing was better, but hey, in video games, spending 2 days working on the plot gets you the same score as focusing on it.

So, I've started up again, really trying to get into it, and I have to really ask; When does the Amazing, Incredible GOTY Stuff begin? I honestly would like to know, preferably from someone who isn't in the "Bethesda Games Are All Flawless Masterpieces And Never Overrated In The Slightest" mindset and can provide some objectivity.
I'm far into the 2nd Mission and this game has gone from alright to down right boring. When does it get good?
Could be it's not your cup of tea. I'll be more than happy to defend it as one of the better PC ports I've played in a long time, and I'm very picky about that sort of thing. The presentation and the game mechanics are quality. Controls are sharp, the journal entries have better writting than most action games can muster.

I'm sorry, but is there a case of "Illiteracy" going around or are we all just being fanboys with selective reading disorder?

I had no idea that Air Assassination negated fall damage, so I just had the coolest accident ever by falling off a sentry tower and ganking a overseer.

The writing doesn't blow me away, but it's all quality and clever enough that I can still appreciate it. There is more to the mythology than I was expecting. I'm a little worried for Corvo, with all the codex on the Outsider and the cost of occult use. What I like better about this game than Thief is that the struggle is more personal. Don't spoil me if it's not true, but thus far I still firmly believe that Corvo is Emily's father and there's probably quite a story to how he ended up as the empress' bodyguard. The flirtatious maid saying that he has a noble bearing makes me think up sappy back story about how he gave up an aristocrat's life to be a bodyguard so he could be near the empress. /fluff
I'm a little surprised that there are not more powers available. I would like something like a ghost ability, but I suppose they thought this could make the game too easy since it would negate having to practice stealth skill.

Ha! Just finished the game! What an awesome ride. The last two hours were pure supressed rage against the endboss.

I still ask myself: Is Corvo Emilys father? At first I thought not, but Emilys "Daddy" drawing, the rumors the Admiral heard and wrote down in his journal and the fact that Corvo and the Empress, imho, definitely had a "more than just a bodyguard" vibe going on are slowly changing my opinion.
Well it remains a mystery

I like the whale charms that give boost to mana, the one that gives mana a chance of filling along side health when taking a Sokolov health potion, and mana regen at water fountains. Although the last one I only equip when I want fill up my mana in front of a fountain.
I'm coming up on mission 4. I've already booked 15-20 hours. This playthrough will be prob right around 35-40 hours.
And every once in a while, when piano cords play at parts, I get Fallout 3 flashbacks....

And you become very strong with bonecharms and runes after a while. Time Stop and extended Blink are cheats...
Edit: Also boot upgrades for moving silenty really makes stealthplay too easy, you can sprint without making anysound.

BUT...
I've fallen in love with this game.
The gameplay is amazing. Choices matter.
City feels real and believable, as do the characters.
VO is fantastically done, and while the graphics aren't exactly Skyrim-quality, the art design makes up for it.
My Game of the Year so far, on any platform (assuming we still count Dark Souls as 2011).

She even buries Corvo next to her Mom. Dawwww
So... anybody else finished the game? I would like to know which ending you people got aka how many people you murdered and why.
Just four in my playthrough.
- Mercy killed Campbell when I found him in the Flooded District as a Weeper.
- Killed Daud for killing the Empress. I thought I would feel no remorse about it but I couldn't help to respect the man after hearing his regret monologue and the fact that he died like a boss.
- Granny Rags. Crazy old lady tried to cook my buddy Slackjaw.
- Havelock. Good lord Havelock. I went old testamentaric on him. Eye for an Eye. I thought it was poetic justice, after he killed Wallace and Lydia with his cutlass and pistol, that Corvo finished him with a stab to the arm and a shot to his face with the same pistol he used to murder his loyal servants. Rewarded as a traitor deserves.
Pendleton and Martin would have been number five and six, but Havelock was faster than me. Spoilsport.
So I ended up with the Low Chaos ending. All Hail Empress Emily the Wise!
Oh... and am I the only one that thinks that some of the "non-lethal" methods to get rid of the target are actually worse than just killing them? Especially Lady Boyle!

I agree, Corvo's struggle feels personal and I'm really liking the relationship between him and Emily.
Yesterday I finished the fourth mission and, after the usual rest, Emily woke up Corvo and asked to stay in his bedroom while (don't remember her name) was taking a bath. What I really liked about that scene was that on Corvo's table there was now a drawing from Emily saying "Daddy".
Anyway: so far I'm impressed. Last night I had to replay one mission because somehow it said that I killed a civilian and I tried a different stealthy path. I'm glad that even without powers (yes, I'm trying to make things as hard as possible) there was at least another totally doable path that I didn't try before.
The tricky part for me is to find a safe place to hide the bodies: not only they cannot be seen by other guards, but I also have to avoid getting them killed. I think I'm speding half the time carrying bodies left and right...

Ifinished without killing anyone and getting detected once and yes nearly all of non-lethal solitons are worse than death. I loved what Slawjak have done to twins
I just want to be "the good guy" for this time (and to get some achivments
Best part is you get rewards for most of the non-lethals afterwards.

So, for my post-game verdict, I must firstly say that the game is amazing and that I'm quite pleased with the ending I got - but that while the gameplay was very open and entertaining, the game was more than a little restrictive in terms customisation for a non-lethal approach. (From what I've seen the main plot is also rather static, although the chaos-related consequences in regards to end-game/character development are nice).
Obviously the game isn't exactly set out to be an 'rpg', so customisation is always going to be more gameplay oriented rather than stats-wise or interactions-wise - but limiting the available 'loot' (for lack of a better word), to just runes, bone charms, and money does in turn limit the incentive to explore the entire map (rather than just completing objectives).
Despite that, I did do a rather thorough playthrough and picked up every single collectible, read every book/note, saved everyone that needed to be saved, and cleaned out most of the available money - although I never ended up using half of my runes, bone charms or money (I had ~14k left over at the end). This may be partly due to my non-lethal approach making most of the upgrades useless though.
While the general plot-line might not change all that much (outside end-game/consequences) and was probably more than a little predictable, I did enjoy the character development that your compatriots undergo. The diverse range of dialogue (and diary/memoir things) really helped create a believable world/society and helped ground your role in things. The level of detail in the world in terms of interactions/encounters and notes etc at the corners of the maps also helped in terms of immersion.
I'm not sure If I want to finish off my high chaos stealth playthrough (I don't like bad endings), but I think I might muck around with a more combative non-stealth approach - I still haven't got anyone to shoot themselves yet haha.
On another note, I'm listening to the credits song on repeat now. It perfectly fits the mood of the game (probably because it was composed for the game..)

I used it quite a bit.. I'm a little bit obsessive when it comes to finding collectibles and I kinda liked the sound of her voice.
It only says around 3-6 or so statements related to the mission/area you're in or about the character's backstory/hidden inner turmoil. It also will randomly say things related to who she used to be.. which together with several other clues leads to an interesting realisation (which I kinda suspected from the moment I heard peiro's conjecture on the link between the heart and spirit)
It doesn't seem to update that much, so there's no need to use the heart on your fellow conspirators/area map more than a few times, and it cycles through a generic list for most guards/npcs etc.

Same for me, though most of the information i've gathered through the heart hasn't been particularly helpful.
Anyway, look at this

I mean, Emy doesn't become a psychotic, cloak and dagger despot just because her Assassin Dad is a whirlwind of arcane destruction, which is what would totally happen.
Also, Sam said that I was the worst of all of them and told me to get off his boat, so without hesitation, I pegged him in the eye with a crossbow bolt, and then reflected for half a moment on what a psychopath my quest for revenge had made me.
After that, I rewired a sentry tower and windblasted a guy against a crate so hard, he exploded on impact.

I pull the heart out to look at runes and charms, but I heard using it affects the ending. If I'm still high chaos after this mission I'm going to finish it bloody.
On the Boyle mission now.
AFAIK only the chaos rating influences the ending. I used the heart so much I should have noticed something

Yep right below
It is heavily implied that the heart is from the dead Empress herself. Numerous signs of that throughout the game
(Her spirit being "restless", the heart's remarks about being a fool for trusting the Spymaster once or when pointing it at Daud etc.)
The Outsider sure has a twisted sense of humour
