Considering I enjoyed being in the military (82nd Airborne) and my MOS was 11B2P (infantry) I would join up in a second. However, much like Jacob I would grow disillusioned and while he joined Cerberus I would join up with a merc outfit.

And for the people who say killing is hard it isn't. You are trained to the point that you no longer see a person in your sights but a target. Plus when you dehumanize your enemy (e.g. we called Iraqis all kinds of slurs, referred to them as dogs, everything but a person) it makes it mentally and pyschologicaly easier.

Heck no! I've been in the military before; I know for a fact that I'm not cut out to be one. Photobomb's comment above me illustrates why perfectly.

Besides, as Joker put it... "Man, what I wouldn't give to go planetside. Wading through muck, getting shot in the face. Yeah, that is the life!" Wars are dangerous. I'll stick to a logistical/tech division back at HQ. Like Ochren.

This is a strange question. Militaries in the ME universe work the same as they do in real life, so the question is basically "would you join a military."

Also, this strikes me as one of these topics where alot of people might say yes, but then they would wash out early on in the training. Think about it, not only do you have the extreme physical fitness requirements (probably more so because you might have to operate in higher gravity environments), you also probably have some high-level astronaut stuff (zero gravity, high gravity, space suits) and hazardous environment stuff to train in. Alliance Marines are basically astronauts, after all.

To answer, no. I'd probably be some sort of civil servant or intelligence analyst for the Alliance, seeing as I did a degree in a relevent field (International Relations).

Of course not. Why to hell I would want to go for war zones.

Nope, wars are stupid and unjustified,

Tell that to the aggressive neighbors who've decided to go around kicking in doors and taking over your city. Or, in the ME context, tell that to the Reapers who are content with nothing short of extinction of your species.

Pacifism will only get you victimized.

Self defense is not war, war is business...

I´d like to be a colonist, a farmer maybe, and taking almost all the time studying all about the cultures of the galaxy :D

Well most wars are not unjustified, stupid maybe, but not unjustified.  I agree with the rest of your post though.   Maybe an anthropologist of sorts or a philosopher, that would be fun.

I don´t clearly see any justified war, people always bring WWII as an example, they think that going to war was the solution, yeah sure meantime the leaders and elitist were selling resources to each side, axis selling to allies, and allies selling to axis, they really hated each other.

me
too. i couldnt point a gun at someone and pull the trigger. itd be
impossible for me. id end up dieing becasue i pussed out on killing them
first.

It's more the discipline, hierarchy, and
taking orders thing I don't do well at. I'm much more productive in an
unstructured 'peer to peer' non-heirarchical environment where everyone
can give and receive input on attaining a goal. A 21st century model of
cooperation as it were.

If I were on Earth and Reapers started
invading, I think I'd have no problem blowing away husks. I'd just do it
as part of an irregular militia, is all.

your a damn commie ../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png

Possibly, though joining the military at the time of extragalactic invasion wouldn't be the best idea.

Would you rather have:
A. a Stick.
or
B. a Gun
when the husks come to gooify you into a new reaper?

I guess the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force should read this thread to get an idea of how to style their 2012 recruitment program lol.

Already joined the military, so I would probably join in the ME universe as well. I would probably serve one stint and then join a colonial militia.

I already applied to be a Marine officer IRL, so without a doubt I'd join the Alliance military as well.

I don't understand how you can think that combat then isn't going to be raw, did you see the scene where Eden Prime was attacked. Don't think tech/biotic skills or barriers helped them soldiers on there that got huskified, do you? :P

As to the question, nah, I'd be on the Citadel helping Chorban and Jaheed try get info from the Keepers, being the tech geek that I am :D

No amount of technology will change war. When you look around and see your friends' body parts blown everywhere, you'd react the same way as a soldier in WW1 did.

This.

Rome: Swords, mail armor, shields, spears, bows, horses, charriots

7 Years War: Muskets, bayonets, pistols, swords, horses, cannons

WW1: Bolt-action rifles, bayonets, grenades Biplains, machine-guns, Mortars/howizers, tanks

Modern: Automatic Rifles, kevlar armor, machine-guns, fighter jets, bombers, cruise missles, UAVs.

Just because technology advances does not make war any less 'raw'. If anything, it makes life for an infantryman more difficult the more technology develops.
