OS: Windows 7 x64
Game version: v1.02, physical disk
RAM: 4 GB
Processor: i5-2500k
GPU: Radeon HD 6950
Sound: ATI HDMI output
All drivers are up to date as of this morning
No other game has this problem, including ME2

So I'm having the apparently common problem of not having 5.1 sound. I've tried multiple fixes, including:

- Setting the sound device to hardware or software in the config utility
- Disabling all sound device besides the HDMI output
- Altering the BioEngine.ini file to mess with the number of channels, device names, etc.
- Setting speaker configuration to quadrophonic instead of 5.1

ME shows the HDMI output as the sound device in the log file, but it only loads "Generic Software", never hardware. I obviously need it to use hardware so I can have surround.

Anyone with a more recent card like mine have a fix for this?

Best advice I can give is try the tweaks listed in the following thread.
http://social.biowar...1/index/7389137

Note, when following step 5 in the initial post, that will make the setup display it is running the software driver, when the rest of the settings are actually getting it to use the hardware resources.

Surround sound is only supported on EAX compatible sound cards, like Creative's Sound Blasters, and require some tweaking in config files. The built-in sound chipsets of AMD GPUs don't support EAX.
