Can Reave and Warp co-exist in the same build without being redundant?

I've been thinking of a "Reaver" Adept build:

Unstable Warp
Heavy Throw
Heavy Singularity
Pull (1)
Nemesis/Bastion
Reave (Heavy or Area)

Using Reave as my main damage-dealer against protections, a viable CC power, and a health boost (to play more aggressively). Warp would be relegated to Warpsplosions only, which is what it's best at anyway, and that's why I chose Unstable Warp. The rest of the build is nothing special, although I am at a loss for which passive evolution to take, as Reave benefits from both.

They can coexist, but not without a great deal of redundancy.

The question is then if you want to try this build for fun or you want to optimize your build. If you want to optimize, I'd replace Reave with Stasis, 1 point. Then I'd get Heavy Warp instead of Unstable Warp and evolve Pull to Pull Field.

Actually, I think I'd grab Heavy Warp in any case. Unstable Warp is only really better for Warp explosions if you need a bigger radius. Often that's not the case.

With the GPS it is really viable, but I don't like to use DLC stuff(personal house rules). However Stasis/Barrier will increase your pace by pretty much the same while being more specialized and not overlapped with Warp. I would say Energy Drain is better for the style you're going after, but it is a lore breaker if you're into RP.

The only way that I can see Reave being superior to Warp is by way of stripping defenses from multiple enemies instead of just one. Otherwise, Warp is superior. The only reason I see to take both is for Husk missions, but there are so few missions where you encounter them that it would be better to simply being along Mordin and/or Samara (or Kasumi, since Flashbang Grenades sometimes kill protected husks) and use their area armor stripping abilities instead.

If you're interested in the health regen, then you're probably going to get better mileage out of Energy Drain, since the majority of enemies on Hardcore/Insanity have shields, and you get more out of restoring shields than health (due to the short damage immunity that happens when shields drop).

You should also note that Reave receives the 20% duration penalty on Insanity, so it will do significantly less damage against enemies (one of the reasons Samara's Area Reave doesn't strip armor from Husks in a single use) if that's the difficulty you are playing at.

But it also receives a 20% buff from research. Don't worry about that part. We were discussing Reave on the forums a while ago, and the conclusion was that the damage done against defenses doesn't seem to be reduced against larger enemies either, only the duration of the stun and the damage against health (because the duration damage is turned into instant damage against defenses). I'm also speaking from personal experience when I say Reave is fine on insanity. But it does overlap a lot with Warp.

The two of you have a very good point about Energy Drain. If you really wanted a new anti-defense tool for your adept, this would be a far superior choice for an adept.

I'm not looking for pure optimization...I've played through ME1 and ME2 multiple times, and I'm just playing around with different ideas, trying out different powers and combinations that I haven't played with before. I'll probably be playing on Hardcore, because I enjoy the strategy required without the extra hassle of Insanity.

I was just checking out opinions because I was trying to fit together an Adept that would be similar to Samara's skillset, an aggressive and offensive-type Adept that used Reave because I've never tried it out before. I think, lore-wise, that Reave is kind of a goofy power, but I know a lot of people recommend it as one of the best bonus powers around and I want to at least give it a shot.

Not an adept but I respected a Sentinel I am currently trying to get through the game to have both heavy warp and Area Reave. So far I think I like Reave better in the average use than warp, and the area version is sweet. So I really can't think of any reason both wouldn't work on an adept as well. Sure they overlap but they each have a sweet spot of use that makes them compatible to be together as well. I must say with heavy singularity on the ground and an area reave cast on husks would make it an incredible husk killing machine.
