The difficulty would be intergrating space and land battles, since orbital superiority is pretty much the deal-breaker in any land engagement. If switching between the two was kept fluid and relatively seamless, I'm all for it.
Empire at War did a pretty good job of this IMO.

Seriously, I'm 100% certain that a Mass Effect RTS has more potential than a Mass Effect MMO.

Unfortunately not so from the financial side of things. I think an MMO is inevitable, but I would like to see an RTS spin-off.

bioware wouldn't make a product that competes with their own product. (mmos)

Exactly, they already have an epic Sci-Fi MMO [sw:tor] in production, they is just like Mass Effect. Why go through it all over again for a MMO of the same Genre. The Old Republic features: Full Voice Acting, Squademates, menuvering/cover, Spacebattle, and force manipulation (the force is basically the same thing as Biotics), the only real differance this game is from mass effect is that it's an MMO, and the story is different.
So yeah.... Mass Effect RTS FTW. Also, somebody needs to tell bioware about this:D

There are already too many MMO's out there. Add BioWare's own Star Wars The Old Republic MMO to the list and i think the top-ranking MMO's is already filled. A Mass Effect MMO has little chance to become succesful. It will have to compete against World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Aeion, Line Age 2 and last but not least: EVE online.
Especially EVE is a big competitor here. I think BioWar's Star Wars MMO has a good chance against EVE and WoW because it carries the name Star Wars. But a Mass Effect MMO? Nahhhh, I don't see that happening.

It feels more in-line with massing armies and resource management in my mind.
Of course, I'm not suggesting either franchise abandon their respective genres for the RTS.

a dragon age RTS would be fun but a space, land based RTS would be better:devil:

Sounds too busy. Unless it's a StarCraft clone, which did space RTS the best (same with StarCraft 2 which is the best RTS around).
Empire at War with the zooming around the battlefield and Supreme Commander which was similar...too busy. Chess isn't better by adding more pieces and extra boards. I like the focus of the StarCraft type RTS.

You know what I've always wanted in an RTS? For it to play like a normal RTS, but have the ability to jump into the cockpit/eyes view and manually control any one unit directly like a FPS/TPS.
The games skirmish AI (which most all RTS's have) could take over control of your army while you pilot the unit. You could jump back to commanding all your units whenever you want (or when the one your piloting is destroyed) and jump into any other of your units at any time.
Homeworld:Cataclysm had a feature where you could see through the ships cockpits, but didn't have dedicated controls for this mode. In a ground based RTS like say rachni wars, it could switch to FPS controls or something. Sure would make controlling epic/hero units more interesting, plus it'd be neat to pick out which unit you opponent is controlling at any given time based on their behavior.
Just some ideas in case your listening Bioware, since your so into genre blending these days.

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite idea in this thread.

No Civilization was never an RTS. Civilization is turn based, so it's a TURN-BASED STRATEGY (TBS). Not the same as RTS, which is REAL-TIME STRATEGY.

I figure if they did an RTS for Mass Effect that it would/should be similar to Sins of a Solar Empire, only with a more structured campaign mode, and a larger focus on combat. I've always thought the First Contact War, Rachni Wars, and Krogan Rebellion would be pretty cool scenarios to see played out in a ME style RTS.
While the First Contact War could work with Sins of a Solar Empire-like gameplay, I doubt the Rachni War and Krogan Rebellion could work like that. If I'm not mistaken, most of the Rachni and Krogan battles where fought on land, not in space.

That would be fan-****ing-tastic. However, I would like to see ground combat in the universe as well, so if they could somehow wing a crossing of SoaSE and Empire At War, that could be one of the best RTS's of all time.

Brilliant!
Unlike the other two systems you aren't breaking the format, you're picking a completely different genre and using the strength of the established universe to guide the campaign. I like.
Batarian conflict anyone? That was pretty vicious.

An MMO is not a terrible idea, I can easily see mass effect fitting into an MMO, but I don't think Bioware would do one for awhile with SWTOR and what not...
