Cannot "freedom" an imprisoned NPC?

I have a few mods installed, so that may be the issue, but none of them should affect the normal function of spells. My problem is that when one of my party (played by another human on a network game) is imprisoned by, say, a Lich, I cannot cast "freedom" afterward to bring them back. I cast the spell and nothing happens. It's like the npc was completely destroyed instead.

Is this normal? Any way around it? Thanks.

I don't recall any problems with the spell but I have never played on a network.

Probably player-controlled characters are just destroyed. Try getting them to imprison a local computer-controlled character, and then see if they resurrect after casting Freedom.

If they do, then that's what it is (multiplayer characters don't survive Imprisonment). If it doesn't work at all, then you must be getting funk from somewhere.

Cast Spell Immunity: Abjuration (or whatever school Imprisonment was), or only let them melee the lich if they have immunity to Imprisonment (from Enrage or Barbarian Rage or whatever). You could also get some Protection from Magic scrolls, but it may be a waste to use them for a lich.
