I never really missed Bethany, but I missed Carver so much after the Grey Wardens took him that I actually jumped up and did a dance when I saw him during the fight with the Qunari.
You missed Carver? I mean yeah, he had more depth than Bethany, but I swear if I had to hear him **** one more time about "being in my shadow."

Ohhh god, THANK YOU. Carver made me want to punch him every time he opened his mouth...I'm doing another playthrough right now and trying SO hard to make his friendship rating go up which is practically impossible unless you want to side with Templars and cry about mages in every quest. His rivalry also starts so high that it just sucks trying to bring it up. I'm not sure if he even really acts different at a higher friendship rating though, I'm sure his responses are basically the same for the end of the game.
It sucks since I prefer being a mage with DA2's whole mage/templar thing but Bethany seems so much cooler.

Her banters with Isabela were hilarious, and I find Anders tiresome.

This is the -best- part of Carver. If you have a younger or heck, even an older brother, he hits home on the brother feeling SO WELL.
You have to remember, as a Mage hawke, Carver is the ONLY one of the three kids who's not a special and unique snowflake. That would mean less time spent with dear-ol-dad because he'd be spending his time between Hawke and Bethany for training.
Bitter little brothers are SO MUCH BETTER then loving little sisters. Course, that might just because I don't HAVE a sister, and so I find it very difficult to relate ;p

Sure, there are probably families where everyone gets along and nobody ever grunts at anyone else, but I wouldn't want to live in one.
You don't have to be on your best behavior around family. If you're cross, you can let off steam with them and they'll understand. And then there's the resentment thing.
Siblings are constantly compared to each other, even by their own parents. It starts when they're infants and continues until they leave home.
"Should we get them piano lessons, do you think?"
"Not all of them, no. Sally doesn't even like music. Let's get her ballet lessons instead."
"Er... are you sure about that, dear?"
"She'll learn to be graceful. You'll see."
That was never meant for Sally's ears, but when she accidentally overhears it, she'll think that her parents agree that she's talentless and clumsy compared to her other siblings. It's definitely a case of "Point? Missing it," but Sally won't understand that her parents are interested in finding an art form for her that she'll enjoy. She'll think that her parents don't love her as much, and what's so special about Janey and Tom, anyway? They aren't all that. And then Tom gets picked for the solo in the school choir.
Hey look! Rivalry +100. And Tom didn't have to do a thing to deserve it. Does it make Sally a bad person? No, it makes her human. But when Tom needs her to vouch for him when a teacher with bad eyesight accuses him of smoking by the corner of the gymnasium, Sally will not let him down.
So yeah, I miss Carver a lot more than Bethany. He's a lot more real.

I could care less, I don't usually use him, but when he's gone I'll probably be a bit happier. But I do agree with you guys on how it's more real, how he's always in your shadow and he's upset over it and all of that.

Oh, I understand Carver's characterization, and it was even very realistic at that. I have an older sister (but then again, I'm also the only son in the family so I never suffered being unnoticed.) And yeah, I actually do like him more than Bethany because of that as well because it felt real. Didn't stop me from wanting to slap him upside the head though.

Well, yeah, family is all about that, too.PrinceLionheart wrote...

Grey Warden Bethany, on the other hand, is very bitter and resentful. She does blame Hawke for her being there, and hates how she is set even further apart from what she considers normal.
Carver, on the other hand, is a bit of a jerk no matter what you do. I like that about him.

GW Bethany is angry at first, but by Act 3, she's sorry for yelling at you, and joins your side again.
i like her so much i cann't stand her going into deep roads. i wouldn't take my real sister no matter how much she wanted to go.

I'm just going to point out the flipside of this. I have a kid sister who for many years was shy and awkward. I instantly related to my Hawke and Bethany. I would do anything to protect her. There was a reason why she didn't get picked on in school too muchHeidenreich wrote...

She was a little bland at times and it seemed like Carver got some of the better dialog. I prefer Grey Warden syblings, even though you get this letter from Bethany that she's "happy" in the circle, I just think storywise it makes more sense that you bring her (or Carver) with you to the Deep Roads. Besides she looks awesome in GW Mage armor. Thats the only chance you get at "dressing up" your companions.
