Grunt is designed to go with you on the Archangel recruitment mission

Evidence follows:
1. Grunt has Concussive Shot. You know all those times a varren gallops towards the door and stops it sealing? Concussive Shot fixes that problem.
2. Grunt has Incendiary Ammo, good for armor and regenerating enemies. What's in the basement? Regenerating enemies with armor.
3. You know The Pyro? The one hiding in the left side of the basement and who always gets you? Grunt can deal with him with a shotgun blast.
4. Grunt is generally awesome but you already knew that.
What other missions or assignments (both games) seem tailor-made for a certain crewmate?

Thane for collector missions.
Tali and Legion for geth missions.
Mordin for Blood Pack.
Jack for cutscenes.

Also - being a VG myself don't really need Grunt for that mission =D

...Jacob has Incendiary Ammo. Zaeed has Concussive Shot. And Jack has Shockwave which is far better than Concussive Shot. No character pre Horizon is better than others at missions.
And I can't take all three of them into the basement.
Jacob has Pull which is pretty useless in the basement, as it can make enemies drift towards the doors. He also dies easily against the pyro.
Zaeed doesn't have Incendiary to deal with armor and regen.
Jack doesn't have Incendiary either, plus she easily dies when she meets the pyro.

I would argue that Kasumi is designed for Collector missions due to flashbang's ability to stop Harbinger, but she is utterly useless against Praetorians. Additionally, her Overload won't get much use.
Miranda is useful on any mission, but she shines on missions with diverse enemy defenses, like Samara's recruitment mission.

But normally I bring Jacob with Squad Incendiary for the Garrus RM. And it's always great. I never found the varren to be much of a problem so I don't feel like I miss Concussive Shot.

Thane definitely seems designed for Collector missions. Mordin is particularly well-suited to the Derelict Reaper (or any other primarily-husk mission), with area stripping and area freezing.
Zaeed and Legion are both particularly well-designed for Haestrom -- apart from the anti-geth stuff, it's a good level for snipers, so the combo is brutal - but Garrus also does well in a pinch.
Kasumi doesn't seem particularly specialized for anything. Apart from maybe Vanguard Sheps, I've never played another class that benefits so much from her Flashbang.

Kasumi seems to be a Jack of all trades. What with a stripping move (overload) CC (flashbang) and shadow strike to distract/severely damage/CC a single high priority target. Low on survivability - but everyone apart from grunt is.

Kasumi is a life saver for ranged classes....My Assassin Infiltrator Shep with Widow isn't very well equipped for dealing with CQC....Kasumi's flash bangs have saved his *ss more often than I can count.

Kasumi is the only CQC on Insanity I find doesn't have a fetish for medi gel...she generally gets herself out of trouble.Mi-Chan wrote...

I find Miranda to be TOO good to bring.I mean, warp overload and slam? She can start and end warp explosions and rip through every defense. AND a damage boost for shep? Waaaay too good
The game becomes too easy with her.
Miranda is essentially a Sentinel and as such is extremely useful for almost every mission. I'd take her around more if I weren't playing as a Sentinel myself.

Interesting proposal. I generally hold off on recruiting Grunt until after the Archangel mission. I might have to shake things up on my next playthrough.

Kasumi is useful on any mission and is arguably superior to even Miranda. Flashbang is outright broken in terms of how beneficial it is for close quarter combat and can be ideal to keep enemy gunfire down while you strip defense for biotics. Of all the squadmates I would say only her and Miranda can be adjusted for just about every mission in the game.

Funny...I find Miranda just doesn't work well for me...I don't think she is that great if Shep is a ranged combatant...mines an Assassin Infiltrator, Widow his primary weapon....on Insanity Miranda is just a medi gel sponge for him.

To be fair, an Assassin Infiltrator has no need for defense-stripping/Warp-bombing since he/she's so efficient with the widowmaker that it'd just slow them down.

They'll primarily use her for the health and damage boost - which is always nice.
Her weapons leave something to be desired though.
Good points Mi-Chan...I hadn't really actually considered the dynamics like that, just more noted the effects....though in saying at the same time, one of my favorite teams on Insanity is Garrus and Thane going team Sniper....head shots on Insanity with the Widow will still kill a large percentage of mooks with one hit, but with a lot of barriers, this team has what I need and stay ranged....keeping the medi gel in Sheps pocket....
