Grunt is designed to go with you on the Archangel recruitment mission

The only real difference I've noticed is with Grunt, for obvious reasons. That's why he's so good.

I don't find Miranda to be that much of a medigel sponge. Much the same as most squadmates really.

I must be doing something wrong with Miranda and Grunt....maybe just not relating to them, so haven't been able to find that battle synergy with them....I pretty much have trouble with most of my CQC's aside from Kasumi.
My version of Grunt in my Insanity games: "GRUNT!! GET YOUR *SS INTO THAT COVER RIGHT THERE!!"...Grunt charges in anyway...<_<..."GRUNT!! NOW!!"....bugger...

Back when I was less experienced with the game and more cautious, I just could not keep my squadmates alive in certain fights, like the platforms on the Collector ship. Nowadays I like to push forward (even with a sniper rifle, and even if it kills me) and they stay alive just fine.
It has been said many times before. But being aggressive can really save your squadmates.

I was in Korlus once, I think it was just before Rana, there were some rocket launchers and regular mooks, I decided to stay in cover and take them down from a distance with the Carnifex. But I forgot to switch Jack's weapon and put her in cover as well, so she and her shotgun pushed forward, and I from my safe position could see her kill one mook and then be hit and die. I felt like the worst leader in the world xDtermokanden wrote...

Does anyone know if Thane and Tali have dialogue when you're about to enter the plague zone in Mordin's recruitment?

Not possible to get Thane or Tali before Mordin, I believe. ( Mordin + Garrus + Grunt + Jack ) trigger Horizon. I don't believe you can avoid that. I have even done Kasumi DLC and Overlord DLC without it triggering Horizon, and the fourth one of those ( above ) triggers Horizon.

Synergy? Miranda has a group buff. She has abilities against every type of defense. She works well with anyone.

Yes, synergy, it does make a difference....Garrus and Kasumi are good examples of this for me....I noticed some time back, that when I equip Garrus with his Sniper rifle, he tends to combat in quite a similar fashion to me and find I can use that to my advantage, such as peppering, flanking, back to back, taking turns using the same line of fire in harmony with our shoot and duck, etc....Kasumi, I let her free roam and the highest majority of the time can pick her intended targets when she calls Shadow, so either strip the mook of his barriers before she reaches him or clear out the other mooks near him....Battle synergy, thus these two are my best squad...working on Thane at the moment.
I have a preference for the Snipers flanking approach and heavy on the planned tactics...I don't think its so much about caution, I have tried the ultra aggressive push forward approach in ME, I don't find it much fun, just don't enjoy the concept or feel...just prefer the shooting gallery style....surround mooks, leaving them nowhere to hide, I find it fast and effective...doesn't work well with CQC squad mates though, but then again I don't enjoy CQC in any game I play...always the eternal Sniper...love the concept, love the game style...love the sedate feel and the tactics planning.

It's possible with a little save game edit magic.

Both do, yes. Thane worries, Tali says she's fine unless her envirosuit gets punctured, in which case she's screwed anyway. Which is true; Thane gets sick at the second door, just like Garrus/Grunt/Samara; Tali does not. Consequently, Mordin also has hidden dialog when you bring Thane to the clinic and he has to cure him.
I don't actually remember what Legion or Samara say. Though neither is a particularly optimal choice for that mission, anyway. (Hard to say what Samara is optimal for, prior to her loyalty. Good pullbot for Adepts/Sentinels, I guess, but earlygame I'd rather use Jacob.)

Fair enough. I didn't mean to say it's best way to play. Only that when I play like that, my squadmates don't draw as much fire and therefore don't die.
Short to mid range is my specialty, also in other games.

Is propably one of the things I like about ranged, if my squaddies are ranged too they take very little damage, if any....As for CQC's I would hazard a guess I am doomed to failure with them...

This gameplay mechanic also means Dominate and AI Hacking will help keep your squadmates alive.

Yeah that particular combination fails because enemies like to shoot whatever is closest to them. So if you hang back and snipe and your squadmates try to CQC (emphasis on try, because squadmates are pretty bad at CQC generally), they will get killed.

Kasumi, due to her invisable attack is the one CQC who can gel with a sniper team...otherwise yes, the CQC's cop it first.
Dominate is awesome....love it for a four way attack...Dominate the mook at the far rear...mooks have nowhere at all to hide then...fun watching them scramble...

I always went for zaeed, garrus, grunt ( especially ) or thane . One exception: kasumi ( flash bang is useful ) .
but as an adept i find miranda fantastic . With Garrus , it's a great team because it gives 2 overload . I don't care about squad ammo anymore because my adept tries to go through fights relying on biotics 90% of the time.

Speaking of Jack as a squadmate, will her squad warp-ammo help the mantis score onehit-kills on mooks as an infiltrator?

So does anyone know if the +35% versus barriers would help it against basic mooks?
Haven't tried it myself but squad warp only gives you an 35% of base weapon damage so its not that big of a boost.

Neither have I. I just wondered if squad-warp will make her more useful as she is sort of lackluster on difficulties above veteran.

nope for sure on insanity since majority enemies in game has shields and ammo power applies to first layer if there's one, but even if its barrier it wont do much with 35 percent increse. i generally took GPS (charge+cloak pretty dope) + viper for shotgun infiltrator so that more ammos are available, but just personal preferense, i've seen other builds as well, and yes viper is more efficient than mantis (there're videos that shows that).
in the end it's an rpg game take whatever you like to the battlefield and enjoy. the only reason i take grunt to archaegel's for the extra dialogue. grunt is great for that mission, as well as many other missions. but it all depends on your class, build. with certain classes you dont need to care who ur taking with. that's about it (my 2 cents)

I like having grunt with squad incendiary ammo and miranda along. miranda is pretty much useful in any situation, and complement all speccs pretty well (maybe except sentinels, but even then). Grunt is a beast, lal, I always feel that he is about to die, but he just keeps going lol. I don't have much experience with insanity having only just started my playthrough with a sentinel and a vanguard, so Ill have to see how it goes.
Starting out as a Vanguard on insanity? You've got a quad human.
