 Firstly, I want to ask if we even know that temp. squad mates will be in this game?  All I have heard is speculation to the fact, and I want it cleared up.

Secondly,  who, if there is temp SMs, would you want to be Temp Squad mates?

Sadly nothing has been confirmed yet. All we know is that Garrus, Tali, Vega, VS, and Liara are technically 'permanent squadmates', yet we're not actually sure what being a permanent squaddie entails. Hopefully we'll get some new information at Comic-Con.

As for who I'd like to be a temporary squadmate? Wrex and Mordin. They're two of my favorite characters and I'd love to have them on the Normandy, but they've got important things to do.

Indeed, I heard this to and it confused me.  Why can't I have Garrus and Tali perma squaddies?  It made me even wonder if Liara/VS/Vega are perma squaddies.

 Yeah, I'm not even sure what they mean by 'permanent' anymore, or if that's even the correct word to use. I wish they would explain a bit further, and tell us about the ME2 squad. All this speculation is just making things more confusing. Let us know about our squad make-up now, so if we don't like it we have months to get over it.

Indeed, I heard this to and it confused me.  Why can't I have Garrus and Tali perma squaddies?  It made me even wonder if Liara/VS/Vega are perma squaddies.

I think perhaps the difference is that Tali and Garrus may be dead, whereas Liara, Vega and (one of) Ashley/Kaidan are guaranteed to be alive. 

The squad system looks confusing, no doubt Bioware will explain more about temporary and permanent squadmates in time.

Squad system seems to be a temp one. Maybe they'll have guest party members or something. I don't really know. I'm really starting to think the only real permanent members are VS and Vega. That makes a full party at all times. Maybe Vega's skills change based on who survived and Shep's class? If so, I could see that working out really well.

What I am hoping for w/r/t temporary squadmates:

- Existing squaddies (that are still alive) are 'on assignment' somewhere.

• Liara as Shadow Broker
• Miranda doing something Cerberus-related
• etc.

- Some of the squadmates will have missions associated with the area that they are in

• Tali/Legion are involved in the geth/quarian conflict
• Mordin/Grunt are involved in the krogan/salarian conflict

- You can travel to certain parts of the galaxy and perform missions for those squadmates.

• Some will join you once their missions are complete (Tali/Legion/Miranda)
• Others will join you when other events occur (Liara joins when SB base is destroyed)

- Some squaddies can be assigned to various tasks, and will be unavailable for missions while they are undertaking those tasks

• Information gathering
• Research
• Peacekeeping

This way we can have the squaddies we want in our squad for missions, and allows others to be useful rather than just sitting around eating our food while everyone else does the work.

If that proves to be the case, I'll be tossing my copy of ME3 in the trash.... <_<

Honestly I can't see that happening, though - considering all the talk of how ME3 would feature "deeper character relationships" , it would be kinda impossible (and honestly retarded...) to form deeper relationships with the characters you've come to know and care about from two previous games when there's only 2-3 permantent members of your squad for the entire game (one of whom you haven't even met till now and the other two have been absent since the end of the first game).

My own guess as far as how a squadmate's "permanence" to Shepard's squad is decided on is that it's based on the decisions that you make in ME3 combined with the choices made in the previous games (specifically ME2 and the outcomes of the loyalty missions).

First they said there were 3 kinds of squad mates. Permanent members you have to get, Permanent members that you don't have to get, and members for only one mission.

Then they said no squad member is permanent, which is really confusing.

Suffice to say, the appearance pack is only for Ashley/Kaiden, Liara, and James. So I think it's safe to say they are with you for almost the entire game.

Then again not every ME2 member got an appearance pack so.......

Pretty sure that implies that all/any of your squad mates can die at a certain point in the game.  But that's just pure speculation.

Bioware don't want to see another s**tstorm on forum, that's why they keep information about ME2 squadmates in secret. I suppose Mordin and Legion won't be even permanent. If they weren't permanent on 'their' planets, they probably never will.

Isn't it already confirmed that Wrex will be a temporary squad mate? I think all of the old teammates should be a temporary squadmate, if they aren't already a permanent. Throw a bone for the fans of those characters.

No, that's just a common assumpiton. All we know is he's involved in the mission on Tuchanka, but nothing from the footage of the mission shows him actually in your squad (or Mordin, who people are also assuming will be a temp. squaddie)

Bioware already confirmed there would be temporary squad mates if I recall.  It's just a question of how many, and who.
