I thought being gay wasn't a choice?

If this is true, how come all the old characters from the previous ME games now all of a sudden chose to be gay?
I don't know how this makes sense.
Take Garrus for example.
My male shep and Garrus have a really cool relationship. The kind you have with a really good straight guy friend. We joke around, he tells me about the chics he's been with (like the story he tells in ME2 about him having more reach and her being more agile and stuff), I tell him about Liara and whatnot. Its like a cool relationship between 2 hetero dudes with Garrus up till now being very clearly a straight dude.
But now all of a sudden he is gay. I mean srsly wtf?
Now the new characters I can understand, I mean if they are gay it makes sense coz they new. But the old guys already have their sexualities pretty much sorted (well apart from Liara coz she's Asari and they all kinda gay if that even makes sense for that species).
I mean if Vaga is gay, thats cool. Didn't know him before.
And I don't even buy the bs that people say that "oh but you can choose to not be gay with garrus". I mean sure, I obviously wont be gay with garrus coz I'm straight, but that wont stop me having to have that weird convo with him (like I was forced to have with Anders in DA2) telling him "sorry bro, but I dont swing that way".
I mean why should I have to have that weird convo with my clearly straight guy friend? How come he is all of a sudden gay and I have to now navigate around it?
It kinda even made sense in DA2 that everyone was all sorts of gay coz almost everyone was new (well except anders which is why it was so weird).
I just don't see how it makes sense that dudes we have known for years now and who are very clearly straight as an arrow are all of sudden super gay.
How does it make sense?

Well lets hope to all the ME gods that they dont make all the previous dudes be gay coz it just wouldn't make sense at all.Eamon696 wrote...
I dont want previous characters available for SS romance in ME3 as much as the next guy, but Garrus and no other character has been confirmed as a SS romance.
I guess i just got thrown for a loop after reading the big gay thread on this forums with pple talking about having a 3 way with like male shep and garrus and grunt and stuff.
I was like this cant be srs.

Don't get too worried about what people say in the S/S thread, things get a little crazy in there.

Its kind of like how Spiderman got his powers from the bite of a radio-active spider... Or like Zombies. Perhaps Garrus got bitten by one.

sorry i dont come to these forums that often i just rly like ME and i think its the best story of any recent game and i dont want it randomly wtfed.
And why wouldn't you pick garrus? I mean srsly the guy can snipe and is a total bamf. He's been the only real cool male dude since the beggining of the game, so he's like your oldest friend. imagine you know a rly good guy friend who is CLEARLY straight then suddenly he turns gay.
it makes no sense, since you cant 'turn' gay. you are either gay from the beginning or you are not.

Because Garrus cannot be attracted to male Shepard!11!11!!!
Even though the only reason he even sleeps with FemShep is because she asks first.

Except you don't know that. And it wouldn't make any sense for a character who didn't approach you before to approach you now, unless *you* indicated that you'd be open to it.
Oh, so this isn't your first account? What a surprise.zainyzom wrote...

But
he could have been bisexual the whole time. Sure, it may be strange
that it never came up but that doesn't rule out the possibility.

Watchout for gay, radioactive spiders. One minute, you think you're hetero, the next, you're bit by a damn gay spider and it changes your sexuality.
I also love how being gay is equated with being a mutant.

NO! I'm sorry but ur wrong.Valentia X wrote...
I was under the impression that the s/s romance options would be bisexual, not gay. And anyways, who cares? Don't like it, don't sleep with them. I'm sure they can deal with it.
I shouldnt have to 'deal with it'. I DONT want to have to have an awkward convo where the game "checks" to see if i want to have a gay relationship with garrus, to which i have to reply "no sorry dude, i dont swing that way" (the way it happened in DA2 with Anders).
i dont want MY cannon story ruined with this totally nonsensicle stuff that shouldnt be ther in the first place.
i'm not saying remove ALL gay choices, just the ones that DONT make sense.Eamon696 wrote...
But in all honesty if the SS romance was done well and made sense I'd be fine if it existed. I wont use it, but if it other players enjoy it, why not?
If vega is a raging gay, i'm TOTALLY fine with that coz he is NEW. but GARRUS is OLD and is my friend and CLEARLY straight for the YEARS I have known him.
"if other players enjoy it, why not?"
well, because I dont enjoy having to have a wierd convo with a good straight friend. why is my enjoyment to be sacrificed coz someone wants to be gay with garrus. thats just retarded.
not everyone irl is gay, you cant just turn characters who have been straight for the whole cannon suddenly gay 'coz someone will enjoy it'.
it totally ruins the story for peple who give a shhh about story and continuity.
im currently reading the game of thrones books, i am on the second book of song of ice and fire. there are characters in the story that are gay, and characters that are not. it would be totally retarded if i open the third book and the first page is "oh you know all those pple we just spent 2 books building their personalities? well now they're ALL GAY".
it would be totally retarded. sorry, but you know i'm right about that.

"I'M STRAIGHT!"
"I'M GAY!"
"I'M BI!"
So no one will ever again be confused by their sexualities.

if you bothered to read or know anything about the entire xmen comic book saga. it was a massive play on the oppression of gay people. the entire concept of the story was about the oppression of the gays in the media and in society, portrayed through the 'oppresion of mutants'. the same way that the lord of the rings was a play on communism.fighterchicks wrote...

gays and mutants have more in common than you think. just because you didnt know that fact about the xmen comics, doesnt mean its wrong. just that you are ignorant.

You're in for a surprise. Especially since further along it has a "straight" character willingly engaging in homosexual relations.
Edited out mini spoiler

Good way to shoot the sh!t and pass the time between 3.6.12. If people were more tolerant and less sensitive things would be better around here
Take a moment to read what he said....... Good..... NOW LEARN FROM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you make me set my gay radioactive spider on you. Then you won't be complaining about Garrus being gay, you shall embrace it.
