No, being gay isn't a choice, coming out is choice though. People don't tend to mention their sexual orientation when they first meet a person, it would be strange: "Hi I'm Tasha, thought I better mention I'm gay in case you try and accuse me of retconning in the future."

I've known plenty of people that are bisexual and still prefer one gender over the other.  It still doesn't stop them from being attracted to BOTH genders.  As it has been stated, GArrus wasn't really attracted to femshep in ME2.  If you break off the romance in the middle, he says something like "Yeah, if you want an intimate moment together, we can just blow something up again", indicating that he's okay with trying the experience, but at that point in time, he's not really attracted to her physically.  It wouldn't be that much of a stretch of him to consider a male Shep either.

Also, I don't really think Garrus being bi is going to affect the story Mass Effect has.  Strangely enough, the romance doesn't really have that much bearing on the story.

if you bothered to read or know anything about the entire xmen comic book saga. it was a massive play on the oppression of gay people. the entire concept of the story was about the oppression of the gays in the media and in society, portrayed through the 'oppresion of mutants'. the same way that the lord of the rings was a play on communism.

gays and mutants have more in common than you think. just because you didnt know that fact about the xmen comics, doesnt mean its wrong. just that you are ignorant.

Because of all the alien characters in the game, he's the most "dudish". Grunt is sort of a meathead, so guys wouldn't identify with him. Thane is too brooding. Mordin is.....Mordin. If straight men (especially American men) would want to be an alien, they would be Garrus: he's "cool", he's got combat training but he's smooth about it but not nerdy or metrosexual about it. If Garrus can be labeled as a possible same-sex romance option, that will make guys who consider themselves "cool" uncomfortable.

i caps coz some pple are incapable or reading what i wrote.

they will do it this way coz that is how they did it in DA2 and they have no way to do it otherwise other than a checkbox in the options menu that says "I am gay" (which would be retarded).

i did make this accoutn today. i was watching some trailers and discorved these forums and came to take a look and saw the big gay thread and was appaled since if they make the old chars turn gay it would ruin the story continuity.

so i decided to make an account and as wtf is going on??

By definition, Garrus would then be bisexual, unless you're suggesting that Garrus is going to go up to a Femshep who romanced him and call it off as he's now all about the men.

Sexuality isn't defined in-game, only inferred. With the exception of Kelly, who flat out states that gender doesn't matter, Mordin, who makes one off-hand speech about choosing Shepard should they have been interested in humans, and Liara, Samara, the Consort, and Shiala, who are mono-gendered and don't come from a species that has an actual concept of  binary gender division, you don't know who is what; you only know that certain characters, at that apex, go for specific genders at the time. Some may be coming out of the closet. Some may simply have supposed that Shepard was heterosexual. Some may just decide to go for broke.




And so you don't get your panties in a wad, Bioware will most likely make it that their 'alternative' sexuality convo doesn't appear unless you initiate it.
