As I said in Phoenix's thread. Character development - good, uncontrolled crying - bad.
At the moment I don't where can Bioware put "breakdown scene". Before Final Battle? Fear - maybe, despair - nope, that's not really a time for despair when whole Galaxy is preparing to strike. After leaving Earth? Shepard should be the last person who can afford despair. He/she is the only one who at least has an idea what to do.

Half to 2/3 of the way through.  Shepard receives some sort of terrible news from Earth, or word that the Reapers have scored a crushing victory against some force or other.  Possible response option, Heroic BSOD  though only a temporary one, of course.

Paragon Shepard slumps to the floor and buries his/her head in hands/ maybe a shower breakdown scene where they slump to the floor in the shower.

I feel a love scene coming on....

Shepard does as you said and slumps to the floor.... in pops LI to tell him/her that they're gonna kick reaper ass and comforts shepard...

I don't think Shep necessarily needs a 'breakdown' scene where he or she is reduced to a puddle of tears, but ME3 could use a scene or three where we see a more human side of Shepard. The scene in LotSB where Shepard can confess to Liara that he's feeling the strain of having the weight of galaxy in his shoulders, and isn't sure how he's going to pull off defeating the Reapers was fantastic.

shep needs a breakdown scene and he needs to recognize he died and to express feelings on it. I'd find the revelations scene so perfect if we get a large data cache explaining alot of the details on the project social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/7730998 and then we have SB moment with their LI or if no LI was there by them maybe someone close to the player. there shep can experience the emotional repercussions of such info.

Yes Shepard's death would be a great catalyst to have a moment to actually reflect on how grim the current situation really is.  GIve Shep a chance to reflect on how the galaxy is riding on one human's cybernetic shoulders (let's hope they got repaired since ME2)  If Shepard fails, the galaxy dies and the cycle continues.

And he's already died once trying to stop it.

So it should be something slow which is getting bigger with time, not some 'minute of breakdown'.
/opinion of course

Dunno about that.  But the pressure has been on Shepard for several years now.  WItnessing a particularly traumatic event, or hearing some awful news could prove too much and cause the facade to crack, or the mask to slip momentarily.

Also not opposed to Shepard expressing fear, doubt, or anger when speaking privately to a trusted crew member.  A LI or Joker, perhaps.
