You think he has a fanbase because of the sniper rifle? no that's not it, he'd have the exact same fanbase if he didn't wield a sniper rifle, but in that case he'd have been identified by something else, he doesn't have a name, and the most defining characteristics of him are his rifle, his accent and the tower, take your pick....
And Bioware please take a hint, Mr. "Sniper" with sexy British accent trumps a marine on steroids (cue: Vega) everytime.

Wrong. The Sniper rifle he is holding is 90% of the reason any American child off his recent MW2 high likes him and his British accent is 90% of the reason for any Brit to like him.ViSeirA wrote...

Bioware if you do decide to give him a voice, don't give him the Hollywood equivalent of a British accent. Please hire a voice actor from Yorkshire or a Welshman, think Rhod Gilbert. No reason other then to really annoy people.ViSeirA wrote...

Really?
Take this scenario, two British guys are talking to each other:
Guy #1: Hey m8.
Guy #2: Hello, how do you do?
Guy #1: OMG, you have a British accent? I love you man!
Seriously? and if he had an AR and went in a fire spree against a reaper people would like him for it as well, you're awfully narrowing down a shell of a character to an object he holds.

I'm neither British nor American, and I like him - the very scene of him fighting while wounded and cornered makes me want to get him out of there and give him a chance to do more than just die when he runs out of meds in that hell

I love that guy, I hope he has a bigger role, quite frankly I wish he'd replace the typical marine on steroids stereotype, first Jacob and now Vega... ugh.
lol and what is exactly "untypical" about him? You know what's special about this guy, people see him, but cant have him, that's it.

Spin it any way you want. It still boils down to the sniper rifle because kids see the sniper rifle as a "pro" weapon in most games, or if God forbid they have a skull scratched into their visor or a skeleton face painted on their balaclava.ViSeirA wrote...

He's a survivor. The teaser starts by listing the casualties and showing the devastation around him and here's this guy all on his own. He's obviously injured, but he just injects some medigel and gets back to work.
He's also a protector. He takes out a husk about to attack civilians. When the shot pans out and you see what he's up against, you know there's no way he can win this fight and he has to know it too. He's fighting against impossible odds, but that doesn't stop him from trying to help people.
I am surprised just how popular he became, though. I'm wondering if the devs/ad people are just as surprised/confused. I think the guy was made just as a nameless soldier for everyone to relate to, to give a face to what's happening on Earth. The problem is, people related to him so much they want to know more about him and I doubt that was ever a consideration when the teaser was made.

Spin it? how did I spin it? illuminate me, and now that you ignored the British accent part, I take it doesn't longer apply to your brilliant perception of why a character is famous?
The amount of time we've already seen this character gave him more personality and intrigue than people like Jacob will ever have and the sniper rifle isn't a big part of it if at all, I love shotguns, 8 of my 16 ME2 playthroughs were Vanguards and only 1 was an infiltrator, also I'm not British or American, tell me again why I love this character?

That's Nigel Fishenchips of course.
I adore this name and hope they keep it.
I'm not sure who coined the name, but I love it too. If they take any suggestion from fans, let it be this one.

My guess is because he's British. Nigel is a pretty British name, not strictly but still, I think British when I hear it. And Fishnchips...well...following the whole British thing... I guess it sounded so ridiculous it caught on.Golden-Rose wrote...
Can someone PLEASE explain to me how he earned the name "Nigel Fishnchips"? It is getting on my nerves.
