I'm not fond of it either. I prefer calling him 'Big Ben'.Golden-Rose wrote...

Spin it any way you want. It still boils down to the sniper rifle because kids see the sniper rifle as a "pro" weapon in most games, or if God forbid they have a skull scratched into their visor or a skeleton face painted on their balaclava.ViSeirA wrote...

Wrong. The Sniper rifle he is holding is 90% of the reason any American child off his recent MW2 high likes him and his British accent is 90% of the reason for any Brit to like him.ViSeirA wrote...

*Facepalm* Why does everyone think guy with sniper = badass? God, I hate that just because a person is holding a certain item it makes them get a undeserved fanbase. LOOK AT ME I HAZ SNIPER! AM I COOL NOW?
You think he has a fanbase because of the sniper rifle? no that's not it, he'd have the exact same fanbase if he didn't wield a sniper rifle, but in that case he'd have been identified by something else, he doesn't have a name, and the most defining characteristics of him are his rifle, his accent and the tower, take your pick....
And Bioware please take a hint, Mr. "Sniper" with sexy British accent trumps a marine on steroids (cue: Vega) everytime.
Really?
Take this scenario, two British guys are talking to each other:
Guy #1: Hey m8.
Guy #2: Hello, how do you do?
Guy #1: OMG, you have a British accent? I love you man!
Seriously? and if he had an AR and went in a fire spree against a reaper people would like him for it as well, you're awfully narrowing down a shell of a character to an object he holds.
Spin it? how did I spin it? illuminate me, and now that you ignored the British accent part, I take it doesn't longer apply to your brilliant perception of why a character is famous?
The amount of time we've already seen this character gave him more personality and intrigue than people like Jacob will ever have and the sniper rifle isn't a big part of it if at all, I love shotguns, 8 of my 16 ME2 playthroughs were Vanguards and only 1 was an infiltrator, also I'm not British or American, tell me again why I love this character?
I am british and love this ^^
I personally like him bacause he is sat in big ben fighting overwhelming odds and it makes me think of 'Operation overlord' (liberation of europe, D-Day, Normandy landings) of world war 2, and the the great speaches of winston churchill concerning it........
'But all this, although a very valuable first step-a vital and essential first step-gives no indication of what may be the course of the battle in the next days and weeks, because the enemy will now probably endeavour to concentrate on this area, and in that event heavy fighting will soon begin and will continue without end, as we can push troops in and he can bring other troops up. It is, therefore, a most serious time that we enter upon. Thank God, we enter upon it with our great Allies all in good heart and all in good friendship."
and general Eisenhower
'Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well
equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.'
And the fact that humanity didnt give in then and that humanity will fight the reapers will all it has!
Yes I know that I am reading far far too much in to this guy but I really like the idea of the comparison

Bioware: Ok, it'll probably be good to add a token option of playing as female since we are making a full out character creator, mostly are unlikely to use it, but it's good to have a choice...
Fans: femShep? Oooooo... GIVE US!!!
Bioware:
Bioware: We need some token alien squaddies, it's a space game after all. No one should get to attached to a walking spacesuit and weird bird/lizard like things, so no need for romantic lines and we can always swap them with some more squaddies in later games...
Fans: Garrus! Tali! GIVE USssss!!!
Biowre:
Bioware: Ok, we need a voice for the trailer, but we don't want to reveal anyone important yet, so let's add some random soldier to make the speech, the fans should probably forget about him soon enough.
Fans: British Sniper!!! GIIIIVE USssss!

I think aside from the obvious reasons -- he's British and he's a badass who decided to set up shop inside an iconic landmark, earning him insta-epic points -- there are two things that make the Big Ben sniper cool:
He's a survivor. The teaser starts by listing the casualties and showing the devastation around him and here's this guy all on his own. He's obviously injured, but he just injects some medigel and gets back to work.
He's also a protector. He takes out a husk about to attack civilians. When the shot pans out and you see what he's up against, you know there's no way he can win this fight and he has to know it too. He's fighting against impossible odds, but that doesn't stop him from trying to help people.
.
^^ This basically sums up what I like about this character from the trailer. From what we have seen, London is getting blown to pieces from insurmountable odds, but he still keeps fighting and seeking to make a difference. In my view, he represents the first line of defence against the Reapers before Shepard arrives, and is doing what he can to save civilians. I would like to see him in ME3 too!
His voice sounds like it is played by the actor 'Sean Bean' who played Boromir in Lord of the Rings, and was also in the Bond film 'Goldeneye' as the Alec Trevelyan.

I thought it'd be pretty damn neat if Vega was actually a soldier and a member of the SIS/MI6, but went undercover within the Alliance to, I dunno, keep an eye on Shepard/find out what's really going on and, uh, stuff. Just wishful thinking. *shrugs*
I'm going to assume ONCE AND FOR ALL, the guy in the tower is a soldier/member of the SIS/MI6, realises ****'s gone to hell, and has decided to protect people as best as he can from his vantage point. He is not associated with the trailer narrator, whom I suspect is actually Vega.
I guess a lot of people assumed (myself included) the trailer narrator WAS the guy in Westminster Tower. I mean, hello, you've got the narrator's accent, the attack taking place in London and there's a soldier held up in Westminster Tower. When you take in all of this information, you try to piece it together like a puzzle. I'm sure this is why it was generally assumed the narrator was the soldier. (Not that it matters much now, but I thought it was interesting that "Big Ben" was sporting N7-styled shin guards, eerily similar to Shepard's N7-styled ones. Things that make you "Huh?!", eh?)
You know what's odd? I've only read one comment that came from a dev (Jarrett Lee, I believe) in reference to Sanders not being the sniper. His words were something like, "... Sanders isn't the sniper." I've yet to come across any other dev comments saying the same thing. Usually when you shoot down a rumour of this magnitude, it takes more than one dev to set folks straight. Seems fishy to me, but that might just be the rainbow trout I've got planned for dinner. Hmm.
