Are asari female?

The funny part is they could have the asari look like human males with all organs and it will still be a female by defintion. So are you still comfortable saying it is a s/s for a female human? What would that mean? I tell they are an alien speices that gender constructs make no sense applying to it. It is basically what BW stated very ineleoquently.
I mean hanar are likely to look very much the same male or female if they even have gender/sex identification. It isn't apparent from the games proper to me. If a human had sex with either all you could properly say is it is alien sex period. It is whatever the person doing the act wants to make of it. So if someone makes their Shepard have sex with whatever then they choose what they feel is their own orientation. However, they cannot then say the whole population is just like them. If they cosider their fem Shep plus Liara = lesbian then that does not make all fem Shep with Liara = lesbian. Liara is unlikely to care abotu gender and so is any asari. They likely don't self-identify as gay, bisexual, or hetero. If half the partners don't identify the same way you do then how can it be logical to say it is what you want it to be period?
So recap it is hetero for male Shep + Liara if he sees it that way and for fem Shep+ Liara she identifies it as lesbian if she so chooses. However, that does not equal male of any species +asari = hetero or female of any species + asari = lesbian.
I hope you enjoyed this .

It's trying to get both sids to see reason but likely to fail. Either people accept both sides are right about some things and wrong about others it will keep going in circles.

The simple fact is that the social conventions in the ME Universe seem to name all Asari as female. They are referred to as SHE and HER, even by other Asari. Their hormones and personalities also all seem to reflect this. They have maternal instincts. They use female based life stage names (maiden, matron, matriarch). They also all have female reproductive organs. The only real difference is in that their specific physiology does not require MALE reproductive organs to faciliate their reproduction. Yes, they are mono-gendered. And yes, they are ALL female. They are aliens. Just because our nature requires the existence of one gender to facilitate/justify the existence of another, does not mean the Asari have the same problem. What you are talking about in terms of perception can also be used to make this argument. Perhaps the Asari had no idea of the male/female thing prior to their interaction with other races...but as soon as they met other races, they probably went "look, based on a comparison, we are obviosuly all female"....and went with it, adapting to interact with other races, as the super-diplomatic Asari tend to do.
You know whay that is simple your translator changes what they speak into human words and understanding. They have no word for patriarch because they have no males. Whatever word they have in the asari language for head of household is translated to matriarch to all humans because that is what we understand. We view them as female in gender yet they do not view themselves as such. Poor writing perhaps but BW stated their intents and several people wrote different parts so you can find inconsistencies throughout the games.
As for female reproductive organs I hope you don't mean human ovaries because I am unware that was ever specified. Given they reproduce without a male gamete there is no indication they will birth in the same way and have human egg and birth canal structure. If you can link direct proof from BW not some wiki not some guess but BW themselves stating this exactly, then I will accept that.
Why would the asari want to limit themselves to one gender when they don't have to? No benefit to doing so and it would not be taught and learned social response. Maybe a few individuals might come to feel that way, but as a species I've got to say nope.

I'd wager that this thread has 12 hours of life before it's become so ridden with haters, counter-haters, trolls, counter-trolls, and fans that it gets locked.
Well so far so good though. A lot of reads and few posts so maybe some are getting the point.

That leaves hermaphrodites or asexual. Given that they mate outside their species I would say they are asexual. However mating with their own species can result in undesirable genetic diversity.
So altough they are fully able to reproduce asexually they have a way to transmit genetic materials.
Conclusion: Asari are asexual opportunistic hermaphrodites.

An all-female race, the asari reproduce through a form of parthenogenesis. They can attune their nervous system to that of another individual of any gender, and of any species, to reproduce. This capability has led to unseemly and inaccurate rumors about asari promiscuity.
Asari can live for over 1,000 years, passing through three stages of life. In the Maiden stage, they wander restlessly, seeking new knowledge and experience. When the Matron stage begins, they "meld" with interesting partners to produce their offspring. This ends when they reach the Matriarch stage, where they assume the roles of leaders and councilors.

Do they give birth? Yes.
Do they have a female figure? Yes.
Do they have a part that goes up, strong and long, for probing? Considering they mate using the mind, I'd say no.
Do they have a V? Well, they give birth, and a ex-bioware employee confirmed it. Though probably not for pleasure, whether it's man rod or fisting.
Works for me.

Then female Shepard IS a lesbian (or bisexual). Asari could consider herself to be a rabbit, for FemShep they look like human females and if FemShep is turned on by Asari, she IS LESBIAN/BI.

I do wonder, what happens if Femshep is not attracted to any human woman at all, but is attracted by asari?
