So in ME3 we were introduced to the Ardat-Yakshi, basically Asari born that kill the people they sleep with. Samara said that they are born from a pure blood parent, an Asari that has two Asari parents. Now if you romance Liara Shepard, in LoTSB, said eventually he'd like to have children with her. Only one problem is that Liara is a pure blood. I think this should be addressed in ME3 if you romance her. What do you guys think could this pose a problem. Sorry if this has been discussed because I've never seen a thread on it.

an ardat-yakshi is born from two pure blood parents on rare occasions. so shepard (being human) there is no threat of liara (or any other asari) and shepard having ardat-yakhi children.

but while we are on the ardat-yakshi note, samara still has two other ardat-yakshi children (3 if your a renegade and didnt kill morirth) i suggest that during ME3 you talk with the Asari leaders(idk what they are called, their council or w/e) and make a decision to have her two children become justicars since they are very powerful biotics, and cannot/should not procreate.

What do you mean?

Are you trying to say there's a chance the kid could be born an Ardat-Yakshi?

Because if it only occurs in pure bloods, she would have nothing to worry about mind melding with Shepard.

Now, if you're trying to say, consider that Liara might only want pureblood children, I think it's too late for that. She's already shown the interest to have kids with Shepard.

^ Samara said that it only occurs in the daughters of purebloods, what I'm trying to say is that if Shepard and Liara ever had kids they could turn out to be Ardat-Yakshi.

Where does it ever say two pure blood parents?

What Samara sad is that only pure bloods can be Ardat-Yakshi, this is the reason why Asari are discouraged form having pure blood children and why pure bloods are treated with suspicion I guess.
Liara and Shep will have normal children, since they will not be pure bloods.
To birth Ardat-Yakshi both parents have to be Asari.

Ah okay I guess I misunderstood. Now I think there may be an issue in ME3 involving Ardat-Yakshi.

Just wanted to comment that the OP has the funniest unintended oxymoron title I've seen.
Pretty sure there will be noticeable effects of having an Ardat-Yakshi for a teammate if recruited, so there may not be too much worry there.
Interesting thing one of the posters brought up: Liara technically has a parent that is not a pureblood as Matriarch Aethyta had a krogan "father". Does that mean Ardat-Yakshi are high risk in just one generation of pureblood?

Shepard is not an Asari.

Therefore any potential Liara-Shepard kids will not be Ardat-Yakshi.

Next question.

Yeah, it would have to be a pure-blood Asari, meaning two pure-blood Asaris would have to mate. That's part of the reason that pure-bloods are discriminated against.

It doesn't mean two pure-blood Asari have to mate, it means two Asari have to mate, resulting in a pure-blood.

It's an extremely rare disorder. Only three are known to exist (two, now, if you killed Morinth) and they all came from the same mother.

It takes years of training for someone to be a Justicar, its not a title you can just give someone and have them become one overnight. And I doubt they would completely overturn their culture, because Shepard asked them to.

It's questionable whether Ardat-Yakshi actually only come from pureblood couplings, and I don't remember Samara's statements about it being definitive. There is a lot of cultural superstition surrounding Asari reproduction, but its mechanics themselves seem to suggest it's a parthenogenetic system and no genetic material from the "father" is actually present in the child.

Ardat-Yakshi are mutant asari. They have a very rare genetic condition that can only occur occurs more frequently in pureblood asari. Not every pureblood is an Ardat-Yakshi! If that were true, the asari would have had no population growth before they met the salarians, because one parent would die in the conception of every child; there may be small population growth if asari were capable of having twins or triplets.

By mating with aliens, asari gain diversity. The stigma against purebloods exist because they provide nothing new for the asari race, not because purebloods automatically become Ardat-Yakshi.

"Asari believe that their offspring acquire the best qualities of the "father" from the melded genes, but evidence is anecdotal. They frown upon intraspecies conception, since genetic traits and cultural insight is gained from mating outside their species, so it's considered wasteful for asari to reproduce together. The results of such unions are occasionally referred to as "purebloods," a great insult among contemporary asari. A rare genetic defect known as Ardat-Yakshi which makes asari destroy the partner's mind during melding, occurs much more frequently among the daughters of purebloods." masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Asari#Culture

Its very rare for Ardat-Yakshi to excist at all even among purebloods. If they were common you'd think the Asari would have gone extinct before their first contact with the Salarians.

I always wondered since Samara seems to be the 'carrier' of whatever cases the disorder why did she have more than one child? Honestly after the second child wouldn't she step back and say "Gee... maybe its me?" Seems stupd that she'd keep having kids when she's had 2 out of 2 come up Yakshi.

I am under the impressions that asari-alien pairings can cause ardart yakshi but its more common in asari exclusive pairings because they share the same DNA and are more likely to trigger the Ardart yahkshi gene

Specially because Ardat-Yakshi are steril, as Samara said.

About Samara's children, i believe she got the 3 of them before she knew the older one was Ardat-Yakshi, after all it just shows up at maturity, wouldnt be surprised they just realized after their first mate died

ardat-yakshi are sterile and they can only be birthed by asari who carry the ardat-yakshi gene.

Ardat-Yakshi-ism only manifests at maturity. She probably didn't know, if she had all 3 of her kids before the oldest reached adulthood.
