There we go. As an owner of both games I will proclaim that Edge fails.
Modern Warfare 2 does not nearly deserve that score - it's a good game, true but not much of it is original or particularely interesting - and Dragon Age: Origins is highly underrated.

While I have only played DA on the PC, if the console versions are anything like it, there is no way they deserve less than a 7. I just can't respect that opinion.

Some mags realy do not like computer RPG's and think all games should be FPS. I stopped reading the Edge mag due to their bad reviews on some realy nice game. PC Gamer and PC Zone are far better.

Thats right, but when the biggest magazine in the industry givs it 5/10 ... shocking... jeez.

Im the bioware/dao basher here, and I would even give DAO a 9/10.

Not saying everyone has to agree, but anything below an 8 is just a joke.

I don't think Edge is a good mag, honestly. I'm not surprised. Unless it's Halo-riffic. They want nothing to do with it.

mm, I never said though that Edge or Famitsu is reliable but they are the biggest name out there.Clearly Bioware/EA must have done something...

Not too sure about that. Famitsu is huge, true, but the circulation numbers for Edge that I can find put it behind PC Gamer, which is the only other magazine I looked at.

First of all, reviews merely reflect one person/group's opinion, which is why it is always good to read several reviews, actually reading the context and forget about the silly score. Prior to ordering this game, I read several online reviews, despite the high scores they gave the game, they all agreed that the console version is poorly done compare with the superior pc version, which is probably something you wouldn't pick up if you only read the score.



Then onto my next point. The 360 version is indeed far inferior to the pc version, I cannot speak for PS3, but after playing the 360 version(my pc ain't good enough), I do agree with reviewers on that. The control as well; if you have actually taken the time to read the various reviews avaliable, instead of just trying to reassure yourself by counting the number of 10/10 review; most reviewers(again, even those who gave high score) have agreed that pc control is far better than console version, and having played the game on 360, I will have to agree as well. And I don't think I need to get to the graphics comparison here.



Next we have the standardised fantasy setting... Which I can foresee people arguing that elves aren't the superior race anymore thus making the setting unique, while I do agree, but the fundamental hasn't changed: Humans are always the balanced race, and they aren't the first to make human the selfish discriminating race(off topic: +10 for realism however!) in RPG; elves are always either the magey race or the archery race; and dwarves are always the strengthy race. Usual story with the world ending and the hero is the only one able to ending it, blah blah blah(Go read reviews, plenty of reviews have said the same thing despite giving good score). And a rather traditional approach to gameplay, etc etc...



Don't get me wrong however, I do enjoy the game very much, but I don't believe that just because I enjoy the game I will have to ignore all the flaws or even embrace them, that would just make me ignorant; beside, if everyone are just blindly praising the game and not giving any constructive critism, then how will game dev(or any developer) be able to improve? Though I am not very sure about the 5/10 score, even with all consideration of the flaws in the console version, I would still say the game is worth higher than that. However, at the end of the day, it's just the opinion of an individual, just as you and I are entitled to our own opinion, they are as well. And may I repeat myself: this is why you read the review content and not just the score.



PS. Don't compare Famitsu to Edge, please... You make Edge very very sad.

Now I happened to like Oblivion, but it does not deserve a better score than Morrowind, they should be pretty equal, if anything the edge should go to Morrowind.

Also, who cares what some random magazine says? Game reviewers all suck.

EDIT:  And I find it highly amusing that they scored Jade Empire higher than DA:O.
