I try to switch it up so that each character gets an equal amount of game time. This doesn't always go as planned.

you ever get caught against a bunch of shielded Blue Suns with NO overload member? :crying:

Locust with Disruptor ammo strips sheilds fast and messes with their weapons while at it.

The only characters I've never used are Jacob and Samara. I've used everyone else though. In ME1, Garrus and Wrex the most. In ME2 - Garrus, Legion, Miranda, Mordin, and Thane the most.

Yes =) Usually I change the pairing that goes with me, just to see how they go along in terms of combat and dialogue.

I have my favourites and have been known to take squaddies for pure entertainment purposes.

However, in most runs I mainly use - Grunt, Kasumi, Garrus or Mordin. If he was available earlier someone would be tossed out for Legion but as it is. Oddly my suicide team for the final run is usually Jack and Tali - no idea why.

I should say I don't play on Insanity mainly on the one before that - Hardcore?

ME1 I ran my Vanguard with Wrex and Kaidan. Much fun was had shooting floating mobs and there's just something special about killing Geth Colussus on foot (I can't aim the Mako at all).

I only use the ones I like the most so in ME1's case Garrus and Wrex. For ME2 Garrus, Grunt, Legion, Zaeed, Kasumi, Miranda.

In ME1 since there was only 6 squadmembers they saw the light of day alot more than some of my ME2 squad. Wrex, as much as I like him, barely got used at all maybe once or twice. Kaiden was used alittle more but Virmere is usually a half-way point for me so its mostly when he is a mandatory squadmate. Garrus and Tali were not used much UNTIL I played ME2 and decided to go back and find out more about them.

ME2: Miranda and Garrus for most missions, sometimes Tali or Samara.
But other than that all the other squadmates got their time to shine during their loyalty mission.

Jack- Went down too easily for a bad-ass biotic (Liara in ME1 was a much better biotic)
Grunt- Never really needed him for my playstyle
Jacob- WEAK weapons and powers, the worst template out of the whole team IMO
Legion- Already have Tali, that and he comes in so late in the game
Mordin- As an inflitrator I already got incinerate so felt redundant
Zaeed- Same as Grunt
Kasumi- Again was an inflitrator and most of the time there was no combat situation that called for real stealth
Thane- I have yet to use him

I use jacob  3 times first two times I got no choice and then his loyalty mission, Other then that I pretty much mix and match to hear the dialogue,Sometimes I'll start a whole mission over to use different characters. Don't use Miranda that much actually, pretty much used Garrus every single mission my first play-through,now...not so much I had a good Mordin/Thane combo for a bit good sniper plus incinerate "Flamable...inflammable,forget which, doesn;t matter." But yeah pretty much use everyone but jacob.

I'll turn down difficulty to mix things up. Last time I took Mordin on Jacob's loyalty mission, who isn't terribly good against the mechs but has some great dialogue about what has happened to the castaways.

Usually make a playthrough with only two characters in team, but eventually everyone will have their tries. Jack participated only in 17th and Jacob was in 18th, though.

I prefer to mix it up to keep it entertaining. It also feels weird to me for some reason, when I recruit someone and they sit on the normandy the whole time. Still, there are characters I use more than others usually leaves Zaeed, Jacob and Mordin(even though I love him!) fighting hte least.

Are you the same way? Or do you always pick the best for your class or mission?

I base it on who seems right for the mission. Fighting geth, bring tech/anti-synthetics types.

Or

Who has the most dialog/roleplay sense. For example: Zaeed always comes to Garrus recruitment, Mordin to Grunt's recruitment, Miranda to Jack's Loyalty, etc.

It also depends on which Shepard I'm playing. For instance, my paragon sole survivor doesn't trust cerberus so he doesn't bring Miranda or Jacob anywhere.

No, I don't use some characters outside their LM's, except when I want to hear different comments or reaction on different missions (like biotic god or lot of Citadel stuff in ME2).

Other than that, I choose my team according the mission I'm going.

Hell yes!

Except I'm a huge achievement **** so it took me 3 play throughs of ME1 before I could mix and match as I wanted.

But after that and during all of ME2 I mixed it up all the time. I love all the characters.

In ME1, I used Ashley, Tali, and Liara more than anyone else.
In ME2, Miranda, Jack, Samara/Morinth, and Tali were my favorite squad mates.

Rarely do I use most of them if they aren't required. In my first ME1 play back in the day I took Garrus and Kaidan everywhere. In my second and subsequent PTs it was Garrus and Wrex. I don't think I ever used Liara in ME1, aside from on Noveria (I think I only took her once, though). Or Tali, for that matter.

In ME2, first PT I took Garrus everywhere with Jack as my second when there wasn't a required squaddie. Second PT I did the same thing, but Thane was my second. Third play I tried to mix it up, took Kasumi most everywhere and used Garrus as my second. I don't think I can play a game where I don't take Garrus anywhere, honestly.

My latest Insanity, Adept, tried to make a point of actually using characters I wouldn't normally use. Anyways...

Garrus, Jack, Samara and Mordin were the backbone of the squad. Jacob was used every once in a while before Jack got her Squad Warp ammo. Having an Area Pull on a squadmate is amazing for an Adept, and having a squad ammo to boot just sweetens the deal. Both Jacob and Jack really surprised me with how effective they were. Though I still wouldn't use either very often on my Engineer or Infiltrator...Garrus provides Area Overload as always, Concussive Shot can be helpful in a pinch, and I just like having him around. Mordin comes in on any mission with Krogan/Vorcha. Area Reave on Samara is just amazing, and running a pure Adept squad with Jack and Samara against Collectors is just absurd.  Try it some time, it's just stupidly effective.

Tali and Legion basically never leave the ship. Legion comes in too late, and Tali has an atrocious skillset. Energy Drain is nice I guess, but I generally do her mission somewhat late.

Zaeed didn't get used much. Squad Disruptor is nice but I usually preferred having an Area Overload instead.

Thane and Miranda are nice as always. Miranda is always the go-to in my previous playthroughs, though, and I really tried to not use her much.

I really ought to try out Kasumi more often. I never seem to use her much after her mission.

Grunt is okay, but not having anything that can strip defenses or set up biotic combos really goes against him, at least as an Adept.

So basically, everyone gets used except for the engineers. Shame, as Engineers are my favorite class (and the one I will be taking into ME3 first), but their skillsets are terrible. Why is their drone CD 30s? And there's just so few geth to mess around with AI Hacking.

My soldier Shep usually stuck with Garrus sniping and Kasumi sneaking around and backstabbing. Jack and Samara are awesome on the IFF mission, and Mordin is good for armor bosses, like the Thresher Maw and Oculus.

I know a lot of people complain about how ME2's plot was character based, but I like how the loyalty missions force you to pick up companions you would never use otherwise. It feels weird to recruit these specialists and never use them.

I tend to use Garrus and Tali.  SInce AAP2 I also use Miranda when I need biotics.  I may on occasion use Grunt, Kasumi, or Zaeed.   I can't really take anyone else seriously in combat.

Guess what criteria I use?

In ME1, I pretty much use everyone except Kaidan. Most of the time I use Garrus and Tali against Geth, Wrex and Ashley against husks and rachni, and Liara and Ashley against mercs.

In ME2, I pretty much only use Garrus, Grunt, Miranda, Thane, Zaeed, and occasionally Kasumi or Mordin.

I've tried to keep usage up on the entire squad, but obviously we will have our favorites, either determined by their versatility or how well we like them, personality wise. My least favorites are Jacob (selective respect and how he acts about Thane), Zaeed, and Kaiden. Everyone else has very layered characters. And can we have a character like Jolee Bindo? You know...cough...Anderson

In ME1 I prefer to use any two of Wrex, Garrus, Tali or Liara
In ME2 I prefer to use any two of Miranda, Samara or Kasumi, and sometimes Garrus or Thane, rarely Tali or Legion, and avoid using Jack, Zaeed, Jacob, Mordin and Grunt.
