I have about 10 or so run throughs with new and imported characters, but this week, when my xbox internet connection was cut off, trying to import a character causes a error to pop up saying the user was switched and the game resets back to the start. Tried several times trying to import different characters, with no new results.
Will getting my internet connection back fix this issue or is this just a issue that'll only get worse?

Hm...sounds like the 'sign in has changed' problem to me; I can't think of any reason as to why losing your internet connection would prevent you from importing a character (I play offline so if that is truly correct then I could never import which is not the case).

Not sure if anyone found a working solution to the sign in change problem though.

I had this happen before, turn off xbox, turn on xbox and log out of xbox live then re sign in. It should work if not clear your xbox hard drive cache an recover your gamer tag it should work with the first suggestion though good luck.
