Here's a thought: Don't like a feature? Don't use that feature.

I understand some features are not for everyone (some people will or will not use Kinect, some will or will not choose a romance, some will or will not play different classes, etc). However, I do not understand the seeming NEED for some people to belittle or ridicule the feature that they currently do not have interest in.

Does it make people feel better to nock a feature they do not care about? I personally do not like eating liver, but I do not stand in my local grocery store laughing at people who buy it telling them how stupid they are for enjoying it.

hey, i have interrest in the feature. my question: will my headset also be supported? because it would be kind of silly just to buy kinect for a feature that only consist about using your voice.

Yeah it will be a fun feature hopefully - if I can pick up a used kinect device nice and cheap. It's actually tempting me to get the 360 version, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

No, the feature uses technology specifically built into the Kinect to enable the voice feature.
Using the headset would require creating an entirely new code for this same function to work. Thus would use more time to implement.
So No Kinect = No yelling at Garrus to use concussive blast.

As for my original post on this HappyHappyJoyJoy...I know that the spiel that Bioware claims is incorrect. I understand that. My point is that Bioware brings up that "fact" as a reasoning for not implementing features into their games such as a multiplayer (though I personally don't want it) or backstory of the protagonist. Dragon Age 2 (though I hate to complain about this) was asked to have multiple races and/or origins by the fans. Bioware devs used the 1 Feature = less of another feature spiel as a way to outright deny these features. By using this arguement:
1) those who know nothing about coding/video games are convinced it is true
2) any feature that the devs personally do not want in their game (which they are entitled to choose not to implement) can be disregarded.
3) Gives an excuse for those things that were subpar in their game (as few as there are) Image IPB

I don't see the point.... But better to have it and not need it...right?

Well... If we were to take Chris Priestly's endless "Oh, so you want us to include X? OK, but development time and disc space are limited, so we'll have to cut a lot of content. Are you sure you still want it? No, OK then, go and make no more stupid suggestions." seriously, then including it is a horrible idea.

I'm way late, due to lack of interest in this.... But, it wasn't my suggestion. I said I don't see the point. Never said I wanted it. Learn to read before you choose to be a douche.

I absolutely agree that Kinect doesn't add anything (positive) to the game, from what we've seen in the demos it is purely a gimmic that for the most part gets in the way of something that has proven to work perfectly without it.

I like it just for the simple fact that it will make it allot easier for me to roll a cigerette during dialogue scenes. B)

Do not want this. It looked good - for about two seconds, but then I realised that I'd still be using the controller and shouting at the T.V. Multi-tasking not my strong point.

"Xbox - self destruct!". That would be the only command I'd give Kinect.

Using Kinect would be like trying to wave a fly away. Give me a chair and controller any day.

I tried TC's Endwar demo.

I did about 3 voice commands before a feeling of "WTF am I doing?" set in. I'm not yelling at my freaking computer.

The day Kinect for PC shows up, I'm buying it. I'll be in line a Best Buy. It's a kick ass idea that is only going to get better with newer versions and as people play with it. But they again I love to see things improved. I'm a sacred cow eater, so something like Kinect that lets me throw away controls and be "in" the game is something that I have got to support.

Did you see the Roman soldier game at E3? That is some awesome looking stuff. Picture Dragon Age four, where you're choosing your spells and aiming them at monsters from a FPS or over the shoulder view... That could rule. ME4... Standing there with your biotic powers (or engineer powers or whatever), whipping items in the world and attackers around like a Jedi or hacking through gates and mechnical stuff in the scenery? You can't beat that.

Will ME3's support for Kinect be perfect? Maybe not. Will it be a new, neat, and interesting thing, hells yes. :-D

I'd love to see that as well. Why haven't developers put the zots into taking full advantage of what Kinect can do with a AAA game?

Don't know myself. But I would have seen the hacking mini games from ME2 and using the kinect as being a really cool feature.

I'm glad to see Bioware adding this in myself. I seriously doubt that full Kinect support would have been feasable in the last game in an epic trilogy that has used standard controls for the first two games but it bodes well for the future.

I dislike Kinect. End War (not kinect I know. But kinda the same thing) single handedly curtailed my sex life. My wife was like, "Oh you think I'm in the mood after you kept me awake for like three hours with your stupid game?"

My argument that I was winning the World War III did little to help my cause.

I already own Kinect and will probably try out the features on it. Why not? The voice commands alone for things like Netflix etc. are a great advantage. I also own a headset, but I'll definitely give it a shot.

I'm totally gonna use it! I love my Kinect! but I'm only gonna use it when I'm alone.. My brother is an Ass & would most likely say different voice options to f*ck with me.. ¬_¬

Why restrict voice commands to people that own a Kinect? Most people have headsets, so why isn't that supported? I know Microsoft is pushing developers to install Kinect support but still... it just seems wrong.

It seems 95% of the forumites are unable to read previous posts before making a comment. The voice recognition software is built into the kinect, this way the game devs don't need to devellop the software = less costs.

Except I did read it. That's why I questioned their decision instead of saying, "Cool, I'll just use my headset on the assumption that it is supported as well!" My point was that they are restricting access to a feature requiring an expensive peripheral instead of using a device that came with every X-Box. They've had plenty of time to write the neccessary software and if it won't fit on the disk, they could release it as day 1 DLC in the same manner as the cerberus network. As it is, they're excluding the majority of their customers.

Well, I already have Kinect, so I guess I'll give it a go. Judging from what we've seen during the E3 demo (3+ voice commands withing seconds) I can't get rid of the feeling that I'd be sitting there going

"Liara limb up this ledge you should be able to climb up without me telling you"
"Kaiden use this"
"Liara use that"
"switch weapon"
+X

and all of this within less than 10 seconds. Considering that I do not live alone doesn't realy help either. Whoever is in the same room with me while I play or even in the next room will think I am either a retard or at least annoying as hell.

Will there at least be an option how muc we have to tell our comanions and which tasks can be taken over by the computer (especially things like "climb up")?

I have a Kinect already, i'm probably going to poke it. I won't use it for dialogue, but I really like the idea of giving commands. It seems a lot easier.

Obviously it's a marketing move to get more Kinect sales, nonetheless, the argument that it's "taking too much resource away" is invalid, all they need to do is come up with original ideas on how to USE it, not how to INVENT it.

Really there are hundreds of way to impliment the Kinect into mass effect, for instance if they used the ME1 CIC, they could make it a minority report esque control. But all they came up with that's actually usefull is voice commands, because we don't have enough buttons to map.

I stopped playing EVERY Kinect game after 10 - 20 minutes. Its useless gimmick. It may be fun in the start but it doesnt improve experience but actually makes it more bothersome. I doubt that someone will finish the whole game using it.

Smells like EA spirit.

I never said they were taking away resources. They're underutilizing an inovative tool for the people that have it and ignoring those that don't. They're only using it as an overpriced microphone. If you could do some of the other things you mentioned I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I think saying things instead of clicking them can wear out in battles. Reminds me of that AVGN episode where he was using voice command addon in a shooting game:

"Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire!" You really wanna have your voice sore after each play session of the day? not to mention if you have other people living in your house or parents...
