I will have the biggest laugh if the Kinect features are moved to PC. I mean really?

"LIARA, SINGULARITY. HEY LOOK I DID SOMETHING GREAT, HAHAHA THIS IS AWESOME. Oh wait, what is this on my keyboard, oh it's the number 3 key. Hey look its binded to Singulary. Wow."

360? Fine, I can see the use of it instead of having to pause and fire away abilities each time when I can just say it and it's a lot easier. That'd work well. As for PC? Ehm.. well... perhaps not so effective.

I don't my self have need for Kinetic. How ever, I do get how it could be usefull, if it would work well. Of course I also agree that make something to so few players, isn't really much of worth of developers time. Other hand something what isn't that common yet, can come common later.

It's like 3D TV, way too soon for now, but somewhere it has to be started. Also useless for me.

It has started. But right now, just about every motion control solution is just a sales gimik. And something cool to show your parents when they visit you on the holliday's.

There is actually a really cool and useful implementation of motion control hardware. I saw a guy playing a flight sim (IL2 I think) with something called TrackIR. It tracked his head and he could look around his cockpit and track targets through his canopy in some kind of free form pad-lock view. It's probably the only time I've ever seen motion controls used for something actually useful-all be it in what most would consider a (dead) genre of gaming.

I have a kinect and I can say I'll never use the feature. The kinects voice sensor isnt the greatest so if you have the volume up it wont register half the time, plus its faster just to select the option you want in dialogue.

This.  It's an idea that's only cool until you think about it.  If you voice a squad command, and kinect doesn't hear you right, you die.  If you hit the d-pad, it's pretty instantly recognizable if the command didn't go through, and you can hit it again pretty quick.  I have a kinect, and I'll probably try it for the novelty - but I'm pretty dang sure I'll get bored and turn it off after the intro level.

I won't ever use it during convos - that's the only break I have to eat.

Voice commands for games has always been a feature that seems great on paper but turns out less than useful in reality. People will use it for half an hour to mess around with, and then will turn back to the old fashioned way...

I have a Kinect, but I will feel completely ridiculous if I keep shouting things at my TV.

Using a different command for each ability seems complicated though, I'd rather just shout "awesome" at the screen and make awesome things happen automatically.

I'll probably use the squad voice commands just for the heck of it. Might even use the dialog selection to give my hands a break on occassion.

I find Kinect to be a joke, but I liked the way they implemented the voice commands for ME3. When I first heard about ME3 having Kinect, I was a bit worried, but then I saw what they're using it for and I find it to be a good idea. If you want to use it, go ahead and if not, then don't.

I wouldn't use an Xbox even if it were given to me for free.

I already shout at my tv when I play Mass Effect so why not make it a feature of the game, of course I'm usually shouting "get your arse out of the way Miranda!" or "Garrus stop standing 6ft in the air!"

I really don't see what the big deal is. I don't have a kinect because the product did not appeal to me as a gamer. It seems more like a casual gamer thing. This is a good use though, instead of giving 360 owners a kb or a 20 button controller.

I mean, I suppose BW could save a lot of development time if they didn't bother showing up to exhibitions to demo their product, didn't work on a demo, or didn't bother creating a cross platform title. Perhaps BW should go back to the xbox and forget about the other platforms? That could save on development time right? Then again.. I don't run a studio, never have developed a title so.. I suppose I won't try giving BW ideas on how to manage or run their studio.

How many people in this thread have actually developed a title though? Does anyone in this thread have actual experience working with kinect as a developer? Anyone know exactly the type of resources it takes to incorporate the voice commands?

Honestly, the only problem I can foresee with using the Kinect is if I am a male player, and I am playing as a FemShep.

So that means that I will always hear my own male voice go through to FemShep. So, I will say "Liara, Singularity" in a Male voice while playing as a FemShep... that is not gonna to jive for me.

Although, there are some potential funny Easter Eggs that could be had...

While using Kinect I would yell out: Liara! Get undressed!
And she would respond back with: Now is not the time!

I did some tweaking with Windows speech recognition macros and got some basic voice commands in Mass Effect 2. I could say things like warp, Miranda warp, next weapon, etc. by binding a phrase, like warp, to a key, like 1 (the hotkey for warp). It's a bit gimmicky but it's also quite fun.

This also proves this can be done in Windows 7 but I doubt BioWare will include it because Microsoft wants this to be a Kinect exclusive.

I wouldn't use the Kinect feature... but it may save a little time by being able to deploy any move in your squad's arsenal without selecting it... that's the only real benefit I see to this.

As far as squad placements and general conversations go... using the D-pad and selecting responses manually grants you a faster and faaar more seamless experience.

I have kinect but probably won't use it though. It's a cool idea I guess though, but I just don't really like kinect much. Kinda regret buying it....

Here's a thought: Don't like a feature? Don't use that feature.

I understand some features are not for everyone (some people will or will not use Kinect, some will or will not choose a romance, some will or will not play different classes, etc). However, I do not understand the seeming NEED for some people to belittle or ridicule the feature that they currently do not have interest in.

Does it make people feel better to nock a feature they do not care about? I personally do not like eating liver, but I do not stand in my local grocery store laughing at people who buy it telling them how stupid they are for enjoying it.

It has to do with the thing that you guys at Bioware always bring up, which is about how resources are limited and so you can't always give everyone everything that they want.  We want better story with more choices.  If resources are going into developing the game for Kinect compatability, that means that the game has fewer resources to improve on other things.  Kinect just isn't the type of hardware that people who have played these games really own, with the exception of maybe a few thousand people at most..  It's something Microsoft is obviously trying to get you to do to increase sales of Kinect, but it just does not belong in this game.  It's going to benefit a small slice of the Xbox gamers, and it does absolutely nothing for the PS3 and PC guys.

This same reason is why a number of people don't want multiplayer as well.  We don't want you wasting time making maps and balancing out how biotics are  gonna work in multiplayer when you should be concentrating on the single player experience.  Hate to break it to you guys, but as a 3rd person shooter alone without being an RPG, this game is an extremely poor man's Gears of War.  It's the RPG parts that make this series my fave of all time and ME2 my top 3 games.

In reality, I think every resource not going into story and dialog should be going into things like area design, side quests, increasing customization, more companion chatter that isn't just misison related, and making sure our decisions carry over from all three games instead of being brushed over.  Great, we can use our hands as controllers, but I want to see that the Collector Base decision and the Rachni decision are actually acknowledged and have gameplay consequences.  We want branching paths with actually different content so that the game really feels different on multiple playthroughs using different Shepards.

Well said sir. As a PC gamer on XP (PC Kinect SDK for WIN7 only), I too would rather see resources and dev time go towards something which would benfit players regardless of which platform they are on, rather than a gimmick which would benefit a small percentage of Xbox players.

So much hate.

Don't like Kinect? Fine, don't buy one. Have one already but still don't like it? Fine, don't use it.

BioWare sold its soul? Ooooookay...

As a video game controller, I pretty much agree that Kinect is a gimmick (like other motion controllers), but complaining so hyperbolically about a feature that is completely optional seems like a waste of everyone's time. It's like complaining about Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 being released in 3D alongside the normal 2D. Don't like 3D? See the 2D. No need to lose your s#it about it.

I would use this feature if I had Kinect.

Not so much for the dialogue options but for the squad commands it seems much better than using the d-pad.

Mind you these things usually never work if you have a Scottish accent so I may end up hurtling my controller at the Kinect.
