Here's a thought: Don't like a feature? Don't use that feature.
I understand some features are not for everyone (some people will or will not use Kinect, some will or will not choose a romance, some will or will not play different classes, etc). However, I do not understand the seeming NEED for some people to belittle or ridicule the feature that they currently do not have interest in.
Does it make people feel better to nock a feature they do not care about? I personally do not like eating liver, but I do not stand in my local grocery store laughing at people who buy it telling them how stupid they are for enjoying it.
What if you were forced to pay for the liver that you arent going to eat, and because of it, less (insert favorite food here) was bought because resources had to used to buy the liver that most people wont eat for the entirety of the meal, but instead lick it a few times and then throw it away when the novelty of the taste wears off?

It's nice to have the option, but I feel like.........we as a species are moving into a different "level". We are more mental, and the Kinect is almost binding us to this physical, high maintenance form of interaction.. Ah, meh, idk. It's difficult to explain.
Yay for Kinect, but it's a stepping stone. It's not that piece of tech that makes me say, "Yes, I've got to have this."

Let's have a moment of silence for our dear friend the liver metaphor, who you just brutally murdered.

However, I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people outside of these forums that will use it if they have one, or even buy it just for ME3. I would imagine they've done the research already and figured there was enough of a market to make implementing this feature worthwhile.

Chris, can you really not understand people that want a greater focus on game elements and mechanics that they ACTUALLY USE?
Can you not really understand that there will be different people who value different elements and mechanics they like. If you can't not really understand that then there is little point to discuss.
Oh, I understand that people value different things (Duh). I also understand that a successful business model focuses on appeasing their target demographic. This just in - Kinect is for casual gamers. Mass Effect is anything but casual. You could try to make the arguement that they're trying to broaden the appeal of the series, but for the FINALE of the series? Get serious.

This feature wouldn't be that stupid if ME had a silent protaganist
Haven't you heard, Godwood... silent protagonists are a dated, archaic mechanic that have no place in future games for BioWare. Y'know... rather than being a mechanic one can simply use or not, and something that makes RPGs more immersive and allows more options and opportunies for roleplaying because the player can attribute any voice they like to the character and it doesn't restrict them. :innocent:

I agree and disagree. I really love that ME has a VP. And I really hate that DA2 has a VP.Terror_K wrote...

I really don't like that DS1 has a SP, because I feel no emotional connection to Isaac Clarke, and yet, when they had him be more vocal in DS2, it was a masterpiece because you could see and hear his emotions, hear when he was frail, hear when he wanted to present himself as more stable to a character who he was trying to help.
So I guess, I agree
I think for more defined roles, VP has a very certain place.

My main point is that neither is bad: they are both mechanics which can be used or not used. I think the concept that a silent protagonist is dated and archaic is a false one. It's ironic that the very reasons BioWare gave for having an SP in the original Dragon Age have now gone completely out the window since DA2 came along and they're now fully going along with the whole "voiced protagonist is the future alwasy, no more silent protagonists because its dated and doesn't work" etc.
Some games suit a voiced protagonist, and some don't. I actually think Mass Effect did because of what it was going for. The Dragon Age series... not so much. Having a voiced protagonist will always eat into the budget and allow for less roleplaying options. That's just a fact. You're never going to see another game like DA:O with so many origin options again I feel unless BioWare does another about-face.
I think one of the biggest detractors of SW:TOR is the voiced protagonist. Especially in an MMO where you're interacting with other players constantly. I want to be my own character's voice in cases like that, and not just have somebody else voicing them. It's especially silly when you have a group of characters all the same gender and class (which I've noticed they never demonstrate in their promotional videos) who all sound and act exactly the same.

glad you followed that up, terror_k.
@ godwood - a voiced protagonist fits the mass effect series perfectly - you only RP within a semi-predefined framework of the shepard character. even so, i don't see how shouting commands at your "kinect" is any different to pressing buttons on a controller (or, indeed m/kb on pc) in terms of end-function.
