Are the Phalanx and the Mattock the better weapons for squadmates?

I typically use the Mattock for squaddies. It seems to hit harder and to me sounds better than most other ARs. I think it is about the same as Vindicator really in power but I don't have numbers to back anything up. I don't really like the Phalanx for most characters due to the slow shot speed, so my squad runs the Carnfex which I never really have them use. They carry it, but always stick with either the Tempest or Locust during actual play.

in terms of effectiveness:
pistols
damage per second: carnifex
- additionally increased survivability because of low mag size -> frequent reloads in cover; when used from a cover position often only fired 1-2 shots and then ducking back into cover position
survivability: phalanx
- if absolutly needed even more survivability as with carnifex, because squadmates only fire 1 shot and then duck back into cover
preferable: carnifex
assault rifles
overall: vindicator
- high damage per second, burst-type weapon -> less time out of cover -> more surviveability
outclassed:
avenger/geth pulse rifle
- already bad weapons in hands of shepard because of the low damage per shot and squadmates can't even utilize their high rate of fire
mattock
- lower squad damage modifier (0.4, the majority of the others has 0.55), squadmates can't abuse the gun's high rate of fire; weapon only useful for proccing ammo powers

Thanks, nice link. Way better than the wikia which has everything spread over umpteen pages.

triggering the secondary effect of ammo powers like freezing enemies, "fire dance" etc. could be a fitting alternative description.
