First off, that is your own opinion and not a fact, and moreover, artistic style and quality of work is a perfectly valid reason to reward someone. 

You are basically denouncing thousands of artists for not agreeing with your philosophy.

And you hear that from someone who sent fan art.

BioWare thought he was the best. Your taste and art critique ain't ultimate truth. Art is subjective and obviously, if they hired him, they must've really liked his work and thought his work was superior. It's was a contest judged by BioWare artists, not LiquidGrape.

I know I can only speak for myself. And speaking for myself, I say the wrong person won that contest.

Actually, you stated that it made no sense for him to be selected, while at the same time you understand that some people recognize a deeper meaning behind his art, or they don't necessarily think that it's the only thing that makes a piece of art good or bad.

There were tons of great submissions and I think they picked right. His detail work is amazing and there's a vibrancy to his work I adore.

What does this have to do with conceptual artwork? At all?

Conceptual artwork is about describing to them a situation, character or location and having them draw original art out of it.

When has given any of those, and why does the fact that he didn't want to do conceptual art on a subject that was never given to him make him a worse concept artist?
