Has anyone focused their party makeup almost exclusively on disorient instead of the usual stagger and Primal tree makeup?
My idea for next playthrough-
Hawke- Rouge archer with the shadow tree for disorienting criticals. Can achieve disorient pretty much anytime. To not make the rogue completely god-like, my second specialization will be duelist (because shadow has become pretty overpowered i'll skip assassin).
Aveline- Will build with S&S tree focus, because of the disorient CCC. I don't think i'll be able to squeeze cleave in, but i might still run might, but dont know. I will probably just run S&S tree with Bravery and upgrade, but don't know if she will have the damage output.
Anders- Will use his special tree, creation, and some primal for the few staggers that ill get with shield bash from Aveline.
Last spot can work with either a rogue archer or Merrill.
If Merrill- The Spirit tree will be the focus. I know Walking bomb can kill your whole party but that's why Aveline will have the resistance and everybody else is a ranged character (i like it dangerous). Sprit Strike and Walking Bomb both get damage bonus from disorient. Don't know about the rest of the Spirit tree, but i believe it does have a pell that is like a silence or something, which may be useful. I'll also use her special tree of course. i've also been thinking of the entropy tree since ive pretty much ignored it through my other playthroughs.
If Varric or Sebastion- I will give the fatiguing fog to set up aveline. Between fatiguing fog disorients and my disorients Aveline will have her hands full. Remeber Anders will have Stonefist for the CCC too. Both Varric and Sebastion can really dish out some dps so no real problems there.
These are just thoughts to give me another playthrough on nightmare that isn't the same ol shiz. I know none of this is optimal but just looking for something fun and challenging.
Disorient CCC instead of stagger?

I'm only on my first nightmare, and only at level 14, so this might not be brilliant insight, but I'm using confusion and fatiguing fog with Varric for disorient, then Merrill has spirit bolt and walking bomb upgraded. Aveline has assault and Hawke has stonefist.
I just combine them with a couple of stagger combos between Hawke and Aveline too, and a brittle with Merrill and Varric.
I feel like I have lots of combo options, but mostly focus on disorient so far (still a few levels to get.)

To tell you the truth you can spec your party so that you can pretty much use both equally, but of course I assume you know that. { I would not restrain my self to only 1 type of warrior} but yea if you wanna go that route for disorients it's totally viable.
Personally I like to use every single companion and I most of the time depending on which class is my main I spec other accordingly and take advantage of staggers and disorients equally. Sometimes you get more staggers so you take advantage of that sometimes you crank in more disorients so use that but with disorients not all the enemies in the area get disoriented.

I always use a mix of CCCs. I never have a heavy emphasis on staggers though. The only good CCCs were chain lightning and haemorrhage- and you can't have a build based on those alone.
My mage had a pretty heavy disorient-based setup though;
pull of the abyss --> fatiguing fog --> walking bomb + scatter/assault = staggers --> haemorrhage = everything dead
Of course this was pre-patch where Aveline wouldn't get blown up. :/
Otherwise I just use disorients for stone-fist and spirit bolt
hmm btw, If you're going duelist are you going to get staggers for vendetta CCCs?

yes yes yes.
Walking bomb is so amazingly OP that if it goes off on a disoriented target, it will one-shot all but the toughest enemies around the bomb. load your tank up with spirit resist, have anders spec into the walking bomb upgrades, and go. The spirit bolt one is good, too.
I use Fenris as my tank almost exclusively now, because of his natural magic resistance and the fact that he kills things way faster than aveline. If you set him up right, he is an amazing tank with great threat generation. I'm not having a problem with Fenris getting blown up by walking bomb.
And since they nerfed 2h warriors to the ground (with respect to stagger, i mean), this is really the best way i've found to make up for that and avoid having Aveline around (ugh, just SICK of her).

Ever since the patch I've had disorientation taking equal footing with stagger. Usually have avaline staggering with pommel strike, CCC with crushing prison and thats it for stagger exploitation. Similarly have pinning shot, and stonefist/spirit bolt. Elites are alot weaker than before, so can take them out easily with these.
If anything the main CCC I ignore is brittle. Winters grasp has too much FF, while petrify doesn't last long enough for me anymore.
