I'm a level 22 blood mage playing on nightmare post 1.03.
I start battle with Rock Armor (10% mana), Blood Magic (70% mana) and Elemental Weapons (10% mana) active.
Partway through every battle, it seems that all my sustains drop.
Anyone know why?
I'm assuming it has to do with "running out" of mana, but that seems odd, since I shouldn't be using any at all.
This is new since acquiring and using Elemental Weapns. I used to run with just Rock Armor and Blood Magic and never experienced this problem.
On Merril, I've noticed I can completely deplete her mana and not have an issue.
Blood Magic sustain keeps dropping

do you have the boots of the void equipped?
armour with the chance to stealth when hit will do that to you.

Where can you get these boots?

If you allow Torpor to merge with Feynriel in Act 2, there is a non-quest encounter in Lowtown where you can fight a small group of dudes and loot the boots.

Thnx. I usually don't make a deal with the demon, that's probably why I don't remember having them. God, I hate that quest. You really get the short end of the stick for doing the right thing.

yeah, it took me a couple playthroughs before I was able to take the deal and a few more to not feel guilty. now i find it funny.
bioware is corrupting me.

lol. Ur a selfish and nasty person, you know that?
You know what I miss? Intimidating and forcing the stupid demon to give you those rewards without enslaving the poor victim. You could do that in Origins when saving Connor, if your PC was a mage with high enough Persuasion. It was one of my favourite options when playing as a mage.

Hahaha yeah, that I am.
I think they were trying to make the story more compelling/dark/depressing by removing the easy way out- because everyone chose them otherwise.
Like the choice of using the circle to save conner. I think the change was sorta good in a way.
I mean, what other game actually picks away at your conscience/morals so hard?
The first time I decided that I would side with the demon I couldn't pull it off- it just felt too wrong.
And by that, they managed to actually make this video game present an ethical dilema. Power or doing what's right?
Now of course I choose power- for that is the path of the darkside

i take anders, isabela, and merrill into the fade for that quest. all 3 of the companions get influenced by demons/spirits in some way so why not hawke as well? that's my justification for taking the knowledge offer anyway....

Well, you didn't always have the choice the bring the Circle to help Connor, and you could only get the extra reward from the demon AND save Connor, if you were a mage.
But yeah, I get what they were trying to do with Night Terrors. I think the biggest problem is that reward from the keeper (tome) is most likeley bugged, so from a gameplay perspective, there is no reason whatsoever not to deal with the demon. Now, if that tome actually gave you some extra points to spend, you would still have the benefit of choice when dealing with the demon and could still be at a slight advantage for doing so (maybe something like +2 attribute points from the tome vs. +6 from the demon). But as it is now, you kinda get punished for helping out the poor sod. Wich kinda sucks tbh, unless ur Hawke is an evil douche. Or you could try to pretend that you couldn't resist the offer and betray Feynriel the same way your squad betrays you lol. That would work too, I guess.
EDIT: Ninja'd.

I don't think the Keeper's reward is bugged... I mean, they've patched the game 3 times now, so they would have corrected this, right? I agree that it's a crap reward though... If you could get even a small bonus for not selling Feynriel to the demon, it would make that choice a lot more appealing.
But... this really has nothing to do with the topic, and I've never encountered this problem so... I'll leave it at that.

I thought it was a great idea. In the Fade, your companions get tempted and betray you. Hawke (ie. YOU) is tested to see whether he can resist temptation or betray Feynriel.

I think I remeber someone saying that it was supposed to be a tome like any other (gives you extra points to spend), but it is apparently bugged. I will open my save file and check the code, next time I finish that mission, to see if there's any truth to that. And I agree, they could have patched that already, if they wanted to, but on the ther hand, it just seems odd that you would get a junk item as a quest reward.
