I wonder why some people seem threatened by Vega? Hmmm.....

If Vega was a big, busty blonde instead, would she meet with such reprisals? ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, UNDENIABLY NOT! These same people complaining would be singing her praises, no matter what kind of personality she had.

To some people, he's obviously a 'competition' to their mSheps. Others think his looks equals his personality. Well, if that was the case, Miranda should be a stupid bimbo with absolutely no depth at all.

Or they don't want to be saddled with the task of babysitting some annoying noob just because Bioware think people who hop into the series with the final game deserve a character tailored specifically for them.

Now that's silly. They aren't mad cause he's a new male that "threatens" them. They're mad cause they want their favorites back. Casey Hudson specifically said there will be less squad mates in ME3 than in ME2 so every space is precious for people that want to see their favorite in the series conclusion. Forcing us to take up one of those spaces with new character that's designed for people that never played ME before can be seen as insulting to previous fans. I don't completely agrre (I think he should be optional) but they have a point.

I fully intend to screw with Bioware's metrics for this Vega character. I'm never going to talk to him, never take him on missions, and never do any personal missions related to him, if there are any. The only way I'll use him is if I'm forced to, and the only time I'll converse with him is if he initiates it. In which case I'll end the conversation as soon as possible. If it's possible to get him killed, I'll do it every time.

Bioware don't really pay attention to what people say on the BSN. They do use metrics to see how people play their games though if you leave the option to send anonymous gameplay statistics back home enabled. So I'll just do my part to rig that data.

It stinks you can't kill companions anytime you want like in real rpgs such as The Elder Scrolls

You could wait for the game to be released before deciding what characters you like or don't like

I played Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2...I had conversations in depth with every squad member and there are some I like and don't care for.

In the third game of a trilogy, introducing a new character that will prohibit another squadmate from being on your team is immersion breaking and there is no emotional weight.

What if Han Solo or Chewy were replaced in Return of the Jedi for someone new? How would that have gone?

You're acting as if we're not going to see the VS at all, and that James Vega is replacing Garrus.

Er, what?

James Vega is replacing Garrus!  What?  :(

:D

Where in that statement did I say Garrus was being replaced?

If some former members are in but not squadmates, but Vega is a squadmate, Vega's presence is occupying a spot a former squadmate could have.

That's pretty simple inferred logic. I'll tone it down a notch. No, better yet, I'm off to talk Skyrim

Here's one of my biggest issue.

Human: 9
Shepard
Ashley
Kaidan
Jack
Jacob
Kasumi
Miranda
Zaeed

And now Vega

Asari: 2 (possible 3)
Liara
Samara
Morith

Krogan: 2
Wrex
Grunt

Quarian: 1
Tali

Turian: 1
Garrus

Salarian: 1
Mordin

Drell: 1
Thane

Geth: 1
Legion

There more human than all species combined! Most of them are plain boring or caricatural.

A Batarian would be nice, or another Quarian, or maybe a Turian? anything but a boring human douche!

I think this is closer to the truth. I understand people want to see their favourite characters back. It was always going to be tricky to manage this with so many able to be killed. The second part however I don't agree with. It is probable IMO, that Vega will be important to the story for new and existing players alike.

I don't see the problem. Mass Effect has always been about humanity's first big steps in the galaxy.

Eh, maybe Bioware should stop catering to fans in general. Seems whenever they try and do something for 'em, there's ******. Seems whenever they don't do something for 'em, there's ******. Ugh, BW can't seem to do anything right in some folks' eyes; perhaps they should just stop making games altogether, then. Oh, wait, bet that'd get ****** as well. *sighs*

I don't think I've ever seen so much whining on a forum in all my years as a lurker/occasional poster (1997-present). I feel like I've travelled back in time to my first year of Kindergarten. Um, it's not really 1985, is it? 'Cos, y' know, it's kind of hard to tell from where I'm sitting.

It's the 21st century, folks. There's this absolutely wonderful thing called "growing up." The disgruntled of the lot might want to try it some time. I hear it does wonders for the skin, too! Yay! Extra bonuses are always nice.

As for my opinion on new characters, I'm all for it. I love new things. I also love old things. I love all things, except ******. ****** makes whittle kitties cry. Can't you people put aside your whining for once in your lives and think about the kittens! They're kittens for fluff's sake. Small, sweet and fuzzy things whose job it is to turn frowns upside down! Oh, never mind.

My point is, new is always good, especially when it's done for those who have been unable to fully experience all that Mass Effect has to offer, like those who own a PS3 and have access to only ME2 and not ME1. Kudos to Bioware for doing so much for their fans. It's a shame so many people can't appreciate the things done for them.

In all my years as a gamer, I've yet to come across another gaming company who really and truly listens to their fans. Wait, what's that? Bioware is listening to their fans? We can't have that now, can we? Alright everyone, let's get our Makos, pitchforks and torches ready. Time to storm Bioware's HQ! By the way, I call shotgun.

[Edit: Maker help my inability to spell check this late in the evening. Also re-worded a sentence or two. Re-read the damn thing 50 times and still find things to change. PERFECTIONISM... I HAS IT, and I hate it.]

LOL! Even if she was a complete moron, it wouldn't have made a difference. Her breathe inhibiting catsuit was the ONLY thing that was important for a good percentage of the people who hate Vega. Not a bit surprising. I also think the "dudebro" argument is also a smokescreen.

Aren't marines SUPPOSED to actually LOOK like they could take down a Krogan, Turian, etc?

He'll be important because Bioware will force him down our throat. I don't see what a regular alliance douchy grunt can do more than a Krogan Battlemaster , a Salarian SGT or an Asari Commando.

Whats wrong with 9 humans and 9 aliens? We are after all drawn to humans naturally as we are humans ourselves. Plus, this is our story. Earth is the one about to get destroyed. Not the Asari planet.

Lets just say for a second that the story requires a reaperised cyborg planted in the alliance by cerberus. How can grunt, mordin or samara fill this role? I'm aware that is farfetched, but the story is most likely going to need characters to fill roles that none of the existing ones can.

I didn't really like ME1 that much so didn't follow the ME2 development but....I do recall an enourmous amount of moaning about the absence of the ME1 squad and the demands that the VS have their own DLC.

And most of the aliens are walking codex entries.

This franchise is about the human perspective on the events. That's just how it was concieved. Perhaps in future it will evolve, but so far the humanity is still a newbie in the Galactic civilization and thus the story focuses heavily on how it adapts and tries to find its place in it. So naturally human characters should be a big part of the story.

I'm guessing a good number of the Vega detractors would prefer Jamie over Miranda...IQ and all that goes with it.

No, there's actually 10 character including one I never had as a teammate, which make it 9

1-Liara
2-Samara
3-Tali
4-Wrex
5-Grunt
6-Mordin
7-Legion
8-Garrus
9-Thane

and 10 (optional by in-game choice): Morith
