Based on the BSN, I'd say it's the fact that hardly anyone ever seems to read it.

Why not have another comic like they did for PS3 people?

Here's why not:

Flying Garrus

Vega already comes off as being worse of a character than Jacob due to that.

Hahaha

Condemning a character without knowing him first... And just because he's not familiar with space politics.

That's a new one.

/sarcasm

I'm really looking forward to a character that says stupid **** like comparing the genophage to the FCW like Shepard did in ME1.

Can someone explain to me how Vega is "for" new players? I'm sorry but I don't get how he is tailored only for new players. He's a new character in the series, just like Samara, Thane, Grunt and Legion were a year ago.

I don't know first nobody knows what exactly getting new players up to speed means or how they'll do it - I really think it's being overdramatized in this thread. The Devs can balance making it open to new players, who there WILL be - and hopefully want to play the previous ones... and not making that annoying to the majority who have played ME1 and ME2 (or at least ME2). I don't think we'll be beat over the head with stuff.

Well, actually Bioware doesn't hate literacy, at least in ME1 and DA:O they didn't. There was a ton of reading in those games.

A comic is another good idea; I hear that's how CDPR is going to introduce console players to TW2's extensive lore.

Both games had effectively reached completion before EA took over.  ME2 and DA2 are more indicative of the new direction Bioware are taking with their games.

Reading is too hard. Bioware hate literacy.

Also, the guy who wrote most of Mass Effect's codex quit the company, so lol.

that's why the codex guy reads the first column for us!  I wouldn't want to fill my weekly reading quote with those three big paragraphs that discuss asari culture :D

Ask Bioware. They're the ones who keep pointing out that Vega is for noobs, as though it's a good thing.

Essentially, James Vega is suppose to be "The Watson" of Mass Effect. That means he'll have the important plot details explained to him to catch any new players up on the plot. Of course, everyone $*%#@ing about this is grasping at straws since Bioware games have always had characters like Watsons and Exposition Characters to explain the plot, so this is nothing new at all. Hell, Jacob and Miranda's memory test at the start of ME2 served the same exact purpose.

In actuallity, the real gripe people have is that Vega looks like a "Gears of War Meathead" type character so they're jumping the gun and bashing him.

I don't see how that stops him from being an interesting character that returning fans will enjoy, but I suppose I should be used to these kind of reactions on BSN.

Thanks for the explaination.

Shouldn't have any real impact since all the info new players will need is in the first two games' codex-pages anyway, and they're allready done!

Also I had this crazy thought about expanding their market. Stick with me now, by getting new players more interested in the third game Bioware can also encourage these new customers to buy the earlier installments. It's not uncommon for earlier installments to recieve a sales boost the same month the sequel is released.

Okay, I for one can see myself liking JV and I have played both ME games (the second one over five times so far). But Seriously, as long as I can have Garrus, Jack, Kaiden, and Liara back I'll be happy.

If people want to get into the series and know whats going on they should play the first two games. You shouldn't waste time and resources on an intro for new players or a character like James Vega. You don't go to a movie sequel and expect to understand it without seeing the first one. Video games should be no different especially ones focused and driven on story.

Thats 100% true actualy.
New characters are essential, and they need an introduction for everyone, (duh), but i think what you are really trying to say, is that you didnt like all of the changes that were made to the sequel, and all of the ones that will be made to the third game as well. When Bioware says that they are making it "Accessible" for newcomers, well...that really doesnt make any sense now does it?...optional tutorials would make sense, but ME doesnt really have those, so what i think they really mean, is that they are ehm'..."Streamlining" it more for the 14 year old Halo and COD fans. I have no idea how they get away with saying that they are "Making it more accessible" when they actualy mean, Dumbed down.

They aren't getting away with anything. Developers are the only ones who believe their own BS about "streamlining."

Look at any game preview in any genre where developers start talking about streamlining, as though it's a good thing. The comments from gamers will almost unanimously be recoiling in disgust, because everyone knows "streamlining" is a euphemism for dumbing **** down to the most base, simple element.

What they're really trying to do here is make the game appeal to the CoD/Gears/Killzone/etc crowd they've been thus unsuccessfully trying to lure. Which is why Vega is a big dumb meathead that looks like Soap McTavish (or whatever his name is) decked out in Gears armor.

There's only one way Bioware are going to rope in the audience they actually want, and be rid of their bothersome former RPG fanbase, but I can't mention it because I promised Javierabegazo that I'd stop harping on that topic.

INDEED!
Well i knew that they were not actualy getting away with it, i meant that you guys, the core fans, were still buying their products after all of this "dumbing down"...so yeah, they are kinda getting away with it.

Ah! you remembered my post about Soap.Image IPB
I know right?
They keep destroying all of the RPG elements and replacing them with really BAD versions of Gears Of War combat mechanics.
An RPG company trying to make the biggest shooter of 2012! They sure don't know how to play to their strengths do they.

Alright, Enough's enough. It's clear people here want to discuss RPG elements. Do so in the existing thread.
